I think equality could exist at some point when everyone is on board with the need for change or a reset on equality. We are still in the stage of informing others on the need for change. I think what they consider dominance is protection. Men dominate other men all the time, if you really think about it, without protection and concern to go with it. Women are viewed as defenseless as young children, which, I'll admit, I consider foolish.
Nonetheless, they are generally given priority over men and considered more sacred for unknown reasons. None of this is male dominance, in my opinion.
