I just learned about time-restricted eating. Long story short, if you only eat within an 8-10 hour window, it has all kinds of benefits like fat loss, muscle gain, better sleep, reduced inflamation, higher metabolism, better endurance, more energy, and more.
I'm going to start doing it myself. It's 100% scientifically proven. It has to do with the way out bodies function, apparently our digestive systems and fat storage and muscle building and all that shit are made to function optimally only during the day, which is less than 12 hours, and if you're eating outside of that time period your body stores more fat, slows your metabolism, doesn't build as much muscle, and other bad shit.
I just learned about it from this science bitch online and it's all completely legit.

Anything, Literally anything. If you're at a calorie deficit, you //can not// gain weight. If you're at a calorie deficit, you will lose weight. Basic law of Thermodynamics. Calories in, Calories out. People quit diets because A) They don't understand how losing weight works and B) They eat shit they don't like.

I just lost 50lbs eating 600 cals/day. Bumping up to 900 as part of my incentive structure, when I lose another 50lbs on 900/day, I'll bump up to 1200/day. If I'm miserable and hungry and I want to eat more, all I have to do is lose weight, and it's working.

For my 600 I'd drink a 300 calorie 16oz coffee (1/3 cup of sugar), nurse on that all day. Then at dinner, I toast 2 slices of bread, 8 slices of black forest ham, and a slice of pepper jack cheese. 300 calories. I did that and lost 4.5lbs/week.

Tips
>Buy a Food Scale. People quit diets because they under-eat, because they spend all their time guessing instead of actually measuring the food they eat. When you actually measure your food, you'll learn you can eat a LOT more.

Fruit juice is horrible for you because it doesn't contain the fiber of whole fruit, and without the fiber it spikes your blood sugar and lowers your insulin resistance which is what causes fat storage.

There are a bunch of factors that influence this, from fiber to sugar to fat, to when you eat, to how much exercise you get, and on and on, but calories is an extremely insignificant factor. Barring extremes, calories don't mean shit, and for the average person, getting enough calories is way more important than cutting back.

Inulin resistance is what causes diabetes, not the other way around. Diabetes is when it gets so bad it become irreversible.

This isn't intermittent fasting, though, it's about how your body functions. The point isn't about going a certain amount of time without eating, it's about how your body functions based on your circadian rhythms. Your digestive system and metabolism are designed to function only during the day, and then rest and rejuvenate during the night. So whenever you eat breakfast, it starts this "clock" inside of you and around 8 hours later everything starts slowing down. If you continue eating after 8 - 12 hours, your body doesn't process food as well because the systems are slowed down, so you end up storing more fat, etc.

Fasting is based on a completely different concept than time-restricted eating. A good example is that fasting doesn't count anything without calories as breaking the fast (black coffee, tea, vitamins) whereas those things would count as "food" for time-restricted eating because they still need to be processed by your liver and whatnot, which is still going to signal your body to start that "clock".

While sugar will make you store more fat, you should still count your calories. Sure, you can get away with eating 5000 calories a day, if you only eat meat, but you'll be constipated and tired all day. Eat normal. You're literally talking about two different things. You do not know how a deficit works.

1) Eating at a Calorie Surplus- Insulin levels elevate to allow for glucose uptake by cells. Excess insulin and glucose signals the body to store the glucose as glycogen and convert it to fatty acids for storage.

2) Eating at a Calorie Deficit- The amount of energy utilized by the body throughout the day is greater than the amount of energy provided by food/drinks taken in. To fill the differential, the body must mobilize energy from its energy stores, namely glycogen and stored fats.

The insulin spike really has nothing to do with caloric deficit aside from the rapid change in blood glucose (from low/normal at baseline to high after eating back to normal/low again after the insulin release) can cause you to go from sated to hungry again rather quickly. If you eat when you're hungry then you'll be more likely to eat more than your deficit and actually have a surplus.

If you eating simple sugars causes you to binge, you have no self control and no diet will work for you any way.

A healthy metabolism requires that based on what healthy people require at their healthy weight and good activity level. Unhealthy, sedentary, overweight people do not fit the same equations that were designed for athletes. Hormones, activity, and organ function/disfunction cause huge swings in caloric requirement and even caloric absorbsion

The average person isn't going to have to pay attention to their calories because they generally eat three regular-sized meals a day, and if you're eating real food and not twinkies and shit you won't have trouble keeping your calories in a reasonable range.

Well you asked about "weight", not fat, and you can very easily gain weight in a caloric deficit if you're weight training eg. building muscle.

But even if you're talking specifically about fat, it is also possible to gain fat in a caloric deficit. This would be on the opposite end, if you're not getting any exercise and losing muscle mass quickly, you would be gaining fat faster than you can burn it.
