Really loving the sound and feel of this album.
Any other 70s albums to check out? Feeling disco-ish too btw

Curtis Mayfield - Curtis
Listened to this one yesterday. Starts of very strong
Nice I'll prob listen to this next
...
Listen to Curtis Mayfield - Superfly. Also check out Isaac Hayes - Hot Buttered Soul
This. The logical steps after Marvin
Pieces of a Man - Gil Scott-Heron
Dude never gets any appreciation on mu. But part of me would like to keep it that way.
the race baiters would have a field day with his stuff, but he was a very talented musician no doubt.
Baby Huey-The Baby Huey Story
YES, definitely a classic right there.
OP just started this. Just what I was looking for.
I love this too now.
I'd say it owes a little more to 60's soul but still essential.
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions

Donny Hathaway

Lee Moses > James Carr > Otis
Such a shame we never got to hear more of Lee on recording. The man could wail.
Thanks for the recs guys. Have lots of stuff to fill my time now :)
Sampling aside this whole album incompasses everything that is great about 70s jazz funk/quiet storm.
Also check out An Insatiable High by Masayoshi Takanaka for that warm 70s Japanese city pop/jazz fusion sound.
I love that dude and that album. When You Are Who You Are always makes me smile and mini dance. One could argue that The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is the precursor to conscious rap.
Have you heard I'm New Here?
Also, OP, check out Bobby Womack. Some of his stuff is pretty darn close to What's Going On with a dash of disco. Try out Home Is Where the Heart Is or some of his albums from that period
just beautiful
EW&F's entire discography from the 70's is pretty incredible
This one is a gem
...
It's been generally accepted that Scott-Heron was a precursor to rap as a whole. I haven't heard that album yet though. Been listening to sly and the family stone.
Everybody loves the sunshine, man.
Oh yeah, S&tFS is great as well. Colour Me True is def my fave of theirs.
Do yourself a favor and listen to Pieces of a Man. Imo his finest work no doubt, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is intense af. Which albums ahve you jeard of him?
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
maybe some Sly and the Family Stone too
This user Pieces of a Man is great but if you want more disco perhaps look into his later stuff eg. Bridges by him and Brian Jackson
