I'm not too worried because theres not much I can do, but does anyone have any stories?

I'm in the military and got my TS about 7 or 8 years ago. Trying to remember what all was checked... most of the paperwork involved just filling out addresses and phone numbers to basically every place I've ever worked or lived and three close non family friends who would vouch for me. What they are really concerned about is how much debt you have. Being in questionable debt (more than car and mortgage), bankruptcy, and having bill collectors after you will get you denied. You also have to disclose all law infractions as well as any and all contact with foreign nationals. If it's on a record or a database somewhere, they will find out, so telling truth is better than lying.
Its called a single scope background investigation and it is the most invasive thing you could have done to you save for getting a hand in your ass. They will investigate your criminal history, employment history, credit, education and online profile. They interview teachers, employers, friends and family over the course of several months, and conduct several interviews (interrogations) with you. It is not a pleasant experience. However, you must have reason to have a security clearance, and most employers wont provide reason for its employees unless they are an exceptional circumstance. Most employers require a security clearance from prior government or military service.
They mostly focus on your legal, financial and employment histories to make sure you don't have any significantly compromising events like an uncle in Al Nusra or crippling debt. Unless you've got a thick file in the FBI database, you're probably fine.

My brother got TS clearance a little over 6 years ago and I'm the only one the feds didn't interview in my family. I wondered if it's because brothers will cover for each other or because I've been here forever.

Theyll interview you and go back about 12 years interview your friends and family potentially. Theyre not going to look at your internet history theyre more concerned with debt, vices, and forgeign relations. Having 30k in debt a gambling problem or going to china for prostitutes every 3 years are wayy worse than posting gas the kikes on the internet.

when my dad was getting interviewed for his security clearance they asked him if he had done any illegal drugs. he said he had smoked a joint 38 years ago. they asked him who was with him when he did it.
Thats how i was coached. Just tell the truth you can't be prosecuted but if you lie you could be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. If they ask about drugs and fringe orgs then just tell them.

I can't answer for how the process is in the us to get a clearance, I only know about it here. Porn they don't care about. Generally you should just be anonymous on the net, no fb, twitter etc in your own name, regardless of clearance or not.
Like here if you did smoke pot as a teenager or did some stupid shit, you can still be cleared if that shit is long gone. But stupid as it is yes, smoke weed and be the best engineer in the world and you won't get clearance to work on the cool fields in ie Kongsberg gruppen, FFI or IFE. where stuff kinda happens here

I got a low level clearance for my software grunt job at a military contractor. Drug test and background check went just fine.
Places like Sup Forums might be an issue in higher levels though
I would look at your financial. Since you'll be dealing with very expensive information.
I can't imagine having any problems with financial or legal background, I was arrested once as a kid for fucking toliet papering, and I dont even have student loans, no debt ever.

The hardest part about this is finding a job who will pay for your TS to begin with. Usually companies or the Gov't will find someone with the right TS and train them up instead of paying for the TS. It's that time consuming and expensive.
