So Tough is a great album. underrated. Sweet Insanity is incredible. Better than BW 88 imo, even with the Landy lyrics

Mike gets a lot of flack but he's an important member of the group and has contributed a lot of great stuff. I don't think he's a terrible guy overall.

I like that pic. I read in an interview somewhere where the interviewer was interviewing Mike and his wife recently and they were eating quinoa burgers (he's been vegetarian since the late 60s, i believe) and it made me want to try making some burgers myself - they were pretty good

I have! The smile sessions definitely has some more stripped down moments. I love listening to those and some of the demos to hear the songs as they were written, more or less.

I like both of those songs, but I prefer Life of a Tree because I think it fits more in the scope of the album.

I don't know how that happened desu, I guess he would've worked out some better lyrics if given more time, or if Love's lyrics didn't turn out good.

Also why didn't Asher contribute to any more songs? I love his style of lyrics in Pet Sounds, they're sincere, heartfelt and also very direct.

I think that was mostly Brian. He told asher what he wanted each song to be about, Asher just picked the words.

Yeah, probably, but I like the way that he picked words. I love things like having a chorus that's literally "sometimes I feel very sad", no wordplay, no irony, no words wasted, just straight to the point of Brian's feelings. They aren't cliche lyrics, too, as some of their earlier and most of their later material would be.

Some of my favorite lines:

And really the best thing about the album isn't the production or the melodies or harmonies on their own, it's the amazing ability Brian had to tie the music to the meaning of the lyrics. The chord changes on every song support the meaning of the lyrics so perfectly
