Holy shit this is wonderful
Are youtubers like these guys just using their 'lol so wacky' angle to sell their music as their real product?
If so, doesn't that feel a little disingenuous?
did you actually listen to the music user? idk about you but i think it's actually unironically great
youtube.com
You nailed it, and it's working for them too.
seehow could you listen to that and think that the music was some kind of afterthought cashgrab?
no no no the VISUALS are just a means to showcase the music
>the VISUALS are just a means to showcase the music
oh yeah absolutely. but i have no problem with that. it's the same thing as music videos, and album covers too for that matter
but with music videos and album covers it's obvious that they're musicians just using a visual aid to augment their music
but with these YouTubers, they give the impression that their videos are their medium, not their music - so it seems disingenuous that the whole Little King John plot or the quirky humor of Pilotredsun and Cool 3D World are a lesser priority.
It's like if a movie director just made a movie to sell the soundtrack - the movie might be good, but you as a consumer may feel a little hacked off that it was just an advertising scheme rather than an artistic vision
i guess i can understand that. but personally i really enjoy the videos. i think the combination of the music and the visuals makes for a really unique multimedia experience.
yeah it's definitely lo-fi but i think that's part of the charm. it highlights the DIY ideology of post-internet art. just look at this timeless classic
