Another episode in bizzaro Iran:

Rouhani declares ''the people have had enough of those that murdered, executed and imprisoned them for 38 years''

Of course he forgets he did it as well, but regardless this is another attack on Khamenei and his clique, the 2nd after Rouhani declared that ''censorship is pushed by those above'' and that he is against it.

interesting times in Iran.

What is MENA's thoughts on the new trial board?

My exam for today went more than okay

What exam?

Politicians will be politicians. Does the ayatollah ever directly interfere or something with an election? It sounds like Rouhani is betting on it not happening at least.

he doesn't endorse anyone officially.

Only time he did was when Ahmadinejad ran against Rasfanjani. Khamenei really hated Rasfanjani bu he has no love for Ahmadinejad, proved by him denying him to run in these elections and numerous ''interventions'' during his presidency.

But he has attacked Rouhani a bit nowadays. Criticizing his policies, especially on the Nuke deal and Syria.

Syria is the growing divide. Rouhani fears getting bogged there and has said numerous times they should send just medical staff.

Khamenei sees Syria as vital, he believes that if Assad goes, the regime in Tehran could crumble.

He has given Soleimani free reign, and he has unleashed dozens and dozens of sectarian militias from all over the world into Syria. Trying to redo the Hezbollah card.

Shias from Afghanistan, Pakistan...etc are fighting in Syria for money and even the promise of Iranian citizenship.

On another thing, Rouhani didn' mention Khamenei by name but did warn the Revolutionary Guards, allies of Khamenei, not to dare intervene in the ''democratic'' process.

Agreed.

but these dictatorships aren't like China's.

The so-called ''secular'' dictatorships are also nothing but neo-liberal conservative shitholes pandering to the islamists.

The Shah's regime let Rasfanjani and his ilk spread their ideology while socialists, commies and republicans got persecuted and jailed.

Same in Egypt. Sedat empowered the religious nuts and opressed the Nasserits

Sissi does the same, by opressing secularists, human rights activists...etc

>our message is clear. House arrest must end''
they mean Mousavi and Karubi most likely.

Rouhani has had part of only these sorts of rallies, while Raisi had very friendly and large crowds.

This is why he is attacking Khamenei. The ''reformist'' part of his electorate is keeping him hostage and he knows if they stay at home, no amount of voter fraud will give him victory.

Shit longest nap I've ever taken. Gotta study for next test.

great now pro-Rouhani journalists get arrested.
Mayor of Tehran was attacked for disagreeing with the Syrian intervention.

good God, things are not good. Without Rasfanjani, Rouhani has become more combatant, trying to look strong and confident.

Iran TV censors Rouhani documentary ahead of elections

Rouhani says ''conservatives'' try to turn the judiciary in a ''house of lies''

lord no. i want to talk to other /mena/s not burgers

Eh, it gives me a view in/on the Iranian election I wouldn't get otherwise. Also reading up on wiki
>President Rouhani's ally and first vice president Eshaq Jahangiri is standing in the election to support him during the campaign and in TV debates, being called as a ‘fender’ or ‘cover candidate’ by Iranian media, and will possibly later withdraw in support of the incumbent president.

Interesting. Wiki also states that though conservatives wanted a united front, they failed to bring on. Also, is there a "clear favourite" in successor to Khamenei, I mean he is 77, it must be on the minds of people, even if not overtly.

Interesting thing i saw. Pro-Rouhani ad and his minister speaks Arabic. Trying to fish those Arab voters

aren't these languages supressed? My mother told me they banned Azeri.

debates about succesion has started already. They are still shy, but it has started.

As for Jahangiri, he is there only to attack Ghalibaf and Raisi and not let those 2 to gang-bang on Rouhani.

Ironically though I thought he was very good in the debates

If Raisi wins then he's very likely going to succeed Khamenei when he dies.

The election is pretty much Rouhani vs Raisi, it's tough to see who's going to win.

It's a pity there's no major interest in it from the west, wouldn't have minded watching a subbed version of the debates to get more insight. My farsi is still just very basic.

rumours that Raisi might drop out if he doesn't get ''stronger''

looks like the people mobilizing those crowds of his are angry at him.

funny thing Raisi attacked Rouhani very few times. His stronger attack was ''why are there millions of youth, unemployed''

he is very ''weak''. Ghalibaf expresses respect much better.

Is Raisi a fake candidate or did they not vet him properly?

Regardless, another sign of the lessening influence of the Mullahs, Ghalibaf and the Revolutionary Guards picking the banner.

Within 10-15 years they'll be stronger then all the Mullahs together if their not stopped.

A friend i follow on twitter says Ghalibaf looks like Rouhanis main adversary. Opinions?

Agree though Raisi if he wins will replace Khamenei. But if he loses?

the next SP election will be weird. The IRGC wil have a stronger say then even the Mullahs and other ''experts on Islam''

Ghalibaf is a joke though, he has no real policy, in 12 years of being the mayor of Tehran he's accomplished pretty much nothing, he tried running for president twice so far and lost both times.

Rural village retards will vote for Raisi just because he is a Seyyed, it's really down to whether most of Rouhani's supporters still believe in him or not.

mine as well. Watching them alone without mother was a fucking nightmare

add to that that I can barely read the Arabic script...

Boris Johnson was a joke too, and initially people considered trump one too. Beware the jokes.

>Rural village retards will vote for Raisi just because he is a Seyyed,
true. sad but true.

I think that's why they chose him. He checks every ''box'' so to say.

But I still see him as to weak to become SL, perhaps the post will lose power and influence.

> to whether most of Rouhani's supporters still believe in him or not.

true. I think he knows it. Looked at some videos I posted. That's why he is much more combatant then before.

But will the people believe him? Or will they think he is just pretending...

Will see, lets hope he speaks honestly. But even what can he do if Khamenei blocks him.

I don't mean a joke as in acting outrageous, I mean "joke" as in he literally has no policy and has literally not accomplished a single thing. He brings nothing to the table, Rouhani at least has proven that he was able to fix Iran's deteriorating economy.

The fact that he ran for president twice and lost both times should have clued him in that very few people would vote for him.

>Looked at some videos I posted. That's why he is much more combatant then before

The videos are nice, I think he's trying to pull an Ahmadinejad to some extent and trying to build a psedo-personality cult around himself as the face of the "modern reformists".

The issue is that a lot of people blame Rouhani for not magically fixing the economy in the past 4 years, the problem is Rouhani promised too much to his voters in 2013. That being said he did do quite a good job, reducing inflation from 40% down to 9%, as well as the nuclear deal (which is still controversial in itself, even now).

>But even what can he do if Khamenei blocks him

I doubt he will, unless Rouhani truly oversteps his boundaries, he's too big of a political figure to do so without any justification.

What is the general Iranian opinion on the nuclear deal btw? As random foreigner, I'm in favour of it, believing that countries generally should be allowed a nuclear power policy. As for the weapons, I think Pakistan/India is the more worrisome nuclear case, and nobody seemed to bat an eye there. (Or at least I was never shown such a thing in history class)

My biggest fear is the Revolutionary Guards taking over. The SL means less and less every passing year.
They already had some ''fights'' with the Army insulting one another.

There was a time when Mullahs made 70% of the parliament, now they are less than 30%

Do you have any idea how the army views things?
My father called them ''the silent giant'' they will never intervene he said.

>The issue is that a lot of people blame Rouhani for not magically fixing the economy in the past 4 years

I think he promised to much, concerning the nuke deal and it's benefits, he made people hope for to much.

now reality sets in.

still agree, he fixed a lit. Could've done even more but after 8 years of Ahmadinejad i'm happy with what i can get.

anyway Rouhani declaring the IRGC tried to
actively sabotage the nuke deal won't please them.

Rouhani is making dangerous enemies.

Do you guys plan to move back to Iran at some point btw, or only if a certain political climate is reached?

>What is the general Iranian opinion on the nuclear deal btw

From what I've seen, it's becoming quite polarized.

I think support for the deal has dropped since Trump came into power, there is a real sense of "we signed away our only defense against America" type of thinking. Furthermore, Rouhani promised too much in the realm of economic benefits, people legitimately thought that their standard of living would become like twice as good after the lifting of the sanctions, that unemployment would completely end, etc.

My estimate at this point is 40% support 60% against, and that's an optimistic one. Of course, nobody is willing to actually break the deal after it's been signed.

Revolutionary Guards will only openly intervene if they believe their power is threatened. Otherwise, they tend to stay in the shadows.

Because they derive their legitimacy from the revolutionary ideology, they can't openly go against the clerics or the supreme leader.

True, sadly there are still some rural retards who practically worship Ahmadinejad, since he pretty much gave free money to them through his "oil wealth sharing" nonsense.

Rouhani is doing a good job imo, he managed to reverse the economic decline and brought inflation down to single-digit levels, unfucking the economy takes time.

A good insight in Rouhanis thinking by a journalist

'''Over the weekend, Rouhani visited a coal mine where an explosion killed 42 workers. The miners kicked and beat the car carrying the president, in damaging footage broadcast by local news agencies.

“The visit may have been a shocking revelation for Rouhani, who might be losing popularity within the working class,” Akbari said.

Rouhani’s fresh focus on political and social freedoms suggests an attempt to deflect the criticism, while burnishing his pro-reform credentials to an increasingly youthful electorate.

“Our youth have chosen the path of freedom. You cannot prevent the progress and freedom of our youth,” Rouhani said at a rally Monday in the city of Hamedan, according to the official Islamic Republic News Agency.''''

I agree with it. Rouhani is losing the poor, rural people. and tries to win over the young reformists.

>Do you guys plan to move back to Iran at some point btw, or only if a certain political climate is reached

I've visited multiple times over the past 10 years, I do miss Iran somewhat, but I don't think I'll move back until the time where I won't be executed for being an apostate.

Either that or if Canada suddenly goes far-right nationalist.

>gave free money to them through his "oil wealth sharing" nonsense.
lmao you saw his twitter feed?

he was praising Chavez. LMAO

no reason to move now. But I always said, when the current regime changes or morphs in a true democracy i'll go there to rebuild.

also there's no moving ''back'' for me. I was born outside Iran and never been to it.
