worst member of husker du desu

I never got into husker du but now I can pretend I did to get cool points

literally who

Oh no way. Fuck that.

tfw listen to husker du but no idea who he is and not even going to pretend

Literally who?

Oh shit. This bummed me out. RIP.

Underrated songwriter, drummer, Du member, and solo musician. He always seemed to get the short end of the stick, especially after Husker Du broke up (although the drugs really didn't help). RIP all the same. The Argument was a great record.

>not Greg Norton

One of the best Dave Grohl impersonators the world ever knew. RIP

:(

This is fucking sad, can't believe Zen Arcade gets posted all the time on this board and yet nobody gives a fuck. Grant was a great songwriter and wrote some of their best songs.

>This is fucking sad, can't believe Zen Arcade gets posted all the time on this board and yet nobody gives a fuck.
If the OP said "RIP Grant Hart; Drummer/Singer/Songwriter of Hüsker Dü" there'd be more responses. People know his work just not his name.

F

>The Argument
he was in Fugazi?

Really sad to hear this. I usually liked his songs better than Bob's.

Fuck, I really liked the Huskers. Great drummer, will be missed. Mods please pin

F

Know a guy who knew him. Fascinating character and stories. F.

No. Husked Du. The Argument came out in 2013.

Well this is fucking sad

ah fuck

Damn. His first solo album ("Intolerance") was comfy-as-fuck late-80's indie-pop:

Rip man

RIP to a legend. I wonder how Bob is taking it.

"It was the Fall of 1978. I was attending Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. One block from my dormitory was a tiny store called Cheapo Records. There was a PA system set up near the front door blaring punk rock. I went inside and ended up hanging out with the only person in the shop. His name was Grant Hart.
The next nine years of my life was spent side-by-side with Grant. We made amazing music together. We (almost) always agreed on how to present our collective work to the world. When we fought about the details, it was because we both cared. The band was our life. It was an amazing decade.
We stopped working together in January 1988. We went on to solo careers, fronting our own bands, finding different ways to tell our individual stories. We stayed in contact over the next 29 years — sometimes peaceful, sometimes difficult, sometimes through go-betweens. For better or worse, that’s how it was, and occasionally that’s what it is when two people care deeply about everything they built together.
The tragic news of Grant’s passing was not unexpected to me. My deepest condolences and thoughts to Grant’s family, friends, and fans around the world.
Grant Hart was a gifted visual artist, a wonderful story teller, and a frighteningly talented musician. Everyone touched by his spirit will always remember.
Godspeed, Grant. I miss you. Be with the angels."

From Bob's Facebook page.

damn, one of the best things about Zen Arcade was the drumming. RIP

You really shouldn't be on Sup Forums if you haven't listened to Zen Arcade at least once.

rip

literally W H O

no, oh shit

Holy FUCK this is depressing

Husker Du and The Replacements were some of the best and probably the most unique rock bands of the past 40 years. Seeing their members slowly die off one by one is one of the worst things ever being a music fan.

Seeing this thread full of underage shitposts like make me want to ram my head against concrete

Candy Apple Grey was one of the first albums which really got me into music. Still one of my favourite records.

For what it's worth, it will probably be a long while before Bob and Greg go. Grant hadn't been in the best of health for a long time

Husker Du sucked but r.i.p my man

DIANE

Man, that's outta nowhere.

Wonder what happened, I haven't looked it up. Hopefully this forces any plebs to listen to Zen Arcade or something.

It was a long time coming but it's still a blow. The guy managed to fuse jazz and hardcore punk drumming without it sounding the least forced adn was a great songwriter to boot. Zen Arcade is amazing - took me 3 or 4 listens to get it, abrasive and poorly mastered as it was, but when it hit me it was a terrific experience - and will probably always be one of my favourite albums. F

So Chester Fagginton got a sticky but Grant didn't? I hate this board

F

he wrote both Diane and Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely, btw

F

Totally took me by surprise. He wrote some of the best Husker Du songs. Where's the fucking sticky

Even though he preceded Grohl by many years, you twat.

Sad day for sure. Bob's ego in Husker regulated Grant to "the drummer guy who sometime sings" but his songs were every bit as good as Mould.

RIP, Grant.

>Hating on Greg "where's my paycheck?" Norton
>Hating on Greg "str8" Norton
ur a fag

Better this way.

>Totally took me by surprise
They did a fundraiser for him a month ago, Norton was there. He (Hart) looked terrible.

He's had some bad moments in the past. I know he battled heroin addiction and it often showed. Also, he got a false positive AIDS test back in the 80s. Honestly, if he was going to die I thought it'd either be the heroin or gay sex that would get him.

Always wondered if they where a couple and broke up around the "Dianne" era.
Some of their lyrics sound like there literally dissing each other as lovers, specially notable on "Warehouse.."

Anyways, R.I.P Grant, his songs where better than Bobs

Always thought the bassist with the moustache was the gay one

Turns out he was the only straight one huh

What a bummer. RIP

The experimental force behind Hüsker Dü; a true, complete artist.

RIP Grant, responsible for some of Husker Du's best songs

Huge influence on the Foo Fighters and Green Day. I don't really hear it in Green Day, but the Foo Fighters may as well be a Husker Du cover band with 90s radio mastering.

The same applies to Nirvana and basically every 90's American rock band - as Dave Grohl admitted himself. Compare Pearl Jam's Spin the Black Circle to Beyond the Threshold (a Bob Mould song iirc, but the drumming is very much Grant's).

That Stone Gossard song from 'No Code' sounds exactly like Husker Du. I think Nirvana sounded more like The Pixies and (especially) The Wipers, but then again The Pixies formed when Black Frances put a classified ad out looking to form a band that sounded like Husker Du meets Peter, Paul, and Mary.

>I don't really hear it in Green Day

This, besides Green Day covering Husker Du I don't see the influence, not even in the early stuff youtube.com/watch?v=yge4Rx_nPCk

I saw an interview with Billie Joe where he mentions seeing them as a teen and getting his eardrums blasted out.

On the whole, Intolerance was better than either of Bob's first solo albums. Though I'll admit nothing was quite as beautiful as See A Little Light.

I'm happy they were on good terms when Grant passed. There was some vitriol between them at one point, to say the least.

Apparently this photo was taken a few months ago. Jesus wept, he looked worse than my 92 year old grandpa did when he passed on.

Holy shit, he looks like a completely different person.

RIP brother

youtube.com/watch?v=KzetY3D_LWg

I didn't need to see this

It gets even more jarring when you see Grant and Greg together at the fundraiser a few months ago, Greg is two years older than Grant but Grant looks two decades older. It's a shame things had to end this way.

Poor bastard

Oh shit
Rest in peace grant

F

F

he wrote some of the best husker du songs

As an MNfag this is hurting more than losing Prince

This is a lovely song. Their supposedly 'bad' mixing actually gives it a nice shoegazey quality with the vocals buried in the mix.

>this got an article on the BBC website
Got to say I'm surprised, but glad he's got recognition from them
bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-41274059

desu, I'm surprised Sup Forums aren't more over this, I thought they were down with the Du

Mats >>> Husker

I'll probably join Westerberg whenever he kicks the bucket

*whoosh*

…sticky Grant, mods.
Else you admit to ultimate Sup Forumsplebeianship.

Did William S. Burroughs just wander about looking to take photos with everyone ever?

I'll always be glad I got to see Greg play in person. He plays bass in a local band called Porcupine now and they played a gig at a bar in my town. Getting to stand right in front of him when they played was fucking awesome, he's still really energetic on stage.

Damn, that's pretty fucking sad to see. Still, got to respect the guy for still going out and getting up on stage to perform in that condition. I remember watching his interview for that Replacements doc that came out about 3 or 4 years ago and thinking he looked kind of old for his age. He really went downhill fast after that though. F

I've listened to Zen Arcade several times. Should I automatically know the name of the band personnel?

Literally Du

I know right? That guy's mustache is straight out of a gay porno.

I agree, but I like Du quite a bit as well. The Mats are my fave 80s American band.

I'm going to report this thread so that the mods will notice it and hopefully sticky it.

>it's another mods won't sticky successful and/or critically acclaimed musician thread episode

I swear, Michael Gira could die and the mods wouldn't sticky.

We'll find out if that's true very soon...

user pls, he'll continue to murder, which extends his life span.

"I call him Dave Ghoul because he lives off the dead."
-Grant

And now he's one of them
Based Grant though
