Give me the best ambient has to offer, the créme de la créme. I haven't been able to stop listening to pic rel recently, more specifically tracks 1-3, so anything that sounds close to this would be a godsend. Otherwise, ambient recs in general are much appreciated.
Discuss ambient, post your favorite tracks/albums, let's get dissociative.
Just got Endless Falls on vinyl finally. Was the album that got me into ambient orginally, maybe 5 years ago now. Been playing it non stop
Jordan Gomez
im assuming you've listened to his other stuff? loscil is really good, particularly first narrows
Colton Murphy
I have, yeah. All good but not the same sort of melodic, breathing formlessness I'm craving.
Checking out Loscil's First Narrows now, thanks
Michael Roberts
no problem! hope you enjoy it
David Butler
>specifically tracks 1-3 why do you exclude track 4?
Kayden Green
It's such a simple receipt to making great ambient music Put only so much progression and variety in your music that it won't be boring. Nothing more or less.
Julian Lee
>4/4 beat 4 is a great piece, I love the whole album, but the non-rhythmic pieces entice me the most. 5 and 6 also feel more stagnant, not as much by way of melody
Joshua Thompson
First Narrows is great! Loscil really is a good rec
Hudson Hall
Really I should say "less-rhythmic", as all music has rhythm, but the unstructured rhythm is what I'm after
Anthony Harris
I'm a fairly big Biosphere fan, especially his album 'Dropsonde', which is almost like an ambient album fused with nu-jazz percussion.
bahaha! that was clever. Check out Shuttle358's optimal.lp my good sir, I think you may like it. If you have Spotify, check out that playlist up there.
Btw, what do you guys think of the current state of ambient music? It's become something I listen to daily. Who do you consider to be the most visible artist within the genre today? (Besides Eno)
Anyone know of any ambient similar to GY!BE's ambient sections like with harmonic drones, samples etc. Also this album is pretty fucking good especially empire systems

these are all great, thanks for reminding me again about tim hecker and Iasos. You ever listen to the Hearts of Space radio show?
Sebastian Reed
Can't say I have friend but I've been listening to Ambient music for a very long time and have played some on the radio before. I'll give it a listen though
Still looking for more stuff like October Language and Tim Hecker's incurably optimistic! Ambient where theres lots of noise laid over a simple repeating drone where it comes out wonderfully emotional
Jaxson Hall
I've been listening to this playlist for hours now. Thanks for this. I like that Laraaji guy, hadn't heard him before.
OP here and I left this thread for a while, loving the first track already user. Many thanks
Carson Perry
I'm hoping this is a joke and I'm being meme'd upon

I'm happy to see Ambient finally getting a foothold on here. The genre is growing.

Dude, where? Don't fuck with me like that..

eh, there's also about a million obscure ambient artists and a billion low effort unremarkable releases, it's kind of impossible to navigate

It's music down to it's purest form. It makes you really come to grips with why we listen.

For me, it opens up this almost hypnotic state that almost no other music offers me. I don't know how to explain it, but it's like I can get lost in the sound, and at the same time my mind can wander anywhere. There's a clarity of thought there, and also a sort of comforting drift, at once independent of each other and connected.
this girl's music was recommended to me on spotify like 2 years ago and im still hooked, check out her little album/ep, shallow, she did a while back, comfy as fuck and it sucks shes been inactive for a while
Thomas Howard
not a meme, just a bad reputation >muh its just the same sound for 10 minutes >muh im bored already >not real music >wheres the song? i guess its an aquired taste
Adam Turner
listen to laughing stock on low volume and thats as close as you'll get either that or just listen to shoegaze or soft jazz on low volume, user
It's not that hard to imagine seeking out music that creates an atmosphere, sets a mood, isn't intrusive and/or can work as background music

I'm only 18 so it probably explains my confusion. Best album to start with?
Ian Bailey
The album in the OP is probably a good place. I started out with stuff that could be seen either as more immersive or more boring, like Steve Roach (check out Structures from Silence for instance) Brian Eno (check out ambient 1, 4 or apollo) and Stars of the Lid (check out music for nitrous oxide) are two other classic ambient artists
Jace Adams
Grouper's AIA is another p guud start and Pausal's Lapses is a good one if youre interested in softer drones
