Civ. Game

I feel like shooting myself right now. As such, who here would like to play a game of Civ5? Will talk of the game rules, and post updates (Maybe stream but dont know.) as a discussion in the thread.

What's your steam user? I might be interested?

I'll post the game name in chat, so don't worry.

Also realized that it wasn't installed. Fuck me. Should be up in about 10 min if this doesn't slide to the tenth page.

Woops, should'nt speak to fast. On page 6. Bumparoo!

It's gonna 404 regardless. post your user and I'll just add you

Ya ready for this?
It's: Feel The Johnson. I was gonna wait to post the game name, but now I wont have to worry since everybody will shit up the thread due to that name.

>Feel The Johnson
kentucky or Best Korea?

Best Korea. I fucking love it whenever someone notices it.
>Tfw might as well be since I live in NJ.

You'd probably have better luck on Sup Forums desu

Nope! It's on Sup Forums because I specifically want trump/libertarian/clinton/bern seats to be filled and for more "Chaos" if you will.

Also, server's up. Name is Sup Forumsacks only. Post in this thread if you want to join, or else kick.

There are sometimes threads of this sort on Sup Forums and Sup Forums but they usually fizzle into nothing unfortunately.

I'm not sure if I have time to play but I would certainly watch the stream if we ever did a board event like this. I would be fun to have different flags playing their own/related countries and making bantz and meme history.

True, true. I'll scrap it for now and maybe do it what, 2 weeks from now? (Have a bit of an odd schedule.)

Nah you can try now and see if anyone will play.

Make a thread at some point and maybe ask the mods for a Sup Forums events sticky which would be a place for discussing the rules, time (time zones are a bitch especially for 4+ hour games), etc. You could use the Steam Stream function or whatever else you like for all the nonplaying anons. I would really love for something like this to happen.

You have 5 seconds to explain why you have any unbalanced bullshit mod installed in Civ V except for the Enhanced UI mod.

K, will do in 2 weeks though. Really, right now isnt good for me. Contacts for mods?

OP bailed, so I'm starting a group and pulling people from other boards. join if you'd like

I've played every Civ back to the original one, including Call to Power, AC and the shitty mobile ones, and I've still never played a multiplayer game, despite pirating Civnet for that exact reason back in like... 1998?

How well does it actually play out - it must be hard to get through a full game?

CBP and YnAEMP are better than the base game famalam. Does that even work in multiplayer? It would be great to have a clusterfuck of 22 players in their real world locations.

I would try a weekend this or next week. There's a good time cushion on weekends for the Euros living in the future. Try to get Sup Forums involved too.

I install the "Subs can cross borders" mod - can't think of its name. I'm heavily naval in my games, and submarines have snuck into places they're not supposed to be for intelligence gathering almost since their invention. Fuck you, that's why.

There's a weird system where you take turns at the same time. Works pretty well actually

Please stream, that would be awesome mate

>tfw no mod of such depth similar to Caveman2Cosmos for Civ 5

Righto. I should dive in one day.

I fucking love civ

Could never finish a game of that shit, its way too easy

I'll probably start a fresh thread with the new group in a bit, but go ahead and join steamcommunity.com/groups/wjbdnw

>playing boring fucking 4X games
This is how I KNOW Sup Forums is filled to the brim with fucking virgins

Pls tell us your deity conquering ways sensei. I still find that shit hard and can't win without using at least a tier 2 civ or above and getting a good start.

...

Sorry pham, maybe when I was in my first year of college and depressed out of my fucking mind I would have played with you

>boring

>focus on economy
>dont fuck up
>be doing average compared to AI
>build army and capture capital of an AI right above you in score
>now top 3
>build another army, take capital of AI in 2nd place
>now in first place
>dont fuck up
>win

>playing a singleplayer turn based game that lasts hours and hours for a single match that results in ghandi nuking everything leaving it as a huge chore
no

>playing with ai in multiplayer

How do you get cultural victories as brazil? With korea I can do fine but with brazil I can't even get close

>I feel like shooting myself right now.
Why? America is gonna be great again. I can understand being depressed when there was no light at the end of tunnel, but now I'm the happiest I've ever been.

Ghandi isn't that bad. Usually he ends getting his shit wrecked early game by the AI for spawning cities right next to theirs

civ v is for casuals play hoi3 instead

>How do you get cultural victories as brazil?

Seriously? Brazilwood camps, +2 culture on all jungle tiles. Right up there with France on the face-owning.

Stream when? I'll watch a bit if possible but I have to get up early tomorrow.

Yeah I do that but I Usually have shit production and food early game and pretty shit production and food late game as well. I can never land cultural wonders either due to shit production

now that the dust has settled, can we all agree that 4 is far superior to 5 and that one unit per tile was a huge mistake?

You have to scout the boundaries of the jungle start and get a city outside of it, preferably on plains or ocean. The culture bonus doesn't come until later so there's no need to build entirely in the jungle until you can do it comfortably (unless you get a start close to another civ).

>one unit per tile was a huge mistake

Found the guy who doesn't know how to warmonger

Also I'll never go back to square tiles

hey i wanna play too
my user name is standingrebel

I don't like having to play a sliding puzzle game every turn just to move my army, especially when army stacks had no downsides

join the group steamcommunity.com/groups/wjbdnw

ok i'm the george/sonic hybrid

A lot of people bailed, but I added you. Have four other solid people. We'll get it going later or another time

First of all, you should have to move your units like that, it requires skill to properly position your forces. I can't tell you how many times I've caught someone outrunning their siege units or failing to protect their flanks with counter-mounted units

>especially when army stacks had no downsides

It has plenty of downsides. War then just involved moving from city to city with your giant stack, terrain had no use and chokepoints were non-existent unless you had an isthmus one tile wide. Now I can expand out to a mountain range, plop down a citadel or two and funnel attackers into killzones because they can only push one unit through at a time. My Civ V experience is just one big-ass Thermopylae

Because the PC Master Race mod gives me future technology by turn 5

I came to terms with it though I didn't like it at first - I still wish I could place transports on the same tile as warships for escort, though my usual carrier-related game has just swelled out to dominate space, like carriers actually do in reality, so I guess that's not so bad.

civ isn't a tactical game, it makes no sense if we're thinking of it as a simulation and as a game it just makes wars much longer and easier to exploit against AI

you can counter stacks with artillery

otherwise your complaint is "my smaller weaker army lost to his larger stronger army"

boohoo

this

ok i'll be around. if we're going to start today we should do it soon.

>dangerously close to 1488
what he's also saying is it makes the game more interesting and varied, rather than
>"my smaller weaker army lost to his larger stronger army"

he literally said that it lets him exploit terrain to win unrealistic victories, which is especially exploitable against the retarded AI

>lets him exploit terrain to win unrealistic victories
sounds like he's using strategy eh?

In a STRATEGY game? What an ass!

I joined the group. Sorry about the whole organization of the whole thing, but after a phone call I learned that I could host an event next week instead of two.

nope, just exploiting shitty game design

AI will never be as nuanced and pliable as the human way of doing things, at least not in the foreseeable future
and if you're against humans then it's fair game, more or less

>Hannibal exploited shitty map design
>Nelson exploited shitty naval balancing
>Rommel exploited shitty British AI
>Leonidas exploited shitty buffs to Spartan units
>Guderian exploited shitty French default deployment

the AI in 4 is far less exploitable than in 5

>civ isn't a tactical game

These aren't tactics. Hitler leaving seven divisions in Calais wasn't a tactical error. Genghis Khan outstretching his garrison forces wasn't a tactical error. The Romans failing to man the Rhone from Hannibal wasn't a tactical error. Napoleon failing to defend four fronts wasn't a tactical error. If real-life war was two stacks meeting on an infinite plain like you want then all four of these superior forces would have won instead of lost.

>you can counter stacks with artillery

Still have to produce them, still costs maintenance.

>otherwise your complaint is "my smaller weaker army lost to his larger stronger army"

Which has failed to happen numerous times throughout history due to strategic blunders by the superior force.

There's nothing unrealistic about it, nations using natural borders as a force multiplier has happened over and over and over. You'd never win early-game wars by stacks when the AI gets economy bonuses on higher levels without this.

point is that tactics don't make sense in the world of Civ

armies aren't spread out over thousands of square miles, they are concentrated at the front lines

>point is that tactics don't make sense in the world of Civ

Again, logistics is not a tactical issue.

>armies aren't spread out over thousands of square miles, they are concentrated at the front lines

Sure they are. Everything takes up space. You can't piggyback tanks, or horses, or grunts or battleships. Every unit and element needs space to maneuver, space to be supplied and resupplied, space to fight. Read up on staging prior to D-Day, there were Allied units holed up in fucking Scotland who had to wait until south England was cleared out before moving down to cross the Channel.

battles have never involved armies that were spread out across entire continents, even in modern times

that is how every civ5 war works

Has every mod on this board taken a vacation?

>battles have never involved armies that were spread out across entire continents, even in modern times

They are always spread out, every unit needs a supply train, every town needs a garrison, units move from the front to the reserves to the rear and back again. Even in WWI and WWII only a fraction of the belligerents' active personnel were on the front at any given time.

literally no war before 1900 worked like that, and even then almost all troops were clustered on the frontlines

limiting unit production on physical land space is retarded

Whats this about a Civ 5 game with Sup Forums? I'd be down if somethings happening.
