Great picture for multiple reasons:
It only uses /proper albums/ by Autechre which have received physical releases (which, despite the band's regrettable turn away from such, shall never cease to be the gold standard for the professional release and dissemination of recorded music). Despite lots of great material having been released on EPs, the simple refusal to not use EPs to make the schematic point shows that the compiler understands Autechre's catalogue, where EPs may very easily be confused with full-lengths. Even Incunabula is supposed not to count in the strict sense as a "proper album", in the sense that it's a compilation of various bits which had already been recorded. The rest are presumed along modern album lines: "We're going to record a new album of music which should run an hour or so, so we need to compose and record several selections which will about fill that time."
Rather than "ranking" the albums in terms of quality, the picture instead playfully suggests that the whole is cohesive and can correspond to multiple moods, seasons. This is a helpful (that is, appropriate) way to look at Autechre's work overall. Every album has standouts, decents, and there's the very odd crap track, but overall it's really very consistent in terms of quality. With Autechre's main body of work, which is so perfectly illustrated in the OP's schema, it should be difficult for the true fan to pick a favorite album - partly from fandom, but also partly from the consistency of the work. So a different organizational schema apart from quality is called for, which the OP adroitly applies in this case (the wintery iciness of Confield, for example).
Still, the used items do excellently, to remove from discussion both LP5 and Oversteps, which despite the former in particular being beloved by most Autechre fans on Sup Forums, is in fact Autechre's weakest full-length.
Now on the OTHER HAND, within a given album (as with all albums), quality goes up and down from track-to-track, as I'd just suggested. But to compare two Autechre albums, generally, you'll find about the same quality level: 2-4 ace tracks, with the rest being middling tracks along the same lines. Possibly one pretty meh-track, but nothing ever really /horrible/ or /stupid/.
What I mean to say is this: inter-album comparisons of Autechre's quality are roughly flat. Intra-album comparisons, within a given album, of track-by-track, go up and down in normal ways (but them I'm biased to say that they're well-above average overall as Autechre is my favorite group). Even LP5 and Oversteps are a pleasure to listen to even if they're admittedly among mye least favorite full-lengths: like pizza, when Autechre are good, they're really, really fucking good. And even when they're bad... they're still kinda good.
Apart from this formal monologuing, please to enjoy a great early (non-album) track:
fuck you, I wanted to go to bed
I'd replace winter-night with Strawberry Jam, but that's just me personally. Good job tho.
Do you have to use only one artist for the whole chart? I'd be much more interested to see charts like this with multiple artists.
But if people are still doing single-artist charts, I"d love to see one for Zappa.
Oversteps instead of Quaristice, LP5 instead of Draft, Anti EP instead of Confield
Best one ITT.
