808 or 909?
Other urls found in this thread:
meh, why use either? make your own sounds or at least use something less overused
808
808 for sound quality
909 just because of nostalgia (grew up listening to 90s acid house)
>everyone look at me i'm too "cool" to use mainstream instruments haha i only use percussion based on sampled fart noises run through my $5000 modular synthesizer B)
808 at the beach haha
TR909 absolutely
detroit techno is incredible
>hurr I'm making retarded assumptions in lieu of an actual rebuttal
I'll take both
909, 808 has never soundsd good t b h
garbage
sounds like shit compared to both
I bet you'd never notice the difference in a recording
909. 808 is fine but it's been used to death in mainstream music
the 909 has been used to death just as much
depends entirely on the type of music
for hip hop or edm or stuff like that? probably can't tell a difference. but there are ways to process an 808 to make it more subtle which you can't to on the TR-8 because the sounds they based it off of are the rougher kind and they added some sort of inherent overdrive to the damn thing
also there's no excuse considering you can buy a Yocto or Nava which are for all intents and purposes literal part-for-part analog recreations of 808s and 909s for only $200 more

whats a good drum machine in the $250 range?
i am on strict budget here :(
depends on what you're trying to do
Analog or digital? Analog drum machine circuits can actually be fairly complex.
i just wanna make glitchy sounding beats
probably digital because itll probably be cheaper
Can't you just use software? Hardware drum machines generally aren't going to be that flexible. You could get a Yamaha RY30 or something but I don't really see much point.

i guess i could
any software recs?
Use anything. Edit samples or whatever, it's not difficult.

It does not really matter. You should use the one you can afford and the one which offers better user experience.

909 for me
Probably a "controversial" opinion on my end but I hate the sound of 808 drums.
Its nice to know someone else in this world likes 707
