well first off i should say video games were never good and they are inherently a waste of time
but it's true that last i played they were worse than ever and it probably didn't get any better

why ? well it became big enough that it had to answer to professional standards
it used to be almost artisanal, small teams of people making an enjoyable product by themselves with relatively low budget

but eventually video game creation is demanding enough that small teams can rarely compete, every game becomes a major project involving investments, and bureaucrats calculate exactly how much investment, how long it should take, how much it needs to pay back, who exactly receives budget etc

eventually you start to evaluate the costs and benefits of every single design decision to the point you take the safe bets and go according to a known formula, if any risks are taken they are exceptional and calculated
and you start asking questions like "would we make more sales if we send 10% of the budget to the marketing team ?" or "wouldn't it be better to develop two games in one year than one game in two years ?" and such which of course results in a shit-tier experience for the consumer

and consumers of video games are mostly children that are completely unable to organize proper consumer consciousness, reviewers are corrupt, e celebs are stupid, everyone related to video games is awful so it will likely keep going this way forever
which is good since it's a shit hobby anyways

nah never liked DM/war servers nor roleplay
i stay somewhere in the middle playing in Cops n Robbers servers that aren't full on "Cops vs Criminals" dmfests, with decent anti-rdm rules and allowing civilians to have non-criminal jobs
