Some things never change it seems

Don't ruin a comfy thread with existential autism.

Reminder that a good number of the people in those pictures have a new disease that will eventually be called HIV-AIDS and don't know it yet.

This evokes my own memories of Queensland Rail in the 1980s
Apparently one time as a toddler I lost my shit when I looked through the slats at the top of a wooden bridge between platforms and consequently my parents missed the train

why is ny so comfy

70s were a rough time in NYC. Things are better these days

A big part of it is that New York is a cultural centre
So even when it's grungy shit you fill in the dots by thinking everyone on that train's in advertising or musical theatre

Are the same carriages in commission or does it all look completely different now?

Depends on the line. Some lines have newer cars, some older.

Here's an interesting article/podcast episode about NYC's efforts to kill graffiti from their trains

Cheers.

Reminds me of The Warriors

NYC was a rough place back then. I've heard Taxi Driver captures it pretty well.

Sometimes I wish I had been alive to see it.

I hear about a guy who got mugged at knife point a few times in the 80s on the subway, but I can't remember which area of NYC he said it was.
It had a lot of gang surrounding the trains, if I recall correctly.

There was a group formed in 1979 called the guardian angels who were a volunteer group who organized to protect the subway cars. They were unarmed, but they could make citizens arrests, and they had workshops and other things to help educate and keep the public safe.

There were so many murders in New York during the 70s and 80s,its really unbelievable. It was so much worse then than now

what a shithole, holy shit

Weren't there even a lot of murders in the early nineties?

I've heard people complain that the city has lost its character, but every time I go to Newark, I question if that's a bad thing.

you've never been there, right? it's not comfy at all, it's fucking chaotic. I'd kill myself within weeks

Yeah, there's good things that could be said about the city, but comfy isn't one of them. Hell, none of the metro area is comfy at all.

third-world af

Evil Republicans had to fix this.

Where did they hide all the fatties?

Didn't exist yet in the 70s.

THE WARRIORS DID IT

It was bad, man.

>Central Park overrun by muggers and rapists
>Times Square full of porno theaters
>some neighborhoods looked like bombed-out cities at the end of WWII
>the city went bankrupt in 1975

AH, AH, AH, AH. STAYIN' ALIVE, STAYIN' ALIVE.

The United States had a nationwide crime epidemic from the late 60s to the early 90s; after Clinton became president, crime rates began dropping off.

isn't it going back up?

Niggers ruin everything.

Democrats who strongly supported social programs were in power during most of this urban decay. Guiliani and Bloomberg (Reps) were the ones who unfucked a lot of NYC.

Republicans had to come in and take care of it like usual.

Republicans and conservatives are like the police, they get based and insulted but the minute things go south everyone before for their help against the criminals (democrats)

Yeah, thank the coal burning kike mayor

That was because of that "crime bill" that the niggers cried about during the election.

>kike mayor
Pretty sure he's not Jewish.

DeBlasio is a spaghetti name not a Jewish name you dips. Also a man can't burn coal he's an oil digger
