Do you think the US will ever effectively adopt high speed rail ways? Or will lobbyists always shoot it down?

Do you think the US will ever effectively adopt high speed rail ways? Or will lobbyists always shoot it down?

>High initial capital cost
>not already bloated program
>not related to military
It's not happening, sadly. Our government is retarded when it comes to infrastructure projects

The United States are too large for railway networks.

Its quicker to go by airplane.

The only real rail links I could foresee is the west coast to have something at the speed of a bullet train, and to finish up the northeast corridor. Across the nation there is no point since airplanes are quicker.

"Upbeat music initiates"

California is trying to do it in the state.

I pray to god this happens.

That's true. But in some cases like Dallas, houston and the Northwestern corridor it may be worth it

It is already happening. Right now I'm working on the rail-line from St.Louis to Chicago. The train once constructed should easily top 100mph with the current line going about 50mph.

Essentially they're guinea pigging with this line as its a relatively flat consistent piece of line that is used often. If it goes well, there will probably be a new line to Detroit in a few years.

...

Localized pockets yes.

But across the country its increasingly pointless because its quicker to go to the airport, wait in security, fly, enough buffer time for 1 hour delay, and then go through the arriving airport again and get a rental car.

In Europe train networks are competitive because of the retarded high state subsidies (the rail networks are all largely nationalized) and because the airport route is much slower and more stressful.

CA here. I can confirm. They say it will take 3 years.

I want to believe. Isn't the hyper loop in commiefornia gonna be privately funded? Haven't heard anything for some time about it

>3 years

they can't even get the right transformers for BART

the hyperloop tube is extremely expensive and will be crossing several major faultlines.

i doubt it will ever be built because airtravel is just as fast and much cheaper. who is going to pay for it? property taxes are already sky high here.

I don't remember whos paying for it but it was on the news.

In its entire operating history, Amtrak has never made one cent of profit.

so yeah, lets totally go ahead and build more rail systems in a country dominated by car culture.

...

Ok, then we'll be flying these fuckers

>lobbyists
I think you mean "voters"

lobbyists been pushing for that socialist bullshit for decades.

I once used a map transposition program to stitch Japan's entire railway system over the United States, and tried to find something reasonable. So, if you want THE EXACT SAME SYSTEM, just scooped up and plopped down on our country, you can go from Chicago to Oklahoma City. No problem.

Who would ever go to Oklahoma City, though?

you don't have them?

serious question

>less efficient than planes
>expensive
>always running into cars or animals or occasionally people
>always being attacked by terrorists
>practically useless
Why would we won't this at all?

No, I mean lobbyists. Delta Airlines has lobbied against it in Texas. As well as fast food companies who are located along the interstate.

Want*

Cuz muh in yurop you have them and the social state there is so good.

A railway network in the US would make sense if you x2.5 the population density nationwide.

Der Österreicher versteht.
