For me it's Lorn - Acid Rain
youtube.com/watch?v=nxg4C365LbQ

>have worst week of my life as my fiancee confesses to infidelity
>decide to pull the plug and break up with her
>she goes to her parents for the weekend while I pack my things
>try to put some music on, but everything is shit now
>find the song that fits the mood, and listen to it on repeat while I pack my things
>go through all our belongings, all our memories, and leave behind the life I thought I was building up with her

It devastated me on such a deep profound level, and anytime I listen to that song now, it brings me right back to the despair I felt as I was separating my belongings from hers. It's been a couple of months now, and I've healed a bit so far, but a lot of the pain is still there. The song is forever imprinted into me as this anchor of misery, and maybe I should cherish that in its own morbid way.

Still can't believe I am where I am now, though. I miss her. I want her back. ...I need to stop listening to it.

It isn't really ultimate misery, but it gets me every time I listen to it; its more about the melancholy of realizing your own mortality and how finite your life is. I ended up seeing Chris Knight without a band at a bar in the city I'm from, and went in thinking it would be a bit of a snooze fest and was absolutely blown away by how hard his songs hit home.

This one is pretty great too, its a cover of Robert E Keen's Undone.

While I was about to get kicked out of engineering I'd also listen to him as the degenerate, destructive drunk that I was when I went in. Also, I hate country for the most part.

Radiohead - Daydreaming
I guess I'm not really in the mood to get all in my feelings right now but it might be the most depressing song I have

man holy shit, came here to post the exact same thing

I know this is normie as shit but I almost shot myself to Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb.

I don't really know why I didn't just kill myself, I had the gun loaded and pointed on my head but I just didn't do it. When you put on the song I kinda get put in this noticeable trance, not a good feeling.

Happy I didn't tho, life's treating me well as of now.

The Antlers - Wake

it is a reflection of my life

Swans - The Sound
hits me in the feels everytime, especially at the end

Elliot Smith - Between the Bars

He really gets it for me.

Starless

Wish I had a story worth sharing but it's just a really good (and sad) song

little person by jon brion

Have A Nice Life - Bloodhail
I used to look up to my grandfather as a role model growing up because he was one of the only people in my family who was an actual decent person and wasn't a shallow piece of shit. When he died I was absolutely devastated because everything that made him such a great person was gone because he was dead.

Moxy Früvous – Horseshoes

Bad shit mang

I'm sorry for your loss, he sounded like a great guy

The Taste Of Fear, by Shadows Fall

Nasty breakup ensued after my gf told me she cheated on me BY TEXT while I was listening to the song.

At one point one of my "friends" was severely distressed about this. My playlists and general nihilism got him worried enough to ask me blunt questions:
>Thom Yorke With Bjork - I've Seen It All
>youtube.com/watch?v=3V1Lov1U9mU

More recently, I've spent too much time in de-industrialized parts of New England where binge drinking gets me by but the appeal of opiates can be appreciated. Springsteen made me understand the appeal of the syringe.
>Bruce Springsteen - The River (The River Tour, Tempe 1980)

Pic unrelated. NIN bears enough rage to blast through other thoughts.

The Marmalade: Reflections Of My Life
I hum it at work during busy shifts.

Dream Theater - The Ministry Of Lost Souls
>youtube.com/watch?v=T1lnO2dF9rM

Now I know DT has a bad reputation on Sup Forums, but give it a listen. It's one of their most emotional songs regardless of it's lenght.

This song holds a dear place in my heart, because I discovered the song a few days before a tragic event in my life. I read the lyrics as I listened through, and while a bit cryptic, I found them really beautiful. Look them up, it's lyrically one of their best imo.

A few days later, my 14 year old daughter died. These lyrics took a whole other meaning to me, and the song has been haunting me for nearly a decade now.

Coheed and Cambria - Everything Evil

All their songs are about a science fiction universe, but I don't really care about that, as I have my own meanings to their songs. I played this specific song before and after I met the girl of my dreams. She ended up committing suicide after i fell in love with her. Her name was Jesse (Yes, spelled the masculine way, her family tried to raise her as a boy) and the lead singer yells the name out in the song, it really eats at me.

Strange

Amiina - Biolagio

Doesn't seem to be a misery type of song at first, but it comforted me in the worst time of my life. I was in a terrible relationship and had insane anxiety and all I did was cry all day and this comforted me. Almost can't listen to it anymore because it brings back the terrible feelings.

Sigur Ros, Untitled 1 on the album ()

Even though it's meaningless Icelandic nonsense it gets strong feels out of me every time.

Bark Psychosis - The Loom
youtube.com/watch?v=aQfZWtUp4FM

Listened to this album in a cold winter night when I was going through a lot of emotional turmoil. Was too far in with someone who didn't really give a shit about me and I kept trying to convince myself it wasn't true to the point of exhaustion. I initially was just trying to be a positive person in their life, but sometimes you get attached in ways you don't even realize. This song is a reflection of that same winter and same moment for me, which was probably the most miserable I've been in years.

>You stand apart
>With the sinking sunlight
>I just came to watch you smile
>Clarity
>You worked so hard that
>You don't know what it's like to be so shy

>It's gonna work out anyway
>It's gonna work out anyway

johnny hobo & the freight trains - whiskey is my kind of lullaby

first time i heard it i was an alcoholic. no job. had tried to kill myself a couple times within a couple months. i don't know, it didn't make me feel better, or worse, just like someone else who made music had been through similar shit. i like that chord progression a lot.

youtube.com/watch?v=3YhZ6bfYwvI

i haven't even watched this anime but for whatever reason this track fills me with deep sadness. i play it on repeat whenever i have a sobbing session about how pathetic and disappointing i am

Galapogos - Smashing Pumpkins
youtube.com/watch?v=3-NK_vBpPJs

Really got into these guys in my final year in high school when things were totally falling apart. My gf cheated on me with my best friend at the time, and all my other friends moved to other cities (for unrelated reasons). She (along with my ex-best-friend) then started a rumour that I was a drug addict and more-or-less suicidal, and basically the whole school shunned me except for a few popular kids who ironically liked me, but I saw past their façade so I pushed them away. I was basically turned into a loner within a few weeks - I had everything, and the next moment I had nothing. The teachers had picked up on this and tried to counsel me and shit without me asking for it, which only fed fuel to the rumours of me being a suicidal drug addict. I only found comfort in music.
This song resonated with me quite a lot, high school fucked me up big time and I have really bad trust issues with people now.

>I won't deny the pain
>I won't deny the change
>And should I fall from grace here with you?
>Will you leave me too?

/blog

Can someone help me find a video? It's a white guy playing guitar and singing the blues while a black man sits and cries while listening to the song. It really moved me last time and showed some intense misery.

Anything by Frightened Rabbit or the song Ekki Muk

lil embarrassing

I was having a really bad week literally everything was going wrong. Issues with friends (found out one I lost contact with died), family, work, school ETC. On that week Whitney dies on a Saturday, I youtube her cause why not and "I Look To You" is the first one i clicked. Her personal situation of course made the lyrics hit a bit harder, these in particular kinda ruined me
>As I lay me down,
>Heaven hear me now.
>I'm lost without a cause
>After giving it my all.
[...]
>And every road that I've taken
>Led to my regret.
>And I don't know if I'm going to make it.
>Nothing to do but lift my head

Anything by Jason Molina

Say what you say...
but "How to dissappear" has to be one of the most depressive songs ever.
However, at the same time there's something really beautiful to it.

Morphine - Gone for Good

Was madly in love with a woman and at one point broke up with her. She cut all the contact and moved elsewhere.
Morphine's music associates in my mind with her, this song fits the ending.

*deletes all except last 4 tracks*

youtube.com/watch?v=L2m6IsVvj5c
pretty much the same story as most people ITT
fell in love, they turned out to be an evil, manipulative piece of shit, nearly killed myself because of it
most of the lyrics in this song cut deep
>after you and me
>and a stolen moment of happiness
and
>can't even get close to nobody no more
>no matter how much you try
>you can't get close to nobody no more

now i'm just alive out of habit
i hate everything and everyone

Check this out. It's a live performance by a Japanese band called The GazettE. The song is about a girl who was kidnapped, raped, tortured and eventually murdered, then disposed of in a concrete filled drum named Junko Furuta (The Concrete Girl).

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Junko_Furuta

Sure it's in Japanese, but the performance is heartbreaking.

Temple of the Dog - Call me a Dog

youtube.com/watch?v=DmdVT1wjaFQ

Exactly represents the motivations people have to stay in a shitty relationship that gives them nothing. Not from the abuse perspective the way some songs depict it or the old he/she-cheated-on-me-but-I-still-love-him/her. More like "this sucks but I don't think it would be better without".
Actually wasted six years of my life like that.

But when it's my time to throw the next stone
I call you beautiful if I call at all
And when it's my time to call your bluff
I call you beautiful or leave it alone

Also, at the second verse and beyond you can see the lead singer and drummer crying.
Really into the song.

I literally cannot listen to Somewhere Over the Rainbow, almost any cover makes me want to cry. It was played by some family members at my uncle's memorial service. Me and him used to play guitar together during the holidays for the rest of the family. He's what really got me into guitar in the first place. When he passed he left me a bunch of his pedals and other guitar equipment. Every time I play I think of him and whenever I hear Somewhere Over the Rainbow I just think of that memorial service and bawling my eyes out.

Cancer sucks.

chronic depression, heartbreak
>why can't i make her stop feeling sad
took me a long time to get over it, i still can't listen to the song

or the title track

Basically been depressed for around 6 years now and when it gets really bad I listen to this album. Somehow it feels cathartic.
