If you're using windows, you're a double nigger. There is a limit on the amount of simultaneous TCP connections a windows box can make (think it's 135). There is no limit like this on Linux.

It IS possible to simulate a botnet from one machine. You route the connections through lots of different proxies. And you don't go for hammering them with data, you go with leaving connections open/hanging. Then you can actually DDoS them with minimal resources.

Look up torshammer.

Oh, you'll need to install Linux to use it.

I imagine even that wouldn't do shit to buzzfeed though, they have beefy servers.

I've taken down sites that way when I couldn't fill the pipe with bandwidth. Overload the database and the site can't serve any pages, despite how fat their pipe is.

Now there are many ways to go about this but it requires compartmentalization; lone wolfs acting independently of the general raid for maximum collateral, so I won't talk about it any more on the board.This is more boring and requires a lot more nuance than what it'll be for everyone else, but you might find it rewarding.
