That's not what the book claims. It claims that there are entities, some of which are governments but many are not, which use disasters and social upheaval as an opportunity to sneak in change that those it is imposed on wouldn't agree to. One example would be Scientologists flooding into a disaster area to convert people into their cult while they are at their weakest.

To be honest the later chapters were socialist revisionism, but the chapter on Iraq and Hurricane Katrina were quite persuasive.
I'm surprised pic related doesn't get more exposure in this board. It revolves around the nature vs. nurture debate, and puts forward strong arguments for the nature case. The chapter on gender basically destroys third-wave feminism, and the entire book is a constant erosion of left-wing myths. Not very edgy for this board (Pinker does not believe in racial differences and it's pretty obvious he is a liberal) but for a moderate book it's really red-pilled.

The book seriously misrepresented Friedman's views on shock therapy. Naomi Klein seriously has no idea what she was talking about, linking some events with others. I am not defending Friedman though, because he was wrong on some ideas, and had too much faith in free markets, but fuck Naomi Klein too.
