EP collab by Whirr & Nothing.

Who remember this?
nice, it's like their split but in a blender
plz let them reunite whirrr properly
Glorious Nippon shoegaze, reverbed over 1000 times.
> tfw MotFD released some incredible post-hardcore records, then inexplicably became a really mediocre indie/j pop act
:/
yesterday night I was up looking at old whirr live videos and tried to find side projects of the band members. I miss them so much, I wish I could've seen them live. It's such a shame this whole SJW fiasco ruined the band and gloss ain't even a thing anymore... sjw's are a bunch of hypocrites man, they jump from one controversy to the next without even knowing all the details. They ruin everything in the path of their personal agendas. Anyways, apart from Nick Bassett, what the hell have the other band members been doing since Whirr died? Are they in other bands or have they stopped making music completely?
does anyone have any of the EP's / singles by The Depreciation Guild to share? I love the two albums and i'd like to get the other stuff if i can
I found Nautilus and Dream About Me on RuTracker the other day.
Lossy, but better than nothing.
Mass of the Fermenting Dregs aren't shoegaze.
They're not post-hardcore either.
Not shoegaze but very good
wut, most of their stuff very neatly falls into post hardcore.
Maybe not, but they're something resembling both those genres. Or they were. They were really dynamic and pounding on those early EPs, and there is a dreamy yet loud quality that resembles shoegaze. If you have a better estimation for their sound then I'm definitely open to it, but I can definitely see something to both of those descriptions.
When did they go to indie/jpop? Roughly, that is. After their first LP?
>tfw you may have developed an unhealthy obsession with Loveless.
It's like a drug. Been hooked on it for over four years.
I think they're just Japanese alt-rock. Sure, their first two EPs are loud, but they're not exactly noisy, and any distortion isn't the focus like with other shoegaze artists. I'll admit that I'm not very familiar with post-hardcore, so maybe I'm just overestimating the hardcore part of it.
Also I wouldn't consider Zero Comma that much of a compromise of their sound given that there were songs like Skabetty 青い、濃い、橙色の日 on their EPs, and there's still high energy songs like RAT, ズレる, and ひきずるビート.
imo their last release was only marginally more indie/jpop than they had been before. Idk about anything past them though, maybe he means since their recent revival.
>maybe I'm just overestimating the hardcore part of it
I think that's probably the case. Many post-hardcore bands barely even resemble hardcore.
Exactly, I'm referring to their most recent stuff
Shit, I haven't listened to their new stuff yet. I do quite like their mix of post-hardcore and shoegaze, though; any other bands like it?
youtube.com
Really into Nothing lately.
>I'm referring to their most recent stuff
Ah, okay. I only listened to Slow Motion Replay once so I can't say much about their new stuff. I know their line-up has changed a lot which probably doesn't help.
It's a longshot, but maybe Envy? They're more post-rock/screamo though. Otherwise I would assume that it'd be worth checking out some nosie rock.
You could probably describe Jawbox as something like that, but they're completely different from MotFD
youtube.com
It might also be worth your while to check out the screamo/post-rock groups, like Envy:
youtube.com
Probably noise rock, yeah - I already do listen to that. To be fair, I tend to prefer shoegaze that isn't full out gaze, so there's that.
This is more of an out of the blue recommendation, but you should check out Dear by Boris if you haven't already.
>And the /shugazi/ award for Dreampop AotY goes too...
Don't die, shugazi!
Dude I miss Whirr so fucking much. I don't know what happened to the other members besides Nick Bassett. But a couple weeks(?) ago, an user came in here an said he had met Loren who told him he regrets a bunch of shit from Whirr. So who knows. Fuck, I need them back.
what's the worse that could happen if they make a comeback? They would have to produce without a label and might face backlash when playing live?
Slow d i v e
missing out on the actual AOTY, no sun - if only
>tfw last threads died with less than 50 replies
fog lake is dream pop? I'm not sure....
Tashaki Miyaki is way too generic to be AOTY
Slowdive is Slowdive
Japanese Breakfast are overrated
I'm between You'll Never Get to Heaven and Jay Som, leaning towards the latter
Haven't listened to the other records
>snatch this thinking it's Whirr
>ambient fuckery from Spain
Godammit.
Yeah, like, honestly it's not too bad if they have to start over, it's not like they don't have a following. Plenty of people will buy their shit and go to their shows. Eventually they'd be able to find a new label. Fuck. I just want Whirr back man.
Dude if I were to get bait-and-switched by some ambient band from Spain I'd be pissed too.
let's start a gofundme or whatever kind of crwodfunding so that we could get them back on track. It's time for the great UNJUST of Whirr.
Not sure if shoegaze or just noise pop but its still great
youtube.com
Their comeback album better be called unJUST
you can't go wrong with this
youtube.com
yes, the great UNJUST the new shoegaze wave needs.
>/shugazi/ - Shoegaze, Dreampop, Blackgaze & Noise Pop General
Note how I said shoegaze, not /shugazi/ ;^)
I mean, if we're being honest here...Whirr was never really that great.
Every guitar on every track sounded exactly the same. They were really bad at layering. Boring, typical song structures, boring melodies, boring effects...etc.
Their songs were also mixed pretty poorly. And Jesus Christ, those lyrics.
Whirr were a good band but I'm not dying for them to come back or anything.
i fucking love pia fraus
I get you. This doesn't exactly help their case, but I personally really love their music because it's honestly been one of the best musical stims that have helped with my Asperger's.
Hope this doesn't get taken as a blogpost, just saying why I personally really love Whirr's music.
>lyrics
I can never understand a thing they're saying, and I'm usually pretty good at discerning
I agree they were kind of egenric but they had some really great songs. Sandy, Wait, Clear are all top-tier.
I wish they'd get the high-voiced girl from the Distressor album back.
Something about Nadja's mixing has always bothered me. It's loud and fuzzy but there's no weight behind it, if that makes sense.
I know exactly what you mean. I got recommended them a lot based on other stuff I was into, but I can never really get into them for that reason
anyone see any updates from melody's brain aneurysm? tried googlin but didn't get anything

Noise-Pop perfection

My expectations were really low after seeing the RYM score of pic related, but it turned out to be surprisingly pleasant.
You guys got any more like it?
Does anyone have invites to emo or shugazi discords?
...
Can someone explain what exactly shoegaze is? And the difference with dreampop?
>Can someone explain what exactly shoegaze is?
Wall of noise created usually with distorted guitar and heavy reverb. Vocals are usually mixed to blend with instruments, sometime lower, instead of being clear and discernable.
>And the difference with dreampop?
Dreampop is just pop with an ethereal or dream-like quality.
I like this alot

Is discord why the general has been so dead?
It seemed like a few weeks ago they were hitting bump limit.
the discord is pretty dead too
non-stop threads are not a good idea
