probably my favorite band for road music desu.
10/10 album for serious
Honestly TCW, TMAA, and This is a Long Drive are pretty much 10/10 for me.
everything up to and including bnoos are golden. i fucking love modest mouse
Same for me; though I feel I wouldn't mind more of their newer stuff if I didn't have to compare it with the beginning half of their discography. I personally like Good News despite Float on, though their EP's are still better than it IMO.
Forgot GNFPWLBN
i like we were dead, but i know what you mean. it's hard to listen to new stuff when they have such a good 90s streak.
I was happy with strangers though, gotta admit. a few stand out tracks like pups to dust for me

Honestly Night on the Sun is one of my favorites by them. Everything and His Nasty Parlor tricks is great; probably have it right behind BSOON. I like We were dead and Strangers as well, but where most of their other stuff hovered 7-10 they sit around 6 probably.
make sure you guys listen to Sharpen Your Teeth, it's the lost Modest Mouse album that should have come after M&A
I love TMAA and TIALDFSWNTTA but can't seem to digest LCW, or at least its production
What's my problem user?
It can definitely be rough, it was for me the first 2 or 3 listens when I was first getting into Modest Mouse; the same for my friend. I guess I just sort of got used to it, and I actually came to enjoy the rough and raw production. It was definitely a kind of grower type of album, atleast in me and my friends experience. One thing that might help; or might get you more into the mindset of it is watching the documentary behind LCW.

Regardless of if it helps you or not, it's still a really cool look at some music history. The message of the album might become a bit more clear as well, if you had any problems with it.
yeah i have tons of times. lots of goat tracks on there
also make sure you dont miss out on the ugly casanova "rarities" (fatures on the reissue now)

wtf is "TIALDFSWNTTA"?
He mean This is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About.
oh. of course. i've never heard it like that, either full name or just "long drive".
thanks user.
But that's the thing: I'm very fond of rough and raw production, but that album sounded more like demos than a creative, lo-fi project.
And yes, I do have a problem with albums that need many relistens to get into, but mostly the ones that dont present as a challenge firsthand. I got easier, say, into DG and Swans than into Built to Spill or SunnO))) because I couldn't feel the density of the latters at first listen
Will check the doc, though cuz I still love Modest Mouse and Isaac Brock
This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About
Don't thank him. That isn't something people do. Long Drive makes way more sense than that retarded abbreviation
I don't get all the hate for Float On desu, it's a pretty damn good song. It's definitely not representative of the best of MM, and it wouldn't make my top 20 MM songs, but it's good for sure. I feel like a lot of fans try to downplay it just because of its popularity.
Me and my bandmate were playing it on rocksmith and we hadnt heard it since highschool.
Both agreed that it's just a solid, great tune.
how does it sound more like demos than a creative project? The album's pretty cohesive in theme and varied in sound, it flows well. The production isn't even that rough, it's better-produced than This is a Long Drive, which you could probably make a better case for sounding like demos. Those two albums are pretty similar imo, LCW is just like the better-produced, more experimental version. Plus they both have Lounge.
I don't have a favorite between the two really, but it just seems that if you liked one of them you'd like the other because they scratch pretty much the same musical itches
