Must have seen a million threads on tipping and not once have I seen a decent argument as to why it still exists.

Why the fuck should you be paying somebody to the a job their employer should be paying them for?

You shouldn't. Unless somebody goes above and beyond.

Tips should never be expected. I'm a taxi driver and I'm grateful for every tip I get even tho I'm making loads of money (season in dubrovnik/kings landing). People usualy tip me when rounding up, for example the ride costed 90, they give a hundred and dont want the change. Other than that I get a tip when I go an extra mile in being chatty and talking about the city/country/whatever.

I've been known to round up or give a couple of quid near Christmas. The rest of the time tipping can fuck right off.

i do it at restaurants the few times i've been there in the netherlands. because i wan't to thank them for the good service, if it was good.

but it's bullsgit IMO, you are already getting payed.

Why should you bother wearing shoes if you don't want to? Why do you shake hands instead of farting? Why would you expect a compelling argument about a social custom.

Why do you put yourself in situations where tipping is customary?

If you're a cheap fuck, that's fine with me. Maybe you can embarrass the people with you instead of ranting on Sup Forums.

I live in a country that pays it's employees for the jobs they do rather than expect the customer to cover the expense.

Why don't you tip a bus driver? They have a far more skilled job than a pizza delivery guy.

There's only two people i tip. They lady who cuts my hair, cause she's hot as fuck, and the pizza delivery dude. Outside of that i do not tip

I'll be in Dubrovnik in 2 weeks. How would I recognize you as the cool taxi driver that you are?

it's pretty simple, better tips better service. i always deliver a known good tipper's food before some rando and i tip well at the bar so i'm not waiting in 10 minute lines. tips are chill

>The lady who cuts my hair, cause she's hot as fuck
Beta cuck

Fuck you, servers don't get paid enough. If you're not leaving a 35% or ideally 40% tip, you might as well be spitting on them.

This is my point. That's no argument for tipping.

Their employer should make enough profit to pay them fairly or he shouldn't be in business.

Simple really.

because the server is a young lad working his first job, or some woman that has made some unfortunate choices and has a child to raise and no husband to bring her a paycheck

it's charity, can't you spare a few coins?

I tipped a tire worker for work past hours (had sidewall failure). Had regret for past excellent service where I had tire rotation/re-balance and *great* tire dressing.

i don't tip waiters are usually rude af and don't even come back to refill tea they could kill them self tbh

The only argument for tipping is that "it pays the server" but the only reason servers have to rely on tipping is because tipping exists in the first place. If we're gonna keep having an attitude of "tip because servers because it pays them" then nothing is ever going to get done about it.

So you're happy for their greedy employer to be raking in the coin whilst you make up for the shortfall?

Can't you see how fucking dumb this is?

Because to tip is powerful. I over-tip like a motherfucker just for the juice.

I'm living in one of the richest country in the world. People do tip here. Because it is a token of appreciation for good service.

People work harder and better if they know it does make it a difference. Why should anyone hurry with your order, if they know at the end of the day they get the same amount of money if they worked relaxed or fast.

It is pretty simple

I live in Austria if you wonder.

gotta normalize bribery somehow

>tipping is now for your petty pride instead of thanking the employee for a good job
Because people arent as shallow as you. You dont need to not tip to embarrass the people around you

Here in Ohio the minimum wage for tipped employees is half the normal minimum wage, which means servers/waiters only make a shitty $4.05 an hour, it's nowhere near enough to live on. The federal minimum wage for tipped employees in America is $2.13 which is actually ridiculous. Basically they need tips just to make as much money as other minimum wage workers. Kind of a fucked up system.

Doing the job you're paid for is enough incentive for most people.

Tipping to keep their wheels turning is fucked up.

What's the difference between a Navajo Indian and a canoe?
A Canoe will still tip.

found the fucking liberal.... fucking retard

I agree with this point.

So why don't restaurant owners pay them a decent wage?

Again, not a single decent argument for why servers are meant to rely on people's tips.

>Because to tip is powerful. I over-tip like a motherfucker just for the juice.
I want to tip like in Dumb & Dumber, coming out of a Lambo Diablo

You're pretty dumb you know that? Tips or no tips The Employee is still getting the full minimum wage. That's why they have to declare the amount they receive by the end of the night. So if the tips they made doesn't equal to the state minimum wage the employer has to cover the rest. So if the minimum wage is $10 but yoou only receive 8.25 with the smaller wage+tips then the employer has to cover the rest. Look it up.

Oldbastard here.
I visited Dubrovnik in 1989 when it was Yugoslavia. Great place and fantastic locals and no American people because they couldn't get a visa because ex soviet bloc. Dubrovnik was a gem in a very poor and repressed country.

Sure, that's why almost every high paying jobs has one or more bonusses to aquire.

Austria has one of the highest quality
gastronomy in the world. And we have a tipping culture. I don't think that is a coincidence.

Samefag here. And I certainly tipped there and they did not expect it.
Generally I tip a small amount and it's well received because I don't live in a shit country that pays serving staff an illegally low wage.

women and children will work for meager pay whether or not customers tip

I can spare a couple coins to someone that is actually willing to work to better herself

I stated that i live in one of richest countries in the world. It just a cultural things, if your service is good you should be rewarded.

I'm with OP, fuck making up some retards wage because they work for some cheap bastard that's exploiting them.

Dogshit.

Why don't bus drivers or Mcdonald's staff get tips then?

It's a fucking con. Restaurant/Hotel owners must be rubbing their fucking hands laughing and this manufactured tipping culture.

>not tipping the bus driver
fucking cheapskate

Tipping creates unfair pressure across the entire board.

I go to restaurants sometimes, but with friends who ALWAYS tip no matter what. It makes the dining event end badly because I wont tip for mediocre service. My friend tipped 20% for the waiter replacing his raw fish with a cooked one. The basic standard should have been "don't serve uncooked food", but I don't understand why bringing you what you ordered warrants a bonus.

I can afford the food and service charge no problem, but on pure principle I will not tip automatically, and on the rare occassions I do tip, it's got to be so far above and beyond. I don't feel comfortable going out to eat with those friends anymore, and certain others out there also feel like this. This means businesses lose money by failing to take ownership of this tipping issue. A service charge should cover everything.

The onus for good or exemplary service should be on the business owner, not the patrons. Customers shouldn't have to be socially pressured into ensuring they have a decent dining experience. Otherwise why go out to eat at all? The business owners make profits based on good service, so they should be responsible for maintaining it.

TLDR: Tipping needs to be outlawed.

>Why the fuck should you be paying somebody to the a job their employer should be paying them for?
You shouldn't be, but the jobs that have social norms of tipping attached to generally have ridiculously underpaid workers, which is why you tip waiters/waitresses who'd have to choose between paying their bills and eating food without their tips. In fact, in all the waitering jobs I've worked my bosses justified paying us under minimum wage because we'd get tips. So if we didn't get tipped, we'd be making shit.

inb4 "just get a better job". If you think that you're either born into privilege or a literal child

This is my paypal, would you like to tip me for reading the whole thread?

[email protected]

This proves no body will do it because its my job to read the whole thread in the first place

Depends on the country, Gaijins tend to tip us all the time and we dont accept the money
