What to do when you take a stylistic jump, make a fun track, and it flops?
Good ones

It's inspired by early 2000's Yo La Tengo and Dusters Stratosphere. Otherwise I generally make noisy, lo-fi indie rock type stuff. Also, I'm in Berlin if anyone wants to have a beer or jam.
this is super well produced. you've also got some songwriting chops - good stuff structurally. i'd love to hear, what's the idea behind your project?
Good stuff. I feel like your missing out by not expanding your stereo image more. Still great though.
You sound a lot like Stephin Merritt in your lower range and I like that. Songwriting-wise, I dig GROW a lot though I think the drum voice/programming lets the track down, same with KILL A RAPIST. Are you building these in a computer? It just feels like they're too steeped not in radio but in iPod and in-workspace construction, which can work but I've always thought needed a human element (even if you're filtering it all to shit). I do want to reiterate that I like what you're doing.
Doesn't really do much for me but I get it, perfectly fine, just doesn't grip me.
Solid industrial efforts, but there's a little something missing. More works than pieces.
Charming bravado, though a bit skinny on the edges.

Serviceable.
Shockingly coherent. What's your background?
>is art for the artist or the recipient >is a bad idea the same thing as a bad magic >if i have hunger from where does it come and what does it feed up to you, kid

>puts music through layers of irony to not expose your feelings because you're scared of getting hurt i get it buddy, but this is nice and good. just take yourself a bit seriously so we can too.

>I feel like your missing out by not expanding your stereo image more. I agree, hopefully I'll fix that along the way, I'll have to consult that with some people that have more experience than me. Listened to your last track, it's pretty good, love those subtle touches with the vibraphone. Would be good if you expanded on the idea in the future. Thanks, I'm still working on my style, it takes time. Anyway, your older stuff has a NIN/Soundgarden edge to it, and same goes for the last thing you put out on bandcamp, but more perfected and well balanced. Neon Lovely Julia is pretty enjoyable, and most of the album for that matter, but I feel like a more polished mix would do the songs more justice, because this is pretty good, and it's supposed to sound dirty, but sometimes a lot of things clash in the mix and kinda kill the enjoyment. Have you ever thought about making this like a band rather than just a solo project, or you can't find the people to do it?

Pageant in particular is kinda an album which addresses a situation where a few college friends of mine died while (and not before) I was having a nervous breakdown, so yes, I regularly feel like I should fix the mixes, but I also feel that an absolute mastering/mix would betray the sensation of the presentation an intentional overload.

Sorry about your friends, that must be fucked up. In that case, leave it as is it, don't touch it.

Remains is really nice, like the old radio output feel it has Production is nice, is this a remix or original vocals though? REC Composition is pretty solid, wish this was turned into full fledged songs outside of using purely vocal samples REC from previous threads

Thank you for the feedback! Yeah it's all computer programmed. Any tips on how to give it more of a human element?
finally a new one from The DVD Gnome youtube.com/watch?v=lc5h9gvbeUs >dance to it, it's upbeat >Vocals by Ludacris! (America's *only* funny rapper) >Vocals by Trina! (remembered by *many*) >dreamcast graphics so you have something to look at
a few thoughts: i think it came out great! i would watch the whole series of this cartoon about friendly nautical explorers. Sure, they can be tough when they have to, like during one of their many run-ins with the pirates, but whenever they come across a new island they end up making a new friend :) nice. i think this is what batman beyond's granddaughter listens to and batman beyond doesnt "get" it but that's cause he is just getting too old for this shit
>oops looks like it will take about half an hour to upload, so if the new one isn't working, you can listen to this older one instead: youtube.com/watch?v=CA1I473AfmA >i think ludacris is also in this one
For some reason immediately reminded me of that game Blinx, on the original Xbox. Weird game, time travelling cats and blobs and vacuuming
I've never listened to dungeon synth before, seen it mentioned on these boards a few times. So for a first impression, this is a really strange sound, sort of Autechre / Arca classical leaning synthesizer with a bunch of reverb and layers of noise and effects. Diabolations makes me feel like I'm in a digital cathedral
Interesting sound? Not sure what to say, it's 10 seconds of a simple drum pattern
Love this stuff
I agree with the last person about expanding the stereo image, for a "wall of sound" this feels like it's only coming out of 1/4 of the speaker. As for the song itself though, I like the very coherent production, the transition around the 4 minute mark to that gnarly guitar solo is awesome. Your vocals could use a little fine tuning - the harmonies sound a little messy around the 6 minute mark
Dont know what the hell this is, but its fucking weird and badass.
Chase Reyes
Is this you rapping? I hear real potential. You sound like a LOT of rappers stuffed together (i don't mean by the sound of your voice, but by your flow and subject matter). What rappers are you influenced the most by? I can send you beats if you want, i wouldn't mind you rapping on my shit.
Caleb Cooper
So, i'll post in this thread for the first time.
>I make rap beats by sampling >Biggest influences: Alchemist, Just Blaze, J Dilla, Madlib, Pete Rock, J-Zone
rec Um, I appreciate the artistic statement your making, and I'll leave it at that

if a noise ambient album was played in DnD world
really good stuff. It's like every track surprised me in a different lofi direction
this is ambient that gets under you skin. You gotta make more stuff, man
Good stuff, it's like your riding the line between an FSA atmosphere and folk-rock instrumentals. I would definitely develop one side or the other, add vocals or enrich you atmosphere

I'm this guy , thank you very much and it's actually a recording of toy piano (with a bunch of effects), layered a few times, pitch shifted and EQ'd and crossfaded
I'm listening to your stuff right now while playing Happy Wheels. So far I'm really enjoying "Trash". How do you find / choose your samples?
Thank you, just listened to your track and it's crazy, there's so many patterns. The zip tie tightening sound around 5:30 is my favorite. Was this improvised? It has that sort of spontaneous quality
Jaxson Stewart
The idea came while drunk during a conversation with a friend, talking bout weird fetishes and how gay porn acting is awful as hell. I thought itd be hilarious to throw it in a noise track, turns out it just is creepy.

New things
>kind of chillout with 90's hiphop and current lo-fi influence.
If anyone is interested we're trying to build up a new music forum here: muziq.boards.net
The creator had a thread up earlier today if anyone saw it, but it's still quite small and we're trying to find enough members to form a sustainable base for discussion. So if you want an alternative place for talking about music come check it out, or there's also a dedicated board for sharing your own music if your interested in doing that.

Vocals are too quiet. Had to add volume after the intro to hear em.

brand new track posted 5 mins ago!! alternative rap, flows.. the 3rd track (of 3) off of my "loveberry" EP
thanks for listening! I like do think our band's output is split between indie rock songs we write and plan to perform live (though not many on this next album) and these experimental jams we do, which yea, are usually completely unstructured and improvised which I later cut down in post. We didn't have a drum machine backing this song, so I added a lot of patterns like the train whistle samples in beginning and droning paulstretch at end. I think the "zip tie" sound your hearing is my friend messing with his arp odyssey synth, his playfulness with it is the center of the track
This is real fucking nice my man, very smooth, very well instrumented You've got a good mic presence which is a big up. >ttrreeyy.bandcamp.com My friend in highschool and I used to get blazed and make synth patches and they always just ended up sounding like god damn motorcycles. This reminds me of that. Make some skrilla killa, score some video games This is a groove How many of the patches that you used had some sort of ice imagery in them? And I know you want me to use the word aesthetic but I'm not going too. Honestly pretty good though. Way more enjoyable than I expected
very reminiscent of early lil peep, sounds p good all vaporwave is shit yet not at the same time kek i fucking dig this, it reminds me a bit of the instrumentals you get from earrape rappers
Eli Rivera
What's up guys, I leave you with a music video of my project: LD MAC. I hope you like it, I am the producer in case you have any questions. Greetings. (I'm new here, lol)
If anyone needs cheap mixing/mastering (I'll do it for like $5 per song), please hit me up. In dire need of cash and would be keen to work with some people here.
>alt rock/indie rock ?shugazi/dream papi >post punk >FFO: The Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, Ride, Built To Spill, SDRE, Dinosaur Jr
this is our album from last summer (2016). We also released an EP this summer titled Nature Trash if you wanna check that out. Those songs follow more of a post punk/dream pop vibe. We have a new album coming out soon, maybe in 2 or 3 months at the latest. Song quality and production quality is better than ever so keep an eye out.
OH! and we are also on Spotify and Apple Music and all other major platforms like that. So if you're into that sort of stuff, enjoy! It's exciting for us at least
is it that easy to find scoring video games?that would be such a fun way to make money. i enjoyed your track a lot too. listened to it twice. kind of reminiscent of parquet courts to me, especially towards the end. but more melodic and fun than them imo
