Brand New release album out of nowhere

>Brand New release album out of nowhere
>Mastodon announce a 2nd album for this year
>King Gizzard surprise release 3rd album of the year

Where were you when you realized that 2017 became the best year in music since 2007?

brand new sucks
mastodon hasn't been good in a decade
king gizzard dropped the ball on motu and has always been a very hit or miss band from record to record

none of those three bands are indicative of this being a good year for music.

however, it has been a good year for music
and none of those bands are responsible

inb4 numales complaining at you for not mentioning any pop or rap crap from this year

>Mastodon announce a 2nd album for this year
which will be garbage

>King Gizz
>Mastodon
>Good

hmmm ok den

>not mentioning AOTY
It's okay, you'll probably be memeing it like everyone else once Scaruffi gives it a high score eight months down the road.

"Out of nowhere"

nu-male taste

2016 was the best year in music
2017 sucks ass.

wow what a great year

This has been the worst year for music in recent memory.

This week
>Villians leaked
>New Everything Everything leaked/ released
>Science Fiction released
Been a good week

It's been a year of super underwhelming releases so far, it's be great if the last 4 months were chock-full of awesome albums.

i was content with everything everything being my AOTY and then science fiction comes out of nowhere

Nothing will compare to last year in terms of big mu-core artist releases

new chelsea wolfe > those three

not true by the way

I have to agree with you.
2017 has been so fucking good for new music.
This is the best year for music I can remember in at LEAST a decade.
So many incredible post-rock/math rock releases.
So many incredible hardcore releases.
So many incredible metal releases.
This is the first year that rock music has completely taken my attention away from drum and bass/jungle music... and I can tell you now... I'm fucking obsessed with drum and bass/jungle, so it's no easy feat to beat that shit for me.

There is something for everyone this year desu

>Sun Kil Moon made the experimental music AOTY
>Animal Collective is good again
>new Wire and Faust album that no one are talking about
>QOTSA get produced by Ronson and it isn't a train-wreck
>Kendrick Lamar releases the poppiest rap album of the year
>new DOOM
>new Ariel Pink
>new Godspeed

it certainly is an interesting year for music

>Animal Collective is good again
This too desu

Meeting of the Waters and Eucalyptus were fantastic. Even The Painters was good.

>So many incredible post-rock/math rock releases.

More info on these, please..

Exactly. I just had a surprise bowel movement

2017 is the best year for 2000s bands that have rabid fan bases

Manchester Orchestra put something really impressive out

Yeah, their new one is really good

I agree with this statement.

>>Sun Kil Moon made the experimental music AOTY
Jesus Christ dude...really?

Was it good as Mother of Virtues though? I didn't think so personally :/

I had no hopes for 2017 but it has been really good lately

Oh it's much better than Mother Of Virtues. It's a lot more intense with more erratic structures and even more atonal. Doug's vocals are even more diverse than before while his lows/highs have gotten better, the heavy parts sound heavier, and they were actually able to implement improvisation correctly this time with inventive ways to do it (eg. the part in the final track where the bass/drums are improvising over the guitar playing that one heavy ass riff a third into the track.)

Agree on the final track. It was definitely a step forward.

Do Make Say Think - Stubborn Persistent Illusions.
Valerian Swing - Nights.
Mogwai - Every Country's Sun.
The Physics House Band - Mercury Fountain.
Sleeping At Last - Atlas Space.
Mental Architects - Ascend.

That should keep you going for a while.
All incredible releases.

For sure. But I definitely recommend revisiting the album at some point. It's by far their least accessible with the toughest structures to discern.

I probably will. Thanks bud.
