I never liked Wild Honey but I was told the Sunshine Tomorrow version made it better. I'll listen to that momentarily.
I forgot to ask about what people thought about the film Love and Mercy and the recent Brian Wilson and Mike Love biographies
(or any other films/books about the band)
Also interested in any bootlegs or unreleased material from the band that people really like and would like to see released officially
Solid choices
Good Vibes only please
It was a grower for me, personally. Carl Wilson's vocals are really incredible on the album, especially on the singles. If you don't like the rnb/soulful type sound, this BW song always stood out for me on the album:

Also the album cover is great. Pic related is the original source, the stained glass window at Brian's house (pictured with his wife and sister in law - not sure if they were still the Honeys or Spring/American Spring yet)
the greatest album ever created. animal collective in the 1960s. can't find the link but some user posted a mix of smile sessions and BWPS. please post that link again if you have it, best version of the album
also mike love is underrated
Underrated
Can't Wait Too Long is WONDERFUL! Does this version not have that spoken part like on the Good Vibrations box set version? I really like that section
4th of July along w/ Wouldn't It Be Nice To Live Again should have been on Surf's Up
Pacific Ocean Blue is a gem. Are you going to pick up the Bambu Record Store Day release this year?
Fan of the "Cocaine sessions"?
Brian near the window wearing an all white outfit like on Sunflower and Adidas Sambas
AnCo was definitely very influence by the BBs. I used to have that version but do not have access to it now. It was interesting but quite honestly not my favorite version - definitely a lot of work went into it though. Mike Love certainly gets a lot of flack from fans. He's had many great contributions like The Warmth of the Sun lyrics, Big Sur, All I Wanna Do, there are even a few later songs by him that many dislike that I enjoy such as Sumahama or Brian Is Back
Don't know if I can recall too many tracks I really enjoy from it besides Kokomo or In My Car
Somewhere Near Japan is one of their best songs. Its off Still Cruisin'
Holy shit that window is big..
Does it still exist?
Surfin USA would be a good album if it didnt have 5 fucking instrumentals out of 12 songs total
thanks for the link
Not really sure. I think there was a thread about it on one of the Beach Boys message boards (probably Smiley Smile) asking that same question. I think someone said someone like Jeff Foskett or someone who knew Brian owns it now. It might have been moved by Brian from one house to another as well. Not really 100% on either of those though
Well it was the early 60s. I does have some fantastic songs on it though. A lot of the early albums do.
My favorite album is probably Wild Honey. I love how unrestrained and free it sounds. Also I love Carl on vocals. Pet Sounds comes second.
Favorite tracks are Good Vibrations, Help Me Rhonda, I'm Waiting For the Day, Darlin', I'd Love Just Once to See You, Do You Wanna Dance, and River Song if you count solo stuff (it's better than anything the beach boys released during that period)
Favorite member is either Carl or Dennis.
Nice picks. Agree with the sound of Wild Honey. I thought River Song was supposed to be a Beach Boys song originally anyway
Carl had the sweetest voice imo, definitely after Brian's early-mid 60s voice. Dennis was probably the best songwriter besides Brian and had some of the most emotional/soulful songs
smile (2004) >>>> smile (1967)
I used to believe that with the H&V and a few other songs, I guess mostly because I'd been exposed to Smile first through BWPS. I prefer the Beach Boys vocals on the songs though and the tracks from the Smile Sessions version now, there's just something holy/spiritual about their voices and the original tracks. And technically you can't compare it to the "original smile" or "smile 67" since it never was completed or came out. I rarely listen to BWPS since TSS has come out. Like the other user in the thread said there's that version that tries to combine the both of them that's pretty interesting
Bump
>he hasn't heard Surfin' 2000
Top pleb
Mike's work on Today stands out for me. When I Grow Up and Kiss Me Baby are some of the best pop vocals ever and his lyrics on stuff like Please let me Wonder do not get enough credit.
