Ask a Blackjack Dealer anything

Card

How often do boomers reference "Casino" when they win a few hands in a row?

hit me

You actually can't hit a natural blackjack, your hand is dead after that.
people reference it all the time, it gets tiring. how many times I have been told to shove the card up my sister's ass is exhausting

bump

If you suspect someone is cheating what do you do? Does security really work them over?

I like to double down on 11s and 12s. Is that good? And I'm of the opinion that it's a little easier to win money with multiple players that just you and the dealer. Is that so?

What's the most annoying thing people do?

How do I win more often?

How much money do you make?

Cheating is hard in a game where you never tocuh the cards (in my casino, in others you can, different rules) Like if I suspect card counting, I signal the cameras and the pit boss. then they take care of it from there.
Doubling down on 11 is always the best idea except when dealer has an Ace. on a 12 you should usually hit unless the dealer has like a 4-6. With more players, you see more cards and can "guess" if you have better or worse odds to get a card you need. So I would agree that more players can give you better luck. But if they aren't playing the same strategy as you, a wild hit or stay could mess your hand up

Do things they aren't suppose to do. Touch the cards, mess with their bet after dealing has started; stuff like that is aggruivating
Learn the basic strategy and how to count cards without getting noticed
I make about $11 an hour before tips

Is it possible to win more without counting cards?

Have you ever put butter on a pop tart?

Have you seen people counting cards

How do you signal

is your casino owned by mafia or some other type of criminals?

not counting luck, not really. Without learning to count, just play the basic strategy
I have. I did it on a strawberry one, it was alright
All the time. Most of them do it wrong, so I dont even alert anyone. But probably once a week someone will come in and know what they are doing. I usually let them have their fun for 30-40 minutes and then I alert

Not OP but
If you're not using a mechanical device, counting is absolutely legal and permissible. The worst that can rightly happen in those cases is getting b& from blackjack and maybe getting your face put on an advantage players list.

11 yes, 12 no

Memorize Pic related and don't play games with bad rules
>never play where insurance pays 6:5
>never play where dealer hits on soft 17
>never play where cards are shuffled after every deal

>counting
How do you notice counters? Don't the cameras automatically detect advantage play anyway?

The signal is usually on the left side of the column. Down to signal left and up for right.

What's the most tip you got in one night

Nope, it has a "council" that has a bunch of indians on it, but a bunch of rich white guys actually run it
I have a few. It could be how I call out change, or when I shuffle and cut, I have a few hand tells.

Do u enjoy being a cheating cunt?

Ever fucked a hot player in exchange for good cards?

How do you handle belligerent players? I'm sure you get drunk idiots in there

Our cameras dont have that tech, but people who aren't paying attention to anything other than cards is a dead give away. There is constant distraction in a casino, so someone who gives in to none of it is pretty clear sign.

If you are banned from our casino, we send the picture to every casino within a 3 hour drive of ours
1k. Playing 1k-5k high roller hands. Guy made $58k in about 2 hours

Not my money, not my game. Just the cards
Nah, I have been offered services but I can't change the cards
I usually just are pretty blunt with them.. If they have a handler with them, I will talk to them directly. And if they dont want to listen and cooperate, then security will take care of that for me

got a good link for basic blackjack strategy online that will help me make money?

what happens when a tard sits down and starts playing. like a legit sub-50 iq tard

OP i'm a college grad (doesn't mean shit now a days) with a passion for poker and everything to do with casinos.

If I move out to Vegas and start dealing blackjack/poker do you think i'll burn out and hate it? I honestly find it fascinating and want to quit my job take my measly savings and ride my motorcycle out to vegas to take classes on being a dealer.

Few questions

1) I've heard many dealers say the job sucks because you deal with degens a lot and also people who are just fools with money (hitting a 16 on 3rd base vs a dealer's 6 showing) etc, et al

Is there any truth to this?

2) I've counted cards a few times and seen how it works and how profitable it can be. Everytime I seem to get a good streak going I feel like they hassle me for a casino club card or ask me if I want anything comped etc more often when i'm counting than when i'm not. Is this a subtle "fuck you stop counting" or am I just paranoid? Always stopped within reason and never seen security or anything behind me.

Thx for doing this AMA!

What happens to all the cards you throw out?

I dont, but I know there are tons out there. Just look for any blackjack training software that will let you know when you fucked up an dhow to change that, but basic strategy is the first step
Has nothing to do with me, I can only suggest plays. Have has people hit a hard 18 before, i'm not going to stop them
1) For me, the fun of the job hasn't worn out yet, been doing it about 7 years. If you love the game and love being around people, you will like being a dealer.

2) It is a subtle "fuck you, stop that". the players card is so they have all your info and such. They just want you to walk away. Once they are onto you like that, good pit bosses will give you a chance to walk away before you are kicked out. Play a few more hands and be on your way

Ever stuck a few chips in your pocket when nobody is looking?

they are usual whole punched and sold in the gift shop. We go threw hundreds of decks a month

its a casino, you can't do anything without anyone looking.
Happens all the time though. They will usually let you take more than $3500 over time so they can charge you with a felony

Have you ever met any good hookers while working?

Not many hookers in my casino, they are usually run off by security

I always notice they reshuffle the deck when my strategy works too well. Do they think I'm counting?

When I'm counting I notice this little fucker in a black suit and glasses come and stand behind me, is there a reason?

Maybe, but the shuffling usually happens when the cut card comes up, its not a decision thing
Could be secruity, could be a fellow counter seeing how well your counting is going

Anyone ever got really aggressive and accused you of cheating and thrown a glass of whisky as you?

>Could be secruity, could be a fellow counter seeing how well your counting is going
Its a cooler. Everybody knows you can't count when you're aware of some guy staring holes in your back.

How does she not have a single dislike?

How many licks does it take to reach the center of a tootsie pop?

I have had things thrown at me, but they are usually met with 400 pound security guards
Could be, but great counters, can do it while making jokes and being cheerful
only has 3k views, meh
More than I have time to count

Never heard of a cooler but it makes sense cos it fuckin freaked me out and I lost my count totally

have you ever poopsmoked butthash?

>Could be, but great counters, can do it while making jokes and being cheerful
Theres a difference between great counters and people who think they're counting. People who can effectively count deep into a five deck shoe are one in a million. Which is why they have a cut-card, BTW. Because it leaves the last third (give or take) unexplored. Counting only works at the end of the shoe, it is pointless at the beginning, but must be done for the system to work.

Card counter here. AMA.

I have a question. I know the rules for dealers are that if your hand is less than 17 you have to hit but what happens if it is more than 17? Do you randomly hit or stay or do you try to win?
Also can both parties stay like the dealer is over 17 and stays and the gambler also decided to stay. What happens then?

Surely you don't use hi-lo?

You're making counting sound much harder than it is. The hardest part of it is keeping track of your count while being distracted. As for how many decks are being played, as long as you're not up against a continuous shuffler you could count 20 decks accurately.

What do you think of Phil Ivey and the Borgata situation? I honestly think he got freerolled.

Why are you a rat? What do you gain by stopping people from counting?

Hi-lo is a great system for lower money players like myself. It is simple, easy to keep up with and as long as you can keep your bets in check, you will leave with a profit.

stfu

Come on, man. Thats just totally untrue. More decks equals harder. I just saw a video of a guy who memorized Pi to 17,000 decimals and it got him into the Guinness book. Twenty decks is 1040 cards. Keeping a running tally of undealt cards over 250 is not something most people can do with any amount of practice. If you're lucky you'll remember how many aces are left. Most people just count the face cards and still straight-up gamble on a "phone number" hand.

Are you Jack black

i suck at cards

The running count isn't what matters, man. Counting isn't an exact science, anyway. What matters is the true count. That's where you take your rubbing count and divide it by how many decks are left to be played. The easiest way to do that is to sit at 3rd base (which you should be doing if you're counting) look at the discard pile and estimate how many decks have been played. Take your running count, divide by how many decks are left to get your true count. The higher your true count is over two, the more you bet.
