The issue is that the media doesn't report on this stuff. And when they do, they cover up and make excuses. Oh, the problem with venezuela wasn't anything to do with their socialist planned economy. It was because muh oil prices dropped and there's a drought. But nobody talks about the underlying fundamental issue of why such fluctuations can cause a country to go full fucking Mad Max.

Everyone blames socialism but the main problem in venezuela is actually corruption. It wouldn't be functioning so badly if the people in charge were actually capable people and not just friends of the government. It's pathetic that a nation so rich in oil can be doing so badly.

Well, socialism will make people's lives miserable, but between the fixed various exchange rates and price controls is what did it. Foreign currency was only given to people at the best exchange rate if you were in on it with Chavez. The price controls on goods just good any incentive for production as they could never make money.
