Why is goth/post-punk so much better than punk

Why is goth/post-punk so much better than punk

Because they require talent

Punk was a provocation stripped down and "back to the basics" for the sake of politics. It didn't have to be good, it just had to get its point. Post-Punk took those sensibilites and took it into different directions. Gothic Rock then, with the sensibilities and now a musical blueprint gave itself a sturdy beginning and was free to be more creative and expressive.

Punk is boring shit "every song sounds the same, look how edgy we are" core that loses it's novelty almost immediately
Post-Punk/Goth actually innovated and experimented with the sound

You really don't know punk if you think that. Try listening to something like crass and tell me that it's stripped down

The distinction between post punk and punk is rediculous and often comes down to scenes. Lots of punk such as anarcho punk would have been considered post punk if it wasn't involved in a certain scene

Sometimes I get confused between goth, post-punk, new wave and new romantic.

I've heard Crass, I meant stripped down compared other styles at the time. Back in the 70s it was prog, early metal, psychedelic, funk, disco, and other, more technical stuff. Considering those styles of music, Punk was very stripped and simplistic.

I get Goth and Post-Punk, and Goth and New Wave, but how do you confuse Goth and New Romantic?

>ywn see porno of 1986 Robert Smith and Siouxie Soux fucking with candles and depeche mode playing in the background

It hurts

Goth basically is post-punk anyways... the earliest and most prominent goth acts were considered post-punk. But someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

puts the post in posture and you just discovered post-punk on the internet while all your irl mates are "cool for punk"

Goth here, pretty much though some people will contest that Post-Punk and Goth are so seperate that the first wave from 77-84 was in no way goth and goth actually started in 1985 with SOM, Fields of the Nephilim and similar acts.

The original super stripped down punk bands were bland but I love Dead Kennedys, hardcore punk and all the stuff that came out of like, crust etc.

I really love gothic rock but I can't stand new wave/synthpop.

proto punk was arguably post punk also. like television or modern lovers

I listen to them all, I especially love FotN... but Bauhaus and Siouxsie, while being goth icons, made post-punk music... so yeah it's easy to get them confused.

I like Bauhaus but I wish they had more dark sounding songs like Bela Lugosi or Dark Entries.

everyone talks about the politics and the bands being a vehicle for the message but there's plenty non political punk bands that put out albums miles above anything siouxsie and the banshees

Proto-punk as in the late 60s early 70s stuff can't be Post-Punk by definition, but if you mean Proto-Punk bands turned Post-Punk then yeah.

They're goth icons because they gave us goth in it's earliest form as post-punk. The characteristics of goth rock were set by them so they can't be excluded or separated.

like?

What's your your point?

sorry ma forgot to take out the trash. siouxsie is fine by the way but they never made a solid album and while i'm generally a fan of her lyrics the writer of the replacements is remarkably simple but technically good

>they never made a solid album
Siouxsie has an amazing discography, the only album I didn't like much was the covers one. Juju, A Kiss in the Dreamhouse and Tinderbox were great in particular.

people talk shit on punk a lot on this board despite not even listening to it or knowing anything about it

No it aint

Oi! is the best

still waiting for those btr bands bro

Try Go Away White. It has a few gloomier sounding tracks.

every song after monitor is hardly worth listening to

replacements
husker dü
the reatards
teengenerate

Husker Du is Pixies level of influential but boring.

Goth was a (mostly British) subset of post-punk with a unique style, became stylistically distinct over time (typical Goth music, Deathrock, Darkwave). New Romantic was a (mostly British) subset of New Wave with a unique style, became stylistically distinct over time (early 80's synthpop, sophisti-pop).
