I saw raids, hacks, people's lives getting wrecked for the lulz, and then I had a break when I was visiting mostly, Sup Forums, Sup Forums, Sup Forums and whatever the fuck Sup Forums was called before it got shitcanned just to get remade as a containment board.

Now I decided to look around a bit and Jesus, this place really seems to have went downhill. Celeb threads, GF threads, wife threads, nude thread, just lame safe porn everywhere. Did moderation get so bad that this is the only thing that slips through? I did see a couple of CP posts, so I guess pedos are still going strong, but god damn. Where is the hostility, where is the hate machine? Was the past couple of days just rather lame and I was unlucky or this is the state of Sup Forums after so many years.

Not sure if I miss this cesspool but I am surprised how tame it is here now.

Few back people figured out that shilling on Sup Forums was the very cheapest form of internet advertising. Millions of eyes for 0 cost, almost no moderation. Started with "hey isn't this website cool?" And moved on to crypto advertising for movies by endless celeb threads that feature the same dozen celebs who all just happen to have material coming out, and lastly just flat out paid political shilling. By my count it is almost all US democrat stuff although the odd German post gets made. Just fucking shameless shilling, literally posting links to political blogs the moment they go up. Bot-posting the same threads with the same text and image like clockwork. And of course camwhore ads disguised as rate me, kik, sauce threads.

In short, normiville figured out Sup Forums had value as a high ROI platform.

This is what we used to say even 10 years ago, posting "remember when Sup Forums was good? Sup Forums was never good" (which is true btw) but today it really seems to be toned down.

I guess it's impossible really, that was some wild wild west shit back then, no moderation, noone really knowing what internet can do and how to deal with it. Nowadays you can get a taste of this on some smaller elitist chans that are irrelevant enough not to attract local authorities, but damn, back in the day it really was some crazy shit, to have a board that was actually popular and at the same time had CP, murders and such posted daily.

I remember how one girl posted tits, and behind here there was a logon and pass nailed to the wall. Turned out to be her mother's amazon account or something, people started buying golden dildos and such. When Amazon blocked the account, people found the mom's email, and obviously she had the same pass there. Her mom, family, school and even church group all got girl's naked pics. These days this would get shut down within minutes. Probably not as many kids are as hungry for attention now?

But in the past when someone posted their blog or something, people would demolish it. Either LOIC or just shitpost it to oblivion. Even today Sup Forums is basically immune to shilling, as arguing with people's opinions is what they literally live for. And ironically Sup Forums seems to still be quite fertile when it comes to memes. Sup Forums to a much lesser extent (there shilling is really bad), but still. It's like... other boards are kind of holding on, and I saw Sup Forums and it was just naked pics and feels for the most part

then overpopulation led to too much board fragmentation, which robbed Sup Forums of most of its topics and robbed those threads of most of their trolls (which, in the case of Sup Forums and /biz/ at least, were desperately needed)

also, overpopulation allowed shilling to be much more rampant and effective. For chrissakes, look at Sup Forums now.

The growth in use and popularization of the internet in general has civilized all sites. Governments and corporations regulate and normalize sites as they gain popularity. This site has gained national attention on the news. With government surveillance, posting murder threads, CP, and other illegal content has become dangerous.

Like the wild west analogy, the internet will become developed and controlled. The shock, excitement, and vastness of the west will be colonized. New frontiers will hopefully be chased and explored by those excited by the wild life of the west.
Maybe we need to frontier to something new, as this site isn't "how it was back in the day."
