Case in point: I had an English class in college, where we had to write a paper in reply to feminist stories that were read in class (Story of an Hour). I followed the rules, and I wrote against the perspective of feminism: I more or less argued how she traded a husband for a boss, how it's the absurd fallacy of the feminists to claim that there is a better job than developing life (being a mother).
The liberal feminist teacher (who happened to be a Jewess) failed me with the excuse "this isn't the place to push your politics."
But, if I'd wrote in advocacy of feminism, if I'd agreed with the stories and how wonderful it was for the woman in the story to escape her husband, all of her "possibilities", suddenly it is no longer a political pushing in my writing, but "critical analysis."
College is a compliance test with the status quo, as are job interviews, as are most things. That gets more to the meat of OP and my own post I reply to.
