The objects all blend badly if you remove the color (even more so in quick speed action, it makes the objects unrelatable to each other), it's not a noir film or schindler's list or some shit like that.

It was filmed in two dramatically contrasting colors. B&W are both contrasting colors so this is an easier transfer than most films. Miller goes into detail about it in a few interviews you could easily google.

Just remove the colors yourself and see how the sky and the desert have a sameness without the original contrast.

it's an action movie thought of with color at first (even how they shoot fight scenes is thinking in terms of quickly indentifiable objects in the center of the frame because it'd be fast and quickly cut, the main action for instance in the Theron-Hardy fight is always centered)

Not long after it came out Miller said that it looked better in black and white and was the definitive way to see the film. I imagine they made a version during post production just to see how it looked and now they're just taking advantage of it.

yeah, they spoke about that, how the wrench hitting the car door is centered so the next shot is hardy pulling it also centered and so on
I don't know about you but this looks perfectly fine and it's just some doing doing a quick color correction. Miller's version is definitely going to look even better than this.

i don't like the supercontrast orange-blue but it's way better than that, it looks dreadful - look at the reveal of the height max is when he opens the door. zero impact.
some of the car shots (the one where the guy is shooting the flame thrower) is like dark grey objects flying in a white canvas without separation of sky and ground
the explosions feel completetly meaningless, the desert storm is no different from other moments etc

I heard Miller originally intended that it'd be only the soundtrack and a black screen
