Logical positivism asserts that definitions are neither true or false, they're definitions.

It asserts that the only thing worth calling a true statement is an empirically true statement about reality.

That's why it's self refuting; it's not empirically true itself and thus isn't consistently something you can call true. It leaves it's own assertions outside of the realm of truth in a rather unique way for an epistemology. It doesn't meet it's own standards.
