Man, what happened to music like this?

Man, what happened to music like this?

I'm listening to a 2017 version vinyl on my Audeze LCD3 with Woo Audio WA7 amp with custom bulbs, and it's amazing how good music was just a mere 20 years ago.

What, you mean you don't enjoy ultra-stripped down trap beats with just kicks and snares and rattling hi-hats and vocals slapped like shit on a canvas?

Are you a born in le wrong generation fag per chance?

>Le wrong generation meme
saw it coming a mile away, nigger.

I've tried to listen to this multiple times but it's bored me to death each time. I do like the With Teeth album by NIN so it's not like I don't like them at all.

What am I missing?

>With Teeth
That's literally one of his worst albums after he tried to commit suicide. He was sober during that album.

>What am I missing?
Everything? NIN encapsulated the 90s mainstream industrial rock.

Trent is a genius.

Although I'm a huge fan of Skinny Puppy, Ministry, etc....Trent just was so diverse in general.

I loved Pretty Hate Machine. My favourite song off The Downward Spiral is probably March of the Pigs although overall 1-5 are good but after that is when it gets boring for me

>Pretty Hate Machine
Fucking amazing album.

Also Broken EP was the jam before he started doing Downward Spiral and The Fragile (both masterpieces of audio in my opinion).

He was his best when he was on heroin and angry. Now, not so much. Although that Oscar probably looks good at his mansion. But the guy deserves some rest, he could've easily went out like Cobain.

Suicide attempt?

yeah it's almost like companies don't invest in music now because there is little return...who woulda thunk?

Yeah around 2003-2004 I think, before With Teeth, he OD'd on Heroin and almost died.

What's curious about this whole situation is, these kinds of good albums were cash cows in the 90s.

There's still good music being made
Even good POPULAR music is still being made
Maybe not at a rate that it once was being made, but you have to be an extremely closed-minded person or a troll to think that good music isn't still coming out

Yeah I know there's good music out there. I'm always on SoundCloud/Whatever n shiet looking for new shit.

But it's just not the same.

It's not the same, engineering is not the same. Browsing the record store, finding the album and going home, unpacking the album and listening to it.....it's just not the same.

Remember, these guys used to be in the Top 10 charts, and they made dank ass popular music.

His suicide attempt occured during the production of The Fragile. The Heroin OD happened shortly after the Fragility tour wrapped up, he was clean by 2001

´There was no real "suicide attempt"
He bought this house near sea which he lied to the public he'd write Fragile tracks on when in reality he wanted to drown himself, he didn't, he was all alone and the only track he wrote there was "La Mer", a song about suicide by drowning.

>2017 version vinyl on my Audeze LCD3 with Woo Audio WA7 amp with custom bulbs
How is this relevant to the rest of your post?

i forgot the quotation marks, just woke up.

Wrong. I can't find the article right now, but it was right after The Fragile came out and he went touring for like 3 years in the early 2000s

Hey that Manson album was amazing.

The bassline in Beautiful People is great.

for me, it's R&B from 1981-1983 and rock from 1971-74

nin.wiki/Tour
No tours past 2000

nin.wiki/Trent_Reznor#Rehab_and_Recovery

>Overdosing on heroin was a wake-up call to Reznor, who now could not deny his problems. Worse news came in 2001, almost a year after the Fragility tour ended. While working on a live CD and DVD chronicling the US leg of the tour, a studio technician Reznor befriended was shot and killed in a gang-related crime. Seeing that his addictions had contributed to gang activity, Reznor was determined to get his problems under control. On June 11, 2001, Reznor checked into a New Orleans rehabilitation center

Want to try again?

Trent played on and produced that Manson, is everyone in this thread completely stupid? There is such a ton of bullshit here it's incredible.

Trent Reznor produced the first two Marilyn Manson albums

>Want to try again?
Still wrong.

Wrong again.

Trent signed Manson to Nothing Records/Interscope and produced one album (Antichrist Superstar) and a few singles. They had a feud right after and Manson left, but then reunited for a video in 1999 (Starfuckers) then they had beef again and it's been like that for a while.

never liked downward spiral. overrated mess
the fragile and pretty hate machine is much better.

Pretty Hate Machine is the most overrated record in NIN discography.

Year Zero is the best NIN album, also the most underrated.

He had producer credit for PoaAF and Smells Like Children as well.

So you know Reznor's """""suicide attempts""""" and touring schdules better then what he admitted to.

Find the article or fuck off.

That is what I said, he produced Antichrist. My post was regarding the similarity in artwork on those albums which shouldn't be a surprise considering they were friends.

Yes he produced those, but they were already recorded AFAIK, he just polished it a bit and put it together.

Sweet Dreams was probably cleaned up by Trent.

Antichrist Superstar was a brand new album from scratch with Trent at the helm that's why it sounds so damn good. Beautiful People is Trent playing the bass.

Everything upto With Teeth is great.

Broken EP is underrated by miles and better than Pretty Hate Machine (a very simple album) but the guy was like 20 and recorded that thing as a janitor in a studio at night, so....just the fact that there's so many layers to this guys music is amazing to me. I'm here listening on my Audeze and there's a lot of detail.

Year Zero was meh, he just made that to get off Interscope.

I can't find it right now, but I remember it was on some NIN fan site with proper credits. I'll post when I find it.

And the Lost Highway tracks by Manson he produced too. And Manson's voice is on Gave Up from Broken.

>Broken EP is underrated
Fuck no.
>Year Zero was meh, he just made that to get off Interscope.
It has huge concept and a huge sound change and shit ton of layers.

Manson is a used up whore now, he sued to be so damn good

I saw the Broken movie when I was a kid, maybe that's why it fucked me up so badly and I like Broken a lot. It's pretty raw.

Year Zero is too electronic/conceptual for what I like about NIN.

Manson didn't sing on Broken, he was just in the video
>Beautiful People is Trent playing the bass
wrong

Yes, Marilyn Manson is singing on Gave Up. Listen to the song, you moron.

They didn't start working together until after Trent started Nothing and moved into the Tate House which was after Broken was recorded.
Nowhere in the credits of Broken is Manson named
Even in Manson's made up biography he says the first time he worked with Trent was in miming on the Give Up video
Take some advice from Trent and Give Up, pleb.

why do you keep being so fucking wrong. Are you being willfully ignorant? The only people credited to that song are Flood and Reznor.

>Year Zero is too electronic/conceptual for what I like about NIN.

>Year Zero is too electronic/conceptual for what I like about NIN.
When NIN is conceptual it is best NIN.

Wrong, it's a faggoty album.

He's only good when angry, depressed and on heroin.

Now he's a big pussy married to some niggress.

You are a retarded.
He is still angry.
Trent was never on heroin you dumb fuck, he only almost died from it, he mostly did cocaine or booze. You don't know anything about his actual situation at the time.
Fuck off pleb.

Some people just don't fuckin' get that nine inch nails is an experimental, electronic based, avant garde musical concept. It's certainly not industrial.

Also, my physical component to Add Violence shipped this morning.

That nigga was on heroin, watch the 1994 Woodstock concert, he's totally fucked in the head.

And everyone who knows what happened back stage says he was always fucked up.

Manson is the one who faked being drunk and high all the time.

Obvious troll is obvious.

>It's certainly not industrial.

Are you retarded?

Trent is obviously a big fan of Skinny Puppy, etc.

He's also a big fan of Bowie and Prince.

He has a wide range of talent and kept evolving until With Teeth, it's all trash from thereon out. At least he's trying.

The fucking guy even did Drum n Bass shit, his drum machine skills are impeccable.

Not to mention he scored one of my favorite gaymes of all time, Quake.

That's great doesn't mean nine inch nails is industrial. Influenced by? Sure. But he definitely does not make industrial music. The closest he came was the broken E.P. Any real industrial fan would say nine inch nails is too poppy.

>until With Teeth, it's all trash from thereon out. At least he's trying.
stop shit posting please, he has literally evolved as an artist more than he ever did before through soundtracks and moving to different sounds throughout his albums and his new EPs are some of the best works from him.

He was experimenting with shrooms at the time of the show. What was what he was on.

...

Trent Reznor is Reddit personified.

Radiohead fits that bill.

/r/im14andthisisdeep

Radiohead are good.

Nine Inch Nails isn't.

But Radiohead is just nine inch nails for pussies.

kek, no, just no.

yes. reddit

>edgelord manlet with an asian waifu

sounds more like Sup Forums desu.

literally /ourdad/

>Sup Forums
>edgelords
try Sup Forums or Sup Forums (since he actually browses it apparently)

I would love to hear your justification for this
Reddit is just used by morons who want to say something is bad without actually being able to explain

It'll never happen.

well he played video games between recording sessions for The Downward Spiral, and produced the Quake soundtrack. Sup Forums is still full of edgy faggots though.

I'm still campaigning for him Atticus and Alessandro to score cyberpunk 2077. The fuckin' dream.

>2017 version vinyl
I know this is going to bring much hate, but TDS was never meant to be played on vinyl, sorry.

Trent Reznor is going to slaughter you for that one.

>Yes he produced those, but they were already recorded AFAIK, he just polished it a bit and put it together.
Yeah, I remember listening to the version made by the first producer few years ago and to my ears, there aren't much differences between the two versions. TR probably just made changes in the mix.

>I'm still campaigning for him Atticus and Alessandro to score cyberpunk 2077.
What does Alessandro bring to the band? I know he is synth nerd and all, but is he involved in the composition of songs?

He's done a good bit of solo work and his drone work would fit really nicely. The interesting part is they don't even need to really collaborate together. They could do their own pieces. Then one massive main theme between the three of them. Layers on layers of electronic work.

vulture.com/2017/07/trent-reznor-nine-inch-nails.html

>With Marilyn Manson, who I thought was a great artist back then.
>back then
I love you Trent.

From the recent live videos I've seen, he seems to have his shit together now (probably thanks to Tyler Bates). I'm curious to hear his next record.

Check out the whole interview, he talked about liking the EP format.
That way he can refine the music.

I read it the other day. Great interview (even though the interviewer really is a product of its time).

save him Reznor ;_;

oopps

It took me 3 listens for the album to "click", now I love it. The remix album is good too.

he never holds back does he

I was at that concert and I'll never forget that performance of La Mer. Really powerful stuff.

i'll never understand why NIN is popular. always thought coil and psychic tv did what he did but better

You say he was sober like it was a bad thing.
I will agree that With Teeth is one of the weaker albums Trent's made (weakest being The Slip, and I still enjoy listening to that), but it's silly to say it's bad because he was sober. That doesn't explain why Hesitation Marks, Ghosts I-IV, or Not The Actual Events have some of his best work in them. It's more a problem with the album itself than Trent's lifestyle at the time. Especially considering it came after a run of four of his best releases, including The Downward Spiral and The Fragile, either of which could be considered magnum opuses, and Broken, one of the best releases of 1992.
and hey, even With Teeth could be worse. It could be Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D.

he's just stirring shit.

t. Industrial autist

Music is objectively shitter now and if you disagree you are a rotebrained reddit cunt and need to fuck off back to 2005 when people thought you were ahead of the curve for saying 'popular music was always full of crap your just remembering the good stuff you're a rockist etc'

No I don't listen to King Crimson or dadrock or whatever you're thinking. I'm not bemoaning a lack of virtuosity. Top 40 music has the emotional content of The Wiggles now. It's because the music that appeals to people who are too braindead to work a torrent program, the kind of people who watch & enjoy the fast and furious series, is the music that's sucking up all the money.

And the '''argument''' against this is some listing off factoid lisa simpson bazinga reddit fag shit because you read something a reddit mod said and got mad upvotes and gold for it and you can't think for yourself. You are sleepwalk crossed-wires thinking of anti-racism or something when you get mad when people say current music is bad. Or thinking about about showing that you're a really idiosyncratic fun normal guy by saying actually I like something that is shit.

It's objectively bad, it's a bellweather for end times, people are not creative anymore. It's not the same historical cycle of music with up to date technology like you imply because that's not how reality works.

Listen to throbbing gristle u fukn bleb

Is rhis a pasta

No. Many of your favorite artists from the pre-napster age, would never have made what they did because they wouldn't have been able to make a living from selling records, meaning they would not have had the time required to reach such heights because they would be juggling a dayjob.

Try pretty hate machine, it's a lot better than this crap.

With Teeth is my most despise NIN album and albums in general. I don't expect Trent to make a master work like TDS or Broken every time, but White Teeth sounds like ultra generic 90s radio friendly rock music. Absolutely godawful and cringey. There is no way he isn't embarrassed by it to this day.

You can blame Rick Rubin. Reznor wanted to revive his career, but didn't want to get bogged down so early in his recovery. So he went to Rubin for advice and With Teeth was the project.

Last 4 tracks tho.

this. With Teeth should have been an EP or a shorter album

With Teeth
Only (it's a really neat call back to Down In It)
Home
Love Is Not Enough
Sunspots
The Line Begins to Blur
Beside You In Time
Right Where it Belongs

and non-entity

With_Teeth is underrated, it has amazing punches to the face, only fags call it "cringey"

I wouldn't be embarrassed about an album that contains "The Line Begins To Blur"

pretty hate machine is overrated.

Can't think of an album that's aged worse. Such a landmark record though

All the Love is such a strong opener and that switch-up in the middle is deadly.

Lol

completely forgot about all the love in the world. Honestly with exception to 2-4 songs, With Teeth was great, and of those 4 songs, only Getting Smaller is cringey

Getting Smaller is not cringey, it has just that "flip flop" moment, other than that it is a nice rock sock, the raw delivery is what sells it.
It's better than fucking collector.

I actually quite like The Collector. It's funny how divisive and polarizing WT is. It's a strange sort of experiment when you get past the singles,

>it's all trash from thereon out
Fuck outta here with that, Hesitation Marks and the two EPs are fantastic

Fuck you. With Teeth beats everything after With Teeth.
>muh buttrock meme
Yeah, i guess him using all the same beat foundations for Year Zero with a bunch of static at the end of each song was much better.
