what genre is this?

Most synths actually don't consume very much power.

clyp.it/1mskih3a

I bought a pretty nice sample pack today for 20 bucks. Wanted to try it out and ended up with this. It'll probably end up on my scrap heap because I suck at arranging songs.

drunk hardstyle

Changing the op to not addressing clyp.it and SoundCloud at the top is going to make more first time posters miss it and get confused at the hostility. Gj faggot

I have the chance to buy a small Akai soon. Would you suggest the MAX25 or the MPK25? I'm leaning toward the MPK25 at the moment, mostly because of muh knobs in addition to the pads and other features.

Shut the fuck up

woah, the art of mixing is amazing

>drunk hardstyle

Hi, representing the harder styles for a second.
This isnt ours either
Google: jumpstyle

How do i make my growls sound squelchy like in this song but without taking away all its other growl characteristics?
youtu.be/yJHRi4X4vUA

I don't know whether this should go here or not, but it's vaguely related so fuck it. I bought a keyboard/controller a while ago but haven't done anything with it. Are there any resources you guys could suggest when it comes to learning how to play? In terms of theory and generally anything else. Something similar to JustinGuitar but for keyboard/piano.

Also I was wondering what a good interface/program would be, just to hear myself play, instead of using a DAW since I'm not looking to record, just hear myself and maybe have a visual aid when it comes to the notes, etc.

Thanks guys.

clyp.it/22pzt0aa
I don't usually post here but I decided pretty much on a whim to try remixing pic related, despite having nothing apart from audacity and no production knowledge whatsoever, and came out with this in about 2 and a half hours. I'm assuming it's terrible but I figured I'd post it anyway.

trying to make something with the same flavour as this youtube.com/watch?v=mvzJlMS1EhE

clyp.it/1u5i0jcx
this is what i got so far, what do I need to add to give this some more feeling ?

Look up some nursery rhymes and then start learning basic theory.

id get something that can work without a computer as well, just buying a controller is stupid.

so where is the original song?

read musictheory.net --> watch micheal new on youtube --> read jazz theory books

>clyp.it/22pzt0aa
listen to DJ Harvey for inspiration. It's like what he done with his disco edits.
They were also "just" cut ups from other songs.

what is the haas effect best used for?
leads, pads, hi hats?

i've got a noticable void in my mix and i'm trying to fill it up, but nothing seems to be the right piece of the puzzle
i've got my reverb just the way i want it too

Do you know anything like that that's within the same price range? I'm a bit strapped for cash and I was really only planning on using the keyboard as a controller/something to play VSTs and whatnot with, I don't see myself needing to play with a controller-type keyboard without a computer.

If I wanted to produce music as a hobby, would it be worth it to just buy the $100 level FL Studio or would you recommend going up to the $200 one instead?

Pirate the complete one.
When you're first starting out you don't want to find yourself quitting a tutorial because the guy started using a part of the DAW that you don't have.

I was attempted, but I don't really know where else to pirate it save for TPB. But last time I pirated from TPB, my computer got turned into a bitcoin miner.

Download it from one of these two:
audioz.download/software/win/132033-download_image-line-fl-studio-producer-edition-v125059-incl-patch-and-keygen-r2r.html

fresh-stuff4u.com/image-line-fl-studio-producer-edition-v12-5-0-59-plugins/

They use filehosting services so the download will be slower than with torrents, but they're trustworthy websites (as long as you have an adblocker kek) so you're sure you won't get infected.

Gotcha, thank you my dude. I appreciate it.

NP

So Roland announces two new boutiques today and Behringer posts a photo of a modified sh101 clone. Interesting times ahead.

Those rolands look so fuckin kawaii, and also functional as hell.

>functional as hell
>controls so small that a mouse is a better controller
???

Any tutorials in specific I should look at? I got it all installed my dude.

I haven't watched FL tutorials since 2013, but I know Seamless is seen as the "gold standard" of FL Studio tutorials.
He goes pretty advanced sometimes, but on his beginner videos he probably only teaches simple stuff.

This should be the one:
youtube.com/watch?v=IqZkULNCbPM

nigger you done used the picture i uploaded like 3 or 4 threads ago.

the knobs on the tr-08 seem pretty reasonably sized I think. I guess there is only one way to know... and I probably never will D:

So is the op-1 just a meme item or am i getting trolled? I like the ability of sampling radio stations and the tape sequencer thingy is nice too. What else would you recommend for that kind of money

I would get it if I had the money, but you will catch some hate from people here. Obviously it has it's limitations, but the workflow looks fantastic imo. There really isn't much else like it, except maybe the critter and guitari organelle.

At the price point though, you may actually consider picking from the roland boutique series, if you're set on spending money on hardware.

I think it should be used more as a "fun" thing rather than a "useful" one, since everything you can make with it, you can do with much more control on a DAW.
If you have the money to spend on something "nice" then I'm sure the OP-1 is great, but if you're looking for something to improve your songs, then there are far better uses for that money.

latest abortion
>tfw haven't made anything good in months

So, /prod/, any new cool technique you've been experimenting with lately?

Today I took some chords and sidechained different parts of it to three different sources that repeat at different rates, and added LFOs to a few parameters.
The result is a sound that "filters" polyrhythmically and constantly changes.
Here it is:
clyp.it/zqrk2ayr
The 1st two 8-bar loops have the effect on, the third fades it out, and the fourth is dry.

What do you guys think?
Would you use it in a song?

discord.gg/2wGmKjD

Look into Phil Spector's wall of sound.
Essentially you can use samples of two or more instruments (a guitar and a piano for example) and synchronise them perfectly to create an entirely different instrument.
Brian Wilson mentioned this technique and how he implemented it in Pet Sounds in his 1976 interview.

Is this what's now commonly known as layering or is it something completely different?
Because similar techniques have been used everywhere in modern electronic music, if I'm understanding correctly.

I'll check it out now, thank you.

whats funny about this shit is that this is basically something that orchestrators had been doing since forever

how fucking sad is it that people think phil invented something like that

>two discords
end this.

I've rotated the midi of the sources so each part is now sidechained to a different one, and hardpanned the whole thing left, when imported the old version and hardpanned it right.
This is what came out:
clyp.it/mvwczpq3

clyp.it/moylag22

Can someone point me to a good online tutorial on equalizing? Thanx!

clyp.it/hnf0qqqe

ok /prod, I've added more layers and jangly stuff. What do you think of the (((textures)))? I didn't bother to add noise sweeps and risers, but maybe I should... also, tfw you can't be bothered to label things anymore.

I go for long periods away too :( Its tough to get back into it. I like those arps though!

Personally, I think its good to get a solid workflow down. Load up instruments/ make sounds, then come back later and try to make something creative with them. Thats what I've been trying lately anyway.

Wasn't that done with tape machines? iirc that lended to the trippyness of the final product.

pretty cool gating. I think I would use that more in the background of a track for padding.

I have a Scarlett focusrite audio interface I use to D.I. my guitar, but the tones I get from it never sound that good. Could it be I need guitar plugins or is my interface just cheap?

its really just cutting frequencies that conflict to avoid clashing with other sounds

He popularised it.
There's a difference in pioneering and perfecting.
Besides, his methods of doing so were entirely different.

sounds pretty good, any specific feedback you're looking for?

Thank you,
It feels a little repetitive. Any ways I can switch it up? Tried alternating percussive cycles.
I intend to eventually do authentic drums, but they're a bitch to do, so it is what it is for now.

Looking for a workstation or something similar that has good acoustic piano sounds built in.

I'd like to have access to pad synth sounds as well since I think the Minilogue misses some of the marks for pads I'm interested in generating.

clyp.it/44ixj4jx
so ive got this loop here but im not sure where to go with it at this point

>clyp.it/44ixj4jx
Reminds me of SOPHIE.

yeah because of the bass being stereo and the sort of foley/textural noises i guess

yeah the way he fills his stereo field is actually pretty sick

>pretty cool gating
They're not gates. Just compressors.

The effect also has a macro knob that inverts the effect.
Here's an example:
clyp.it/2rj12ou3
1st 8-bar loop is the normal effect, the second changes to its inverse version, the third one is the inverted one, and the fourth one fades the whole thing out.

I don't think it sounds very good in this case, but it could be useful somewhere else.

Yea i mean i got that figured but some actual help on finding those frequencies would be much appreciated

Rap over it

Or play some trumpet over it

sweep a notch or peak until you find it

what i like to do is go to a sound and filter out the prominent frequencies then i take that filter and move it to the conflicting sound

another rule of thumb is to always remove frequencies you dont really need, for example the "highpass out low/sub frequencies on all your sounds except the dedicated sub and kick tracks" rule

www.soundgym.co has a "game" that can help you learn to find it by ear but it limits what games you can try you with a paywall. i like it but not really enough to pay for it yet

>what is the haas effect best used for?
widening a thing. i pretty much never use it.

i've got a noticable void in my mix and i'm trying to fill it up, but nothing seems to be the right piece of the puzzle

desu it's probably just your song/arrangement- if you feel the need to rely on widening one little thing you've got a bigger problem to address

why is your daw window so tiny?

People might be browsing on phones so there's no point in letting them scroll around to see the whole image when everything relevant can fit into a smaller one.

i figured most people would be at their DAW cruising this place between renders.

Ehh, you never know.
Still, no disadvantage to making small screenshots when big ones aren't required.

Thanks a bunch!

my drums don't hit hard enough

why the fuck are they so quiet and tame?

Redpill me on the audient id14

Did you try layering them?

post clyp

layering them how?

just play two of the same sample at the same time?

It's hard to say without an example of what should be improved, but generally you should layer them, EQ them (individual layers and overall) to remove useless frequencies and boost the important ones, and most importantly, use compressors and/or transient shapers to make the attack stronger.

Also the sidechaining of the other tracks, and if you have bad mixing you can end up having them sound weaker.

I won't deny that he introduced the technique to the recording world in regards to production-only techniques. However all he did was make doublings and monophonic textures with the use of overdubbing so as to not have them play together.

Not him, but I think he means taking a sound that's strong in the low end and layer it with a sound that's strong in the mids/highs (depending on the type of drum and the result you want) to make a more complete one that has the good qualities of both the sounds you started with.

You find another sample which complements the one you're using. For example if your kick has a good low end but the other frequencies are too weak, find one with stronger higher frequencies and eq them so they have a stronger sound that's coherent to what you're trying to achieve.

WHAT THE FUCK ABLETON
why is my PostFX send getting muted after 4 bars

its not a send its an "external tapping source"

>is my interface just cheap?
it's that. i've dealt with it for di, not fun. record an amp or upgrade.

sample choice programming compression it's simple

gs says it's good so

lol

Haven't listened to your clyp yet, but I just wanna ask, does this song make you cry? It's emotional for me.

I got you

ITS BULLSHIT NOTHING IS GETTING MUTED OR EVEN AUTOMATED WHAT THE FUCK

AH MOTHER FUCKER
I WAS ON THE WRONG TRACK WITH THE SAME NAME
FUCK
WHY DO I HAVE TWO SUB TRACKS

remember to give all of your tracks a unique name
it prevents headaches

Does softube modular really not have a DUSG/Maths clone?

you can just download the demo and get a key generator

Will it also have every plugin or just those in the lower tiers?

they are plugins with tiny knobs

I got it with all if the plugins. Found the key gen on reddit.

octatrack

Ah cool

I'd link you to it but I can't find the post because that website is shit lol

Don't worry if I need it I'll google it.
Good to know I only have to find that.

Although I don't really trust activators from random sources, so I'd rather download the whole thing from a website I trust and be sure I won't get ransomwared than save some time on the download and risk all kinds of shit.

yeah its no problem my guy.

I do everything on the ipad
>iMPC pro
>Magellan synth
>dm-2 drum synth
>Audiobus
>AudioShare
Try to tell me why this setup is worse than whatever most people use (i dont even know anymore). I think it’s great.

If it works for you and you're satisfied with the capabilities and results you have, then good for you.
No need to change if you don't need to change.

i have no rap to rap but i did try some trumpets and added a glide deal with the bass
clyp.it/4jcgvxhx

What does this have to do with what the guy posted?

He asked for cool techniques to experiment with, this is a cool technique to experiment with.
How dense are you.

Ah shit, I forgot about that part.
I thought it was just supposed to be related to the technique in the post.

>How dense are you.
Very, apparently.
