Name a better, more interesting, complex, and/or technically accomplished drummer than Damon Che of Don Caballero.
Couldn't do it, could you? Damon Che is the greatest drummer ever made

>inb4 some faggot feeds you a line about a jazz drummer
Bullshit. Don Cab is far more complex and inventive within one song than any jazz drummer is throughout any entire album. Jazz is a meme and can't hold a candle to Che. I find it hard to believe a jazz drummer could change time signatures as fast as Che could.
...
What did he mean by this
Antonio Sanchez
Was he a gay?
Are you fucking serious with that retardation? The fucking Birdman guy? Kill yourself for even suggesting an affirmative action drummer like him.
lol you've only ever heard hard bop from the 50's haven't you?
Any idiot can practice and learn some crazy time sig beats. It's all muscle memory.
It takes a real musician to improvise and react in the moment.
So your standard for good music is musicians doing what you perceive to be harder? Improvisation is all muscle memory as well. Do you know how people train to be good at improvisation? Do you know anything about improvisation?
>So your standard for good music is musicians doing what you perceive to be harder?
Read your OP post again.
>Improvisation is all muscle memory as well.
No.
>Do you know how people train to be good at improvisation?
Yes.
>Do you know anything about improvisation?
Yes.
That's great drumming. I've heard more than enough jazz in my life that I don't care to hear anymore, but I really enjoy what I'm hearing.
>tfw you realize OP is a retard
I heard that he's a little fond of chiffon in a wrist array
Dave Grohl
Antonio Sanchez is a genius drummer. His nuance and control is unbelievable. Eric Harland is probably the only other drummer who might be his equal.
I'm really not interested in your nothing opinion. Make a point or talk about a drummer. Your whiny bullshit about how I need to respect improvisation is tiring and banal. I'm not convinced you have one clue about why you personally believe that improvisation is so unbelievably amazing that any drummer who plays jazz is beyond reproach.
But it sure seems like you're shitposting for no reason. You get one more chance to not be a low content posting prick.
"ok"

More Antonio Sanchez
>any drummer who plays jazz is beyond reproach.
Not what I said at all.
The technique, skill, and creativity it takes to improvise fluidly is far beyond anything it takes to simply learn a pre-composed piece by heart. No competent musician will disagree with that.
different guy, but WHO do you think is/ are the best drummer/s?
When it comes to Rock music? Easy. Chris Cutler and then Jaki Liebezeit. Mo Tucker is also reasonable.
You can go back to re.ddit right now
Neil Peart.
Sue me.
Elvin Jones
Tony Williams

Billy Hart

i wonder what a good drummer thread on moo would be?
that guy from birdman comes to my mind
Unironically this
>all the literal whos itt
zach hill vs damon che
then someone who just watched whiplash says Buddy Rich
then summer fags say Rush guy or Tool guy
and then Battles guy chimes in straight from reading p4k reviews
then Todd says TIME MACHINE MODULUS
basically this thread unironically
I like Don Cab a lot (especially when Ian Williams was in the band) and have seen them live multiple times in the 90s. They were one of my favorite bands in the 90s and I've worn out my WBNR and II CDs from playing them so much. Damon's a very interesting drummer - his greatest asset is his imagination and daring to build near-melodic structures from his drumiming.
But you are extremely naive and ignorant in believing that he is more technically accomplished than literally hundreds if not thousands of of professional drummers. Just because guys like Vinny Coliauta, Bernard Purdie, Porcaro, Steve Gadd, Tony Williams, Ansley Dunbar, etc, etc, etc. chose to play more traditional roles as drummers doesn't meant they couldn't drum circles around Damon -- they could, I assure you. Damon has trouble keeping time. Fact. Part of that is because he is a drug fiend and alcoholic. Damon also overuses his cymbols to an degree that eventually turned me off of his drumming quite a bit.
Don't be daft. Don Cab's awesome for a lot of reasons, but you are making a fool of yourself by making these claims regarding Damon.
Can do anything Che can do better
Brian Chippendale is my drumfu.
fug
Any drummer who bleeds all over their kit because of their shit technique isn't a good drummer. Only morons who watched Whiplash think this.
lolz supreme
fairly certain that's zack hill
the only one who makes bleeding acceptable
Benny Greb
>Don Caballero
>Not just a bunch of dumb time signatures with reallyfucking pathetic guitar work ontop
>Not just a musician doing something they perceive to be "harder" to show off
really makes u think
>falling for the style over substance meme
lol damon looks autistic as fuck
>Don Caballero
Which albums should i listen to first?
seconding this, my interest is piqued
He's a great drummer. Such a spiritualist too. Hope he's doing well
You already answered your own question. It's Zach Hill.
Buddy Rich and Greg Fox also would've been acceptable answers.
He's a chopmeister. He also most definitely has a strong hand in creating the pretty sweet grooves across the whole DG discography. But I haven't seen him play anything but chops, and there aren't that many videos of him out there. Sure, there are live DG videos, but he just literally sheds for an hour while the songs play.
why dont drummers just wear gloves to prevent this?
Somebody else mentioned this but you would have to have seriously bad technique to start bleeding, or just hit your finger on the rim/hardware of the snare drum by accident (more likely cause)
damon che is one of the best of all time but he's not THE best. above him i'd put zach hill, tony williams, , and for my tastes, greg saunier and brian chippendale
oh yeah and me
checked. gloves are gay af
checked. if a drummer gets blisters that pop and bleed it's shit technique
checked. this is what happens, at least to me, if your drums are low (like damon che's snare, good god) it's especially likely - youre going for power over practicality at that point
Zh doesnt really groove
hes great, but not really a groover
Agreed OP. He's pretty fuckin' good.
dafuq you know about technique?
i use cool black soft stick tape.
wew lad
Why would you do something like that, I will fucking kill you dude
What's the Don Cabellero? I've heard they're a mathematical rock group though not much else, do they have Zack Hill? He's like the greatest drummer ever.
ZHIDF out in full force tonight I see
>muh improvisation
Only hacks obsess over that bullshit
jazz is truly the most liberated and creative music there is.
enjoy your memelife and memeknowledge.
>liberated
doot doot skibbity bop mmmm hhhhmmmm shabalam doooooot doot do doo do doot ping pingang ping bing ding doooooooo come here bitch doo doo do doo dooooo ping bwaa bwa bwa bwa bwaa bwaawawawaaaaa

/thread
Fucking trash human being. I know this is bait, but I'd kill him if I could get away with it.
Moe Tucker
lol why
He got big because he used his friends death for publicity. Every band he's been with has thoroughly hated the guy because he's a dick. He's average at everything but thinks he's got godly talent. The list is endless.
Carl Palmer is god
How do I git gud?
practice 5+ hours a day
I guess I'm never gonna make it
Pete Sandoval
Hellhammer
Gene Hoglan
Mark Guiliana, Eric Harland, Matt Gartska, Vinnie Colaiuta,
Dave Weckl, Dan Mayo, Nate Smith, Jojo Mayer, Benny Greb
Tomas Haake.
...
Trym is better than Hellhammer
>Any idiot can practice and learn some crazy time sig beats. It's all muscle memory.
you can say this about anything you dolt
doesn't mean it isn't impressive or it isn't something that requires a fuckton of practice
>this guy
>better than any drummer that ever played with steely dan
Bernard Purdie
Steve Gadd
Rick Marotta
Jim Keltner
Better, more interesting; Gavin Harrison, Danny Carey, Tomas Haake
More complex; Gavin Harrison, Danny Carey, Mike Portnoy, Tomas Haake, Mike Mangini
More technically accomplished is always Mike Mangini. His playing isn't really all that interesting or anything, but the guy shits on every other drummer alive in terms of technical skills.
this guy knows what's up
more than you, apparently
American Don git gud scrub
...
The point is this:
Give any decent modern jazz drummer a week to learn some "complex math rock" tunesand they'd do it very easily and be able to play it almost indistinguishable from the math rock drummer (though they'd probably play it cleaner desu).
Give the math rock drummer a week to prepare to sit in with a modern post-bop group and play a few tunes and the result would almost definitely be laughable.
Oh yeah?
Billy camden
True for shit tier drummers
A good drummer just drums anything you want just give him the sheet.
This is who we share this board with...
Fuck drums and fuck don cab. No one unironically wants to listen to drummer worship. Which is why hella will always be the better band.
>portnoy
>manginy
>complex
No, just technical.
Klaus Schulze would've been the greatest drummer of all time if he didn't get such a hardon for ambient.

No objection to this
Also Bruford
