what a meme field of study

only geology could be even more meme

Is Tampa fucked? My sister was too fucking stuid to evacuate even though our entire family has been constantly telling her since Tuesday.

>meme field of study
you should go outside and talk to people in person

stay safe fellow Sup Forumsros...

If you were in Hurricane Irma's path, would you suck a log of shit out of Andy Sixx's asshole?

It's all about proximity to the coast. The while city will experience high winds with gusts in excess of 100mph. The threat to life comes mainly from storm surge, which could be as high as 10ft just south of Clearwater toward Sarasota. Power will likely be out for weeks, gas stations will be sold out of fuel, and flooded areas could have raw sewage spewing in. Just tell them to make sure they have plenty of supplies and non perishables to last up to two weeks in the event of a worst cast scenario.

How is the panhandle looking?

will florida be irreversibly flooded? I mean, will parts of florida that were land be underwater forever?

...

It's ride or die, hope Irma takes me in my sleep... If not, ready for those damn looters.

Will the Everglades flood?

whats the diffrence between a Hurricane, a Tornado and a twister?

I'd like to know more about these terminologies.

>being a us citizen
>not having a gun

I don't live in Florida, but the far north of México.
Should I w0rry?

I do have guns, hence ready for those damn looters.

Panhandle all depends on track and your exact location. The further north up the coast it makes landfall, the worse conditions will be. The one thing you have in your fave there is the counterclockwise flow will prevent long fetches over the gulf since the system will be to your east. That being said, expect high winds with gusts up to 80 mph (maybe 100 on the coast), widespread power outages, flash flooding, and a risk of tornadoes. Probably not worth evacuation unless you're on the coast near the big bend, but have an emergency kit ready as large hurricanes are known for throwing in last minute monkey wrenches.

tornado: tornado
twister: tornado
hurricane: water tornado

What's the difference between partly cloudy, partly sunny, and sun/cloud mix?

The cleanup effort will take many years in some areas and there will be some severe coastal erosion, but as far as permanently flooded? No. Florida is like a lightning rod to hurricanes and has been struck many times over the years. Irma will probably be in the top 3 strikes that we know about, maybe even the worst. That being said, our records only go back to the mid 1800s.

Yes. Worst damage will be from wind though.

sorry, I read "I'm not ready for those damn looters"

Will the beaches be severely affected? Is this the end of floridian white sand beach paradise?

All Weather apps and websites are complete bullshit that come from one forecast model that isn't even very good. It's not even worth looking at if you actually want to plan something that's weather-dependent. Look to your local meteorologist and the National Weather Service for more sound advice.

It's cool, I'm just hoping this bitch will kill me so I don't have to gok back to my miserable job :) If not then, it defend my shit I work for until work calls us back in... Hopefully no on steals my shit while I'm working, I would be sad then...

What makes you think I got those terms from a weather app or website? You've never used any of those terms?

I'm not an expert on coastal erosion, but the coastline will recover. You may have a bit less space between the homes and where the waves break but nothing irreversible unless irma intensifies back into a 170+ cat 5 with sub 910mb pressure.

I'm not a tv metorologist, I work primarily in the field of energy and agriculture. But as for the terms, they all mean relatively he same thing because they're measuring a percentage of cloud cover between 15-50%

a water tornado is a waterspout try again

Is irma worst or going to be than Harvey? And isn't a third one coming after irmA?

isnt it gay to die from wind?

>what is google?

A hurricane is a well defined area of low pressure that form in ocean waters characterized by convection (thunderstorms) spinning counter clockwise around a center (the eye). In most cases, the majority of damage is done by a relatively small area around the eye called the eye wall. This region which can be a ring 10-150ish miles in diameter contains winds over 74mph and can drive water into beaches and bays, inundating low - lying areas. Irma is unique not only because of its strength, but it's enormous size. The storm surge effect (pushing water inland) will impact significantly more area with this storm than just about any other. In addition, the diameter of hurricane force winds will cover a large area.

Why is it turning like 180° after hitting Cuba to slam right into Florida? Is there a specific reason that caused it?

How far out did the water in the Bahamas go? Like how far could you walk out? Gimme miles

yes, its one of the gayest ways to die, alongside autoerotic asphyxiation and aids

How fucked will my place in sanibel island be after all of this?

here's to irma being a -170 cat 4 with over 910m pressure

user here that doesn't know much about weather phenomena. a change in direction is likely going to be due to winds or pressure differences. i might be wrong but its a solid guess

>180°
nigga wut?

They're very different hurricanes. Most of the destruction caused by Harvey was due to a unique weather pattern that resulted in a track that meandered over southeast texas for almost a week, dropping 50" of rain in places.

Irma will bring the full package of destruction. The flooding will not be as bad as Harvey, though some places gout get over a foot of rain. The storm surge will cover a MUCH greater area and impact the coastline severely. There will also be gusts of over 100mph over the entire west coast of Florida and even pretty far inland. High winds will cause power outages and downed trees as far north as the mountains of NC.

yeah wouldnt 180 mean the hurricane would completely reverse direction

I live 2 minutes from the gulf of Mexico. About an hour from Tampa. I didn't evacuate. Am I fucked?

...

Why answer a question you don't know the answer to, dumbass? Especially when OP should know the answer.

90 degrees you autist

Is disney going to get destroyed?

What's your take on climate change

Irma's sudden northward turn is the result of the storm interacting with a number of features as the upper levels of the atmosphere. A storm that size has many things all competing to steer it, and they all influence it in different ways which makes forecasting large hurricanes so much more difficult. The feature having the most impact on Irma's path now is an upper level low to the north west that pulls the hurricane north with its counterclockwise flow.

>people in person
irl is a meme, didn't you know?

I live in miami. Ive never really worried over hurricanes and it looks like i was right not to this time either, other than for power outages.
Question: Why werent the meteorologists able to predict it will hit the southwestern part of Florida till it actually swerved towards it?

North or south of Tampa? It'll be be very bad both ways but south of the city near Sarasota will be worse. Make sure you have enough bottled water, non - perishable food items, and batteries to potentially last you up to two weeks in the event of a worst case scenario or a sudden track change that puts you squarely in the path of the eyewall.

many discoveries are the result of questions being answered from people who dont know the answer to the questions they answer. the question arises why answer my answer with a question?

Why do Americans call cyclones hurricanes?

Makes sense. So the bigger it is the more likely interferences will alter its path? So is it possible that its path could be altered at this juncture or is it going to roll through regardless at this point?

Why to non-Americans call hurricanes cyclones?

>hurricane: water tornado
what? no! a hurricane is severe storm in the Atlantic, look up the differences between hurricanes, zyklones and typhoons.

thoughtco.com/is-it-hurricane-typhoon-or-cyclone-3443958

North of Tampa. Literally on the fucking edge of land that's on the gulf of Mexico. The realization that I'm fucked just hit me hard. All shelters were full as of yesterday. Eye of the storm is directly in my path and I'm near the gulf. That's what gets me

thoughtco.com/is-it-hurricane-typhoon-or-cyclone-3443958

We knew it would turn north at some point, but the problem is that a delay of 12 hours of the turn can result in landfall on the west vs the earth coast of Florida since the peninsula is so narrow. There are a bunch of steering influences in the upper layers of the atmosphere all trying to steer the hurricane in different ways. If computer models are even a fraction of a percent wrong about any of these, it can have major implications on the track. When we are this close to an event, the best way to forecast is simply to look at the satellite images and see how each piece is fitting into the puzzle. I understand it can be frustrating, but I hope it does not prevent you from planning for storms in the future because next time you may not be so lucky. Believe me, Miami is EXTREMELY lucky right now.

you have a boat?

can you tell us about the secret government weather control machine trump turned on to keep the hurricane from taking out another one of his mansions?

Why do all the projections keep saying it's going to go North, when all week it hasn't, and instead gone WNW.

Little wobbles in either direction can absolutely still take place which is why it's important to heed warnings as a 30 mile shift west or east can have massive implications because of the orientation of the peninsula (north to south) in relation to Irma's path (south to north) 50 miles east, hurricane force winds are felt across tel he ENTIRE state. 50 miles west, the worst is confined to the beaches of south and southwestern florida and the storm stays over water longer, meaning it can intensify further and make landfall somewhere much for the northwest like Destin.

Why would he want to destroy the state that is home to some of his resorts and practically won him the election?

Late interaction with upper atmospheric steering flow.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

oops already answered, thanks.

Nah it's majorly storm surge waters. In and out. Just takes time.

well its not perfect, but it moved the path from the east side of flordia to the west.

Gather what supplies you can still get. If possible seek shelter in somewhere on higher ground if you have any friends or relatives or just anyone out know in general in a better position than you, go to them. This is about your safety so drop any thoughts that might lead you to stay where you are. There is still a window of opportunity but you have to get out NOW if you are going to do so. If not, hunker down and fortify your home in any way you can (barricade windows if at all possible). If water looks like it is going to trap you inside your home, get on the roof. It may see lo stupid, but drowning is stupider. Take deep breaths, make a gameplan, and tell yourself you're going to make it. You've got this, user.

Is irma a targeted attack by a human force?

Have you seen Stephanie Abrams's tits?

How is this storm not gonna follow the path of Ike and hit Galveston? You guys think it's gonna do a Donna instead. We shall see.

wot

How is Tampa going to fare?

Is there anyway this hurricane could go up the East Coast, or do you have enough evidence to confirm it's predicted path?

Ew no. Her geeky passion is pretty sex though. I'd bang Lindsay Tapases in a heartbeat though. Most 'hot' meteorologists are just a pretty face for TV and suck at forecasting outside of reading basic models.

because thats what they are.

Going to get fucked up. I live closer to the east coast and I'll probably get around a foot of rain here. Winds not as high as Tampa.

There are ridges of high pressure to the north and east of the storm, limiting how far it can make it in those directions. It will weaken rapidly once it makes its way into the northern half of Georgia and the Appalachian Mountains will rip it apart.

weatherwar101

Thanks OP, New York doesn't get to deal with Irma's bullshit this time...

Predicted storm surge for Zone B in channelside, Tampa, FL???

Real and a threat. Not the cause of more frequent or stronger storms. This outbreak of strong hurricanes is the result of a number of factors, but first and foremost because of the La Nina (cooler than normal water in the equatorial Pacific). There is very little tropical activity anywhere else in the world right now other than the atlantic, which isn't as flashy but it is equally as anomalous.

climate change has been happening since the beginning of time. Its something that happens and there isnt shit we as humans can do or change about it.

They're called different things depending on where they are. A "hurricane" in the west pacific is called a Typhoon. In the south pacific or indian ocean they're cyclones.

Blue 3-6ft
Yellow 6-9ft
Red dots 9ft+

I personally think the storm will intensify further and these numbers will go up about 20%, but then again I do not work for the NHC.

this looks like furry porn in a glance

Coming to you live from the Port of Tampa

Thanks brother. I had some family up and leave without telling us and I'm a caregiver so the situation is a nightmare. They even stole money from us to leave us stranded in Florida.

At first I wasn't sure which direction to hold my phone, then I decided I've had too much to drink.

Rooting for maximum devastation and top keks. Fuck Florida. Fuck the spoiled and entitled retirees, the shitty amusement parks, the endless horde of wetbacks, and all the rich celebrities who live there. I hope Miami, Tampa, Naples, Clearwater, and Orlando are reduced to fucking rubble. Nothing of value was lost.

...

Let me guess, you think the earth is flat and is only 6000 years old?
Please, do not breed.

Pretty much. That's all we've been doing since yesterday

UPDATE

Irma has begun it's turn to the NNW and looks to be begin intensifying as it tracks over very warm water toward Florida. Do not be surprised if the storm has 150+mph winds before landfall.

Dag bro

Cat 5 hitting Tampa would be so sweet

Don't hesitate. Blow their fucking heads off. And then post them on Sup Forums. Lowlife scum of the earth. I told the wife earlier today that I bet tons of those fuckers are lying low, just waiting for their opportunity. Imagine a whole fucking state empty and ripe for the taking.
