What's the point of having religion if you can just ask for forgiveness when you break the rules?

What's the point of having religion if you can just ask for forgiveness when you break the rules?

The difference my good goy is quite simple.

You had no right to approach God for forgiveness.

Fucking catholic indulgences...

Even murderers go to Heaven if they repent and accept the Lord Jesus Christ into their heart

sound logic desu.

He is testing and tempting God. To be forgiven, he has to truly mean it and regret his actions, learning from his mistakes, hopefully give the bike back, if it's still possible. Forgiveness is not a blanco check to do stupid shit and get away with it.

What's the point of having religion at all?

Science has dismissed all claims of paranormal phenomena

forgiveness is NOT a blank check but Sup Forums will reply to this thread anyway

Well there's no point to the universe so what's the point to anything?

If it offers people peace of mind, or comfort it makes no difference.

Objectively speaking, nothing

People just choose or create something for themselves to hold onto so they don't kill themselves

>Science has dismissed all claims of paranormal phenomena
>+90% of the Universe undetected and based on a mathematical gimmick to preserve the framework in which the observations are explained
>can be taken seriously as having explained the Universe in all its completeness

Then Science is the most hypocritical methodology that fails to practice what it preaches.

Do you even know what the word means?

Well, where do the laws of physic come from? And if they are just there, why can't a god be just there.

bretty smart hans never heard that one before

Key difference between science and religion is that science accepts that we only have the best possible MODEL for right now, and it's necessary to change it as new data comes in.

Religion comes down to "Our ancient book has all the truth we need and we must NEVER question it"

>he has to truly mean it

So I guess being a sociopath isn't all that bad eh

>2016
>Believes in god

of course there is a god. one billion muslims can`t be wrong. convert today, atheists.

It's the domino argument, everything we know has some cause, some origin, things don't just appear or happen. So if we trace back everything to the big bang, we have to ask ourselves why there was a big bang, why is there energy and what caused all of this. If there was a god, where did he come from? That's the counter argument. But if we accept that something not natural, so rather supernatural had to begin everything, we can easily accept that this supernatural may have had an intelligence, because it may have made the decision to begin everything.

get back to your fedora chamber

>. But if we accept that something not natural, so rather supernatural had to begin everything, we can easily accept that this supernatural may have had an intelligence,
And that's the problem with religion, you just keep inventing shit as you go. First it's unknown deity, 5 minutes later you know what it wants and why.

>accepts the best possible the model for right now
And executes it as Law (as you have just done) when reality could not be further from it.

Ultimately Science is a process of discovery not an application of Law. If you wish to apply discovery as Law you had better have extraordinary evidence to do so (of which there is none).

Claiming you understand the Universe in its entirety with scraps of evidence and speculation (that is effectively what Science does when it preaches multiverses) is by definition faith and therefore religion.

Not science.

exactly . forgiveness removes all accountability and is therefor flawed. its even worse in religion in which god is the one people apologize to and the one who gets to accept or reject the apology

very inconsiderate of Mr.iam

My God will make everything better

We can assume that a supernatural deity has the power to speak to people, so they can choose to live in God's way, while still having a free will and the benefit of the doubt. Geniune belief, trust and love wouldn't work, if you had no choice.

It's not about "rules". It's not about sin, even.

Let's imagine God is a being with infinite virtue, and all humans have finite virtue. A guy who rapes children has less virtue than a guy who doesn't, but which of them is more god-like? Which is closer to God? They are EQUALLY god-like, because God's virtue is infinite. You are exactly as worthy of salvation as a rapist. You are exactly as worthy of salvation as a saint. A saintly pagan like Mahatma Ghandi is burning in Hell while a murderous thug like Juan Martin Garcia is in heaven with Christ. Why? Because when God offered them both salvation one accepted and the other did not.

It's not even about "forgiveness". You are ALREADY forgiven. You just have to ACCEPT the forgiveness. It is not up to God anymore, he has already opened the door for EACH of us. The decision is entirely YOURS.

A note: God will also forgive DOUBT. "Agnostic" Christians who accept Christ's gift of salvation WILL be saved even if they are skeptical of His divinity.

So why are we good? Why don't Christians rape and murder knowing we can do so and still live forever in Christ? The same reason atheists, in general, don't do those things. At the end of the day an atheist and a Christian have exactly the same motivation for doing right and doing wrong, neither of their outcomes will differ based on those actions.
