Beauty and the Beast. The death scene at the end still scares the Hell out of me.

Jacob's Ladder

A few I like

Southbound
Get Out
The Thing (John Carpenter version)
Don't Breathe (there's a twist about two thirds of the way through that adds a lot to the movie)
Event Horizon
VHS one and two
Grave Encounters
Last Shift
Let Us Prey
The Good Neighbor (not pure horror, but very good and kind of horror)
The Exorcist (honorable mention for Exorcist 3, the scene in the hospital hallway made jump out of my seat as a kid)
Monster
Monsters

Any horror movie from the 70s or 80s.

No political message.
No attempt at social relevancy.
Always a gratuitous titty shot.

The Final Girl pokes fun at all the horror movie tropes, it's not scary but a lot of fun for horror movie fans

Piranha 3D has fun with that 70s and 80s horror movie greatness. When the piranhas attack the beach, there is a college girl standing safely on the pier. Her top flies off, for not reason, and she falls into the water to be killed. that's what people watch that kind of horror movie for, it's fun that they don't even pretend to be serious about anything else

Braindead (Dead Alive).

Best cheesy gore film ever.
Best cheesy gore zombie film ever.
Best gore scene ever.
Peter Jackson's hidden masterpiece.

good movie overall

How can a movie effectively be horrorfying if it isn't socially relevant?

Honestly, Martyrs has a god-tier first half, but only a really great second half.

>How can a movie effectively be horrorfying if it isn't socially relevant?
"Social relevance" as in immediate commentary on current social issues.

Squirm, eg. Small town taken over by killer worms and hottie redhead gets nude scenes.

No political agenda, no comment on society or morals. Just fucking killer worms and naked redhead. Perfection.

As someone who was born 96. Any horror movie I see from the 70s or 80s is just laughable.

if you haven't seen this, go watch it

>Any horror movie I see from the 70s or 80s is just laughable.

Yeah, but you never had the opportunity to take a date to a Drive-in for a horror movie triple feature on a friday night.

Drive-ins, campy horror, and blowjobs.

Things kids will never experience again...

Only good for a one time watch. Went back and watched it again recently. Due to the shock of things going on I didn't realize how slow and nonsensical that movie actually is. Still appreciate it though.

À l'intérieur is another good gory french film.

What is happening.

double doubles of truth

The French original was bloody horrific.
I can't even imagine what the Japanese one would be like.

I Saw the Devil
The Pact

in the mouth of madness
jacobs ladder
the woman
pretty molly
also, the evil dead reboot wasnt bad

while im thinking about it, there a french movie from the early 2000s thats about a guy w a power saw killing people in the woods.. anyone know what im talking about? remember the name maybe?

Martyrs is so fucking good, definitely in my top ten favorite films ever.
