Internet boom and the last decade where PC bullshit wasn't around. Plus all the crazy and memorable stuff that came out of it. Plus the economy was decent.

Clinton Presidency.

Pre-9/11.

SOMEBODY

it wasnt great, some are just nostalgic for it. the internet sucked then

90s kids are the last good generation because they know they life before internet/social media/smart tech

>you will never play pokemon yellow again

You know how I can tell you were not old enough to actually remember the 90's? You think PC bullshit wasn't a thing.

>NAFTA
>Bill Clinton
>race riots
90's sucked dick outside of pop culture.

Internet boom and it was the (relatively) peaceful time after the cold war and before 9/11

...

It was great period to be growing up
After 2008 world went nuts

All this shoshial media is triggering me, no fun allowed

China was still far weaker economy, Russia was on her knees run by a drunk retard and everyone else was kissing your ass because you were without any rivals. This the myth of the golden age.

ONCE TOLD ME

The thing is though is that SJW's were seen as a joke even by leftists.

Everything pre-9/11 was pretty decent.

It wasn't as much of a thing. Gays were openly mocked in popular culture--even on shows like SNL.

>asians shooting niggers from the rooftops
>not great

Because the average age of posters here are probably in their late 20s and that's the decade of their fun childhood memories

This. I remember even here, the show This hour has 22 minutes, making fun of them with a skit called Gays of our lives, poking fun at Day of Our Lives. Also Madtv

You could never produce anything like this now

There were still people who wanted to make America great again.

This is true. Let me break it all down for you guys who are too young to remember, or ever experience what this was like. I'll give a few prime example of why the 90's was great for me personally, even though you may not understand it.

>Cell phones existed but were not common at all. If you went out people would call your house, and leave a message on your answering machine. If no answering machine maybe someone would pick up or you would have caller ID. If NOT then that was it. No expectations of constant communication.
>Our cartoons treated kids like young adults, not bubble wrapped children. If you don't believe me watch the 90's Batman cartoon series, or TMNT. Constant dark themes, and jokes that would not be allowed today. As well the stories treated kids like adults, and were more well written/acted/interested.
>Everyone wasn't scared of their neighbors, because they actually knew them. This meant on Halloween you wouldn't get 10-20 kids, you would get 80-100. Keep in mind the city I grew up in was not large.
>Video games existed, and were more of a form of creativity and storytelling then pandering for sales. PC bullshit had no infiltrated vidya to the same extent, and freedom of expression reigned.
>Women were publicly and actively slut shamed. If you were a girl when I went to high school, and you wore booty shorts, you would get ripped on hard. Both boys and girls would participate as well. This meant girls, though still slutty, were slightly more wholesome than the ones today.
>The Simpsons was still funny. Any true 90's kid will know what I mean by this.

I could carry on, but these were some of the first things that came to my mind.

t. faggot born in 95 or later

90s life style
>get cool car
>get money
>get cool TV and cool game console
>pc wow can watch movies listen to music and create stuff
>hang out with friends, talk about cool TV programs, real life stuff etc

Now
>brag on fb about your car
>broadcast your games to yt
>online everything
>tweet share like comment

Don't forget Smithers from the early Simpsons days.

>"Hello Smithers... you are good... at turning... me on"

>tfw born in 95, recognize I'm not a 90s kid but still accept the 90s were better in everyway to the present

Thanks user

In the 90s WWF was the embodiment of the time: no PC culture, could say whatever you wanted to people without them taking offense, all jokes were on the table, people weren't afraid to get rough with each other, capitalism and success was applauded, women were able to have bra and panty matches without feminists getting in uproar over how sexist it was, men were taught to be actual men instead of pussys... I could go on.

It was truly the last time I felt good about the world.

Post-cold war
Pre-clash of cultures (Islam plus internet accelerating cultural divides within the West)

Limitless optimism, nobody could hold you down, fraternity and friendship seemed inevitable.

It's a hell of a lot better than the shithole it is now

Because the generation of children that grew up during this time and are now adults and are actively pandering and pushing their nostalgia with an overly rose-tinted view of the period in hindsight despite all the terrible shit that happened.

Also, it helps that there were major societal and technological shifts thanks to computers/internet to support this view.

In about 5 more years the 00/10 kids will start their nostalgia-whoring of their childhoods on society once they enter adulthood and leverage their influence: youtube.com/watch?v=l5WP5tzDGy0

Early 2000 were still like 90s to some point

>muh nostalgia

Or you know some time periods are better than others. Fact is back then radical feminism was viewed as craziness, Islam was not in the west as much as it is now, race relations were starting to simmer and blacks were on a good track, the school system still had a backbone, liberalism wasn't all about cratering to non-whites, etc. I would trade our internet for all the good the 90's had in a second.

This guy gets it.

Also things were fucking cheap.

>$10 gas in truck
>$10 food and beer
>$10 for 500 rounds of .22 ammo

My weekend was set.

I lived in a CCR song, and I miss it.

Dude that was born in the early-mid 90s detected. The world was objectively better before 9/11. There was a time when Americans were proud to be Americans and most of the world (even the Muslim world) liked us. Bush and Obama fucked all of that up.

I dont think so. I see the younger generation via my brother and they are all miserable walking on egg shells 24/7.

I get the nostalgia thing you are trying to play but there are some things were objectively better in the past

Wow, shut the Fuck up you retarded gen x Faggot. Go listen to Alice in Chains or sound garden and slit your wrists.

>ace relations were starting to simmer and blacks were on a good track,

You talking the same decade nigs raped LA, started the thug culture, and celebrated a murderer getting acquitted?

Also for all of you kids too young to remember him, Patrick Fucking Buchanan. To anyone who has not watched this speech, stop whatever you are doing and take it all in. American conservatism at its finest.

He is Sup Forums's grandfather. And just like most grandfathers, most of you won't appreciate how cool this guy is until you are too old, and he is gone.

>Culture War Speech
youtube.com/watch?v=e-taxWx-0Ag

hahah yes

youtube.com/watch?v=q7jOzQC3XOw

This. The great thing is we have those great simpsons immortalized on dvd and those vidya on cartridges that will last a lifetime, not to mention the consoles

Don't forget the fact that every 90's male has about 9-10 seasons of Simpsons quotes on reserve at any time.

>not having a gameboy and gen1 pokemon

No. I quote Frasier. I never watched fucking degenerate cartoons.

>pic related

It was as great as any other decade without war from a kid's perspective, and since millenials are the ones who use the internet for this kind of shit it seems it's all about the 90s

Pokemon wasn't really a 90s thing, given how late it was. Hell, I'd argue that it largely kicked off the 00s as far as children's entertainment went.

>I believe "shaved" is the expression

I dont care about the kikery in this movie it was fucking great. The new ones/spinoffs are hardcore pornos in comparison which just shows how degenerate internet porn made young people compared to our generation

Yes. Plus so many moments in life to this day, and I can always related to a scene and have the script memorized

youtube.com/watch?v=5pa6SGYWADU

Almost all the 90s nostalgia faggotry comes from people who were kids at the time. No one who's 80 says "man, the 90s was the best decade".

Eventually, the 90s kids will fade away as society's main 20-somethings, and we'll hear about how great the 00s were throughout the Internet.

We had the Gulf War and Bosnia during the 90s, though. Our military used to know to get shit done.

People were alot friendlier, I did remember loving pokemon and my gbc but most of my time was spent riding around my bike in the neighborhood looking for whatever mischief me and my friends could get into. The whole social media, internet, cell phones and shit really fucked with peoples values. Technology was advanced enough to make life comfy now its just self absorbed normie shit and our current population is braindead

The early 00's were pretty great though.

Or maybe it is simply because humanity degrades year after year, people after WW3 will say "shit it was fucked up" and will cherish their current year

It was the worst, but why?

No one claims that the 90s were the best decade, but try asking your dad if the 90s were better than anything since and see what he says. Everything has been on a decline post 9/11 from a cultural and economic standpoint.

Not here. 9/11 and nigger rap was the new IT "music"

The problem is that people always think progress=good by default.

Just because i can carry a pocket computer that has the ability to go online nearly everywhere making me 24/7 available doesnt mean that i should

Reminder that it could've continued if Greenspan wasnt such a fucking bitch

Try mid-eighties.

Remember Kosovo? The first gulf war and all the bullshit with Iraq/Iran/the Saudis that followed up until 9/11? Good ol' Somolia? OKC/WTC Bombings? How about all the shit that was happening in South America? Remember that time we supported the civil war in Afghanistan? What about all those Islamic terrorists named "Al Qaeda" that popped up in Yemen that we're still fighting off?

What a great time to be alive full of optimism because I was a still a child ignorant to all the horrible shit happening around the world and in my own country! Gameboys and slap bracelets really bring me back to the time where I was happy. The 80s and 90s were a great time for consumerism, but that's about it.

The "Black Hole Sun" music video is a visual masterpiece and you know it. Also, I'm fairly optimistic about the future-- I just don't see the point in raising my childhood on a pedestal and revering it as some fucking golden age of optimism and culture.

I remember all of that shit and I'm slightly older than you. Americans were still proud to be American and we weren't brought up to believe that we were a constant force of evil in the world like we are now.

you are probably a few years older than me, but I remember enjoying my playstation and prior my cousin's snes. everyone had tamagotchi's in class and meeting with neighbour kids to play pokemon outside was cool, also

>roaming the woods and "killing" stinging nettle
>super soaker battles in the whole streets' front yards
>upgrading PC from 66Mhz to 166Mhz was a big thing and all just to play Lego Creators

I am successful now, but remembering old times makes me wish to end it all

I'm a 2000s kid and it was a god awful decade

Because it was THE shittiest decade for Russia

...

PC bullshit was totally in full force in the 90s. Same thing with institutional anti-male policies and treatment in schools.

More murders occurred

You couldn't walk around like an idiot and act a fool as almost everyone does now

People talk big nowadays with no action, people acted scarily back then without many words

Yep. People can blame whoever they want, but it's truly astonishing how much the world changed.

>Women were publicly and actively slut shamed. If you were a girl when I went to high school, and you wore booty shorts, you would get ripped on hard. Both boys and girls would participate as well. This meant girls, though still slutty, were slightly more wholesome than the ones today.

Did it really matter that much?

Murders and the threat of violence are necessary to maintain order sometimes. People need to learn that the stove is hot

I stopped counting at a dozen, feels bad to be a degenerate honestly. I would take back most of it if I could.

It was present but was recognized as a toxic tendency rather than the current unquestioning acceptance. There was also more satire and less sheeplike following. If you watch old Kids In The Halls sketches, they try to introduce gay propaganda, but they have no illusions about being unquestionable saviours, and frequently mock gays.

You got more raunchy jokes because PC bullshit had a stranglehold on violence during 90s. The Ninja Turtles weren't allowed to use their weapons in any meaningful capacity and the Spider-man cartoon of the time was CONSTANTLY getting hammered by strict censorship. Compare that to what we've gotten in recent years out of the same franchises.
>muh Batman
That was an outlier. By the same merit, the Clone Wars cartoon from a few years ago got away with fucking everything, but nobody takes that as an average indicator of the decade as a whole.

One weird thing I remember about the 90's was how filthy places were compared to today. I remember going into a Burger King anywhere and shit was like Burger Shot from GTA San Andreas with napkins and newspapers all over the floor.

On the other hand, creativity was encouraged. I remember drawing a fuck ton on paper as a kid and teachers telling me to stop drawing and get back to work all the time, but then said I have a gift. I remember they eventually gave in and let people draw during reading time, but only on Friday because everyone wanted to draw so much. Also, games encouraged thinking. Sim City was one of the most popular simulators, and in fact in those book catalogues at school.

Dude, where is your holographic 8-ball slammer?!

What about Toonami with constant Gundam battles? That show was on at 5:30pm every evening. Eventually every TV show had some sort of fighting involved. Even Scooby Doo tried to put it in due to lack of ideas.

self interest man is a cool guy eh lets markets decide things and doesn't afraid of anything

It was a facade.

>Gundam
You mean that show that started airing in the states in 2000? The 2000s were when they started easing up on censorship.

The Internet before, SJWs, Autistics, Marxists, 3rd worlders, etc.

Only decent folk.

>WCW Nitro and WWF made it socially acceptable to be a wrestling fan
>Carmack and Romero made it socially acceptable to be a vidya geek

My sister had one of those annoying tamagotchi's. It used to cry all night. Eventually I think I flushed it down the toilet or threw it out of a window.

>tfw kids don't play outside anymore.

They'll never know the feeling of a full-street water war. They probably don't even have street-street rivalries these days. At least not ones that don't involve people getting shot.

it wasn't "great," but we were still innocent and naive (9/11). the cold war was over, the US emerged on top, exchange rates everywhere favored the dollar (travel/expenses cheap), prices were still relatively cheap for goods and food, even minimum wage jobs weren't so bad because inflation wasn't as bad as it is today. another thing, in the morning you could easily quit a shitty, high schooler, part-time job, and by sunset you'd find another shitty, high schooler, part-time job. (like if i moved to a new city, i would go through about 5 jobs in 2 weeks until i found the "right fit.")

I guess the difference is in the themes. Also I will be honest, I can't stand CG at all. Based on that alone I don't think I will ever be able to give Clone War a chance. I'll trust you on it, but I still will have my reservations.

The Spider-man cartoon of the time was also great. Think about the relationship he had in that one with Mary Jane compared to the forced bullshit in any of their modern adaptations. Don't forget that all of the characters were their traditional roles, not their "diverse" modern ones.

>90s kids are the last good generation because they know they life before internet/social media/smart tech

Question for oldfriends: if I was born in 95, do you consider me a le 90s kid or a disgusting filthy rotten repulsive participation trophy total drama island Minecraft iCarly selfie 00s piece of trash? I mean, I remember a lot of stuff that "only" 90s kids would remember still being around from 2000-2006.

I've heard people say the 00s were "the last fun decade to be a teen in". I mean, even though I was mostly a teen in 2010-2012, I was also technically a "teen" in 2008-09...that still counts as pre-widespread social media, right? I know Facebook was invented in 2004, but it didn't really get popular until 2011; 2005 to 2010 was the "Myspace era".

I just barely, narrowly dodged a bullet...... right?

That show came out in the late 90's where I live.

Because almost no one had the internet.

because this album was on the radio

pokemon came out in 95 plebbit

DREAMCAST

ever thought about how difficult it'll be to raise a son properly in modern times? Best would be to leave society and watch from afar until he is ready I guess

If you weren't at least in highschool on 9-11, sorry. You may have memories from the 90's but very few experiences. Definitely no life-molding experiences (considering would would have been 1-5).

You're not a 90's kid, but close.

90's WWF was fucking awesome!

It was great to be white in the 90s. Now you got white kids trying to act black.

Remember all the gangtsa rap that openly called for violence against whites? The Long Island train massacre? Al Sharpton stirring up shit at every turn? Tawana Brawley? Out of control dindu violence in major cities?

Good fucking times.

Yeah, that's a bunch of bullshit.

Gen X'ers were the outspoken self-hating scum of America back then, just like the SJWs are today. We haven't been a 'proud nation' in the sense we blindly supported our government since before the Vietnam war-- and a lot of that was because common people finally had the sense to call bullshit on the government for taking advantage of people's pride and patriotism. Just because we don't regard the state as an ultimate force for good doesn't mean Americans don't see fellow Americans as good, proud people, though.

You only contribute to the problems we've seen in the fallout by perpetuating this lie and pandering to long-gone eras, even though you wish to return to that sense of community and belonging you felt back then. If you want that back, then you can start by not living in the past and trying to see the good in your fellow man.
