We have fiber in Australia, but because of political fuck ups we only get fiber to a node at the front of every street, and then it gets bottlenecked by going through 40 year old copper wires.

It is... but it's really just a bragging right. Anything over 500Mb/s is more than enough for 99.9% of the people. Unless you're moving hella backups.
What is funny, I keep getting mail from the CenturyLink saying how they offer a price for life promotion for DSL... I qualify for 3Mb DSL. No thanks!
