Sleep is a rest and repair cycle for the body and mind. As a youth, most of your body growth occurs while asleep. This is why newborns sleep so much, they are growing. It's also why there are coma's putting the body into a deep repair cycle. You need your downtime or your body will just collapse.

I average about 4 hours a night for the past 5 years. You'll be fine.

I can actually tell you from experience. I was in the Navy for 5 years. Durring the portion of my enlistment that I spent on a ship I barely slept 4 hours/night.

You go from periods of being semi-functional to being almost like a zoned out zombie. You become extremely impatient and and your attention span goes to completed shit. I had to learn to nap whenever I could sneak away for an hour or so.

Want to know why the Navy is having ships crash onto cargo vessels? It's because nobody is getting enough sleep.

Look into polyphasic sleep. Your body only needs a certain amount of rem sleep, most of your night is wasted.

Clocked in at 5pm got off at 2am, got home and slept till about 7 or 8am as I didn't want to lose my days. Hated the hours but damn I regret quitting as it was the only job I ever had making 17 bucks an hour. Now I only make 9 trimming trees in the hot ass sun but shit I guess I get my nights back...

Lrn to sleep better. I've trained myself to enter rem sleep almost immediately. You only need 2 solid hours of rem sleep in a 24 hour period.
Shit took 4 years but you can do it with training. I'm down to 4 hours I probably won't go any less because it does get risky

You can fully function on 4-5 hours of sleep per night. But youd have to slowly adjust your sleep schedule to get down to that time. You cant just change it overnight, thats how you fuck everything up.
For the past 5 years ive gotten between 4-5 hours of sleep per night and it works for me. Anything more than 6 and im tired when i wake up.

I average about 3-4 hours of sleep a night.
I've been fine for the most part.
Some days I feel a bit like a zombie, but usually I do fine.
Wasn't always like that though.
Took a lot of years of adjustment to be at least kinda functional.

Insomnia is a vicious thing that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemies. Been dealing with it since I turned 13. I end up staying awake for 4-5 days at a time. It gets to the point where I have to heavily sedate myself for a 50/50 chance of me getting some sleep or no sleep. I want to feel alive again.

if you don't sleep enough, your brqin doesn't function that well no more
if you do that for longer, the damage becomes irreversible

if you don't sleep at all, you stsrt hallucinating and eventually die (after 10 days or so)

From experience, i can say that you will feel like utter shit when being forced to wake up at 7:30AM after being asleep only since 3:00AM and that lasts for about 2 hours tops. You also start to lose your mind on the inside while strange desires start looming around your head, which'll only be more persistent and more forceful/encouraging the more often you have that sleeping schedule. Eventually, you'll reach a point where you'll collapse on anything soft and you'd be asleep for about 11 hours, only to wake up again for about 5 minutes before falling asleep again for another 8/9 hours.
