The plebiscite will be on October this year, and I'd like to hear an honest opinion on this matter. I've seen quite a big number of southern Brazilians on Sup Forums, Reddit and overall throughout the internet avidly supporting this. The first referendum they performed about 10 years ago had over 70% approval and it wasn't even that popular.
I'm from Minas Gerais and I've read through everything on that website, and I fully understand their reasons. Still, I honestly don't have a solid opinion on this, and I generally prefer the country the way it is, but if they want to achieve it democratically and the majority wants it, there isn't much that can be done to prevent it from happening eventually.

One thing I always consider is, if they become independent, our cultures will be detached, very much like Uruguay is to Rio Grande do Sul: started as a single group of people, but they were detached once Uruguay was founded, despite both being originally Gaúchos. And seeing RS today they're really one of a kind, and I might actually support them, although I can't find enough reasons to support the south as a whole to secede.
Is there really no better way to settle this without secession? What if we tried adopting the federative model of Russia and the United States by giving each state more autonomy?
I'm not remotely surprised by this. The three of you have been historic allies since the Cisplatine, which is why I understand the cause for Rio Grande do Sul.
I'm not a southern Brazilian. And that would probably never happen, they're overwhelmingly religious and close-knit. There was a small but recent immigration of northern Brazilians to the south and they actually wrote a letter to the federal government that if this continued they would "appeal to force". Apparently most of them left to the southeast.
