So if I'm not from the US, I'm fucked?
Man, I'll try to get to the US first and then follow your guide I guess

lol benefits for life after 4 years? what navy are you talking about?

You have until 32 to join. Join now, man. Navy is easy as fuck. you honestly don't even have to be in shape.

it kind of sounds like you want to turn the stock market into a bank. careful... doesnt really work like that

Go to the fidelity website.
watch all the videos and read all the info. you can start on your own with just 500 dollars. You won't gain much, but you'll get more than it just sitting in your saving.

Since you're taxed at 80% ...

Trade jobs are very underappreciated in today's world. Nobody wants to do them because we are all told that we not only should go to college, but we deserve to and are entitled to, and it is the only way to succeed; this is nonsense. Becoming a master electrician or welder or something is far easier, cheaper, and faster than getting a degree, and pays quite well.

after 4 years you're eligible to get free schooling, payed WHILE you go to school (I got 1.8k a month while i went to school).
Loan assistance, budget assistance, medical, List goes on, man.

What if I don't want to die in war?

Or learn a trade, you lazy fuck

Are you even in the navy bro? It’s nothing like this. You really think you’re gonna have time to do all that when you’re pulling 14+ hour days on the reg?

source: in the navy, it’s fucking bullshit

Navy or air force. Both are easy mode, partially depending upon the job you pick. If navy, don't be a corpsman because you will be stuck with marines (I was a marine, it fucking sucks). Trade jobs are also a good option for you.

medical is after a full 20 im pretty sure. Youre right about the GI bill though

I nearly finished a masters degree with my GI bill

2nded. This sounds like its coming from someone who has no idea what they are talking about.
Current active duty navy reporting in

Unless you go into a special operations rate, you wont die in a war. Our boats are safe as fuck. Not because it can't blow up, but because if you attack one, it's an act of war.

OP is right, anons. Spend a few minutes of your time wisely, and watch this inspiring recruitment video.

youtube.com/watch?v=nmGuy0jievs

No navy where you live? How about air force? Trade school also great option.

Navy/air force die in war? hah, thats a good one. Unless you are a seal you have about as much chance of dying as you do of being struck by lightning.

Can I join if I've been to the psych ward for suicide and to detox cos I was an iv junkie now I'm on methadone. I know I gotta wait till I'm off methadone with Adderall I know it's 1 year off the medicine.

Also on my mental health record I have narcissistic personality disorder and antisocial personality disorder.

If not can I get government bucks for my disorders lmao

Although you do have long work days the op is still technically correct. He has not suggested that these things will simply fall into your lap if you join. I did not do any college when I was in, myself, but that is my own fault. I knew others who did, and it was pure laziness that caused me to play video games instead.

Haha I wish you were wrong cos I'd still have my favorite cousin who wasn't allowed to join any branches that were too dangerous by the family but the song of a bitch still ended up finding a way to die in the navy. He was a very brave man and I wish I would have fought beside him and even died with him cos he died alone and it hurts me a lot.

Was navy too. 4 years. Small boy.
holy shit you're complaining about 14 hour days?
What, do you sleep 10 hours a day? 14 hour days aren't even year round, in port. If you have 14 hour days it's for one of the following reason:
Your division is a piece of shit,
your leadership is shit
you have an inspection coming up
you're building up for deployment,
yore coming down from deployment
you are a piece of shit

cool story of you jerking yourself off. you have anything worth adding to this topic or just wanna keep celebrating how you worked fewer than 14 hours? What exactly was the point of your little tirade?

Dam man. Truly sorry to hear that. Nothing is ever 100%.

You're just angry because I'm right. I hate when people in the military say they work soooooo long. the only ones that have a right to complain are engineers. they have shittiest hours and THEY don't even work 14 hour days year round. And even if it was year round it's your shitty state of mind thats holding you back. When you realize that, the navy wont be so bad. Til then, I feel sorry for you. You have a great opportunity, but your lazy, stupid ass is wasting it away.

again, do you have anything to add to the topic of life long benefits after only serving 4 years? Because thats what we are talking about.
And I have said nothing about my own view on the navy work day. Ive hardly ever had 14 hour days. And you shouldnt feel sorry for me, I have probably the best job in the navy. calm down you over dramatic fuck. You sound like the dude everyone lets a breath out when he leaves the room

gay

Dam, your stupidity is annoying the shit out of me. You should take a look at your self and read what you wrote, man. You talk about adding to the topic but I was just replying to the people crying about working so many hours in a day. yet, here you are.

Probably not. Only choice is talk to a recruiter.

Ok listen up since I apparently have to spell this out barney style for you.
There was clearly confusion about what was being questioned, I repeated the topic I was referring too AND admitted that you were right about the other poster referring to a 14 hour day. What was your response? "u so annoying! we is talking about work hours!"

Figure it out man. Now I ask again: Do you have anything to add? We have already established the GI Bill, but thats about it as far as a life long benefit goes

I moved over almost my entire bank account into an investing account. I had about $6200 as of Sep. 29, which is now about $6500. Just look up index funds. Those are the safest, just sit and wait it out.
I would suggest firms like Charles Schwab or Vanguard. Not very experienced, but what little experience I have has been good.

Looking back I should have gotten a waiver, but I don't really want to sell my soul to the government

78!? Jesus!
I almost joined the army. Got a 97, and my recruitment officer opened the envelope, saw the score, closed the envelope and said "Well. What do you wanna do?" And I didn't understand. So he explained that with a 97 I could do literally any job. I chose electronic warfare specialist and then decided not to go and ditched MEPS. I do not regret my decision.

you can be a foreigner and join the us navy. it's not hard, you just gotta jump through some hoops.

Same happened to me. Got 91, but got fucked because I'm colorblind.

Not USA resident. What's so special about Navy?

Meh. With the Iraq war revving up, we probably dodged a bullet.

This. Everybody chases desk jobs but if you're not afraid of working with your hands any sort of trade skill is a much better opportunity.

I was specifically responding to the 14 hour work day comments. Then you came at me with "adding shit to the topic" when i wasn't even talking about THAT topic. The benefits are just a google away. If you're in the Navy, you'll find out at TAPS, or whatever the fuck they call it now.

I personally liked it because the Navy was easy as shit, overall. Plus, 90% of bases are on the water for obvious reasons and ocean side cities are always more fun.
Added bonus were deployments where for 10 months got hazard pay and saved a shit ton of money while visiting different countries as opposed to chilling in a sand shit hot country

So the answer is No. Thanks for playing

Index founds my man, Index founds.

Best advice I've seen here tbh

Haven't quite figured out how to google, huh.
Dam, life is going to be rough for you...

yeah

Still havnt figured out you are not coming off as intelligent?

Here's my plan

>Army Reserves, infantry
>Use benefits to go through college
>Incur debt like any other college student
>Graduate, get a bachelor's degree
>Stay enlisted in the Army, not officer
>Wait until my contract is up
>Re-enlist with an active duty contract
>Deploy as soon as possible
>Put 80% of all income towards paying off student loan debt as quickly as possible
>15% goes into a savings account, 5% is spending money
>Keep deploying until I physically cannot handle it anymore or until I die
>Change my MOS to become something like a truck driver or something equally easy on a physically battered body
>Put in my 20 years
>Get out, full retirement benefits
>Get a job with the CIA or some other government agency
>Put in my 20 years there
>Retire with 2 full paychecks and benefits
>I'll still retire around 10 years before anybody else of my age group

Thoughts? I enlisted when I was 17, so I can in theory retire as early as 57

>gaming
>laptop
Choose one

Buy IOTA

lol so youre going to live on 5% spending money?
terribly unrealistic plan.

ohnononono

its not all paid for. they give you BAH but you have to live on base and if BAH doesnt cover the cost of rent, then it comes out of your pocket. And the food stipend is only like $200 a month. Want to eat more than that? comes out of your pocket. And any form of entertainment costs money. Tv, internet, electric, all costs money. Put 30% towards paying off student loans and 10% towards savings. whatever is left that rent and other bills dont eat up use as spending money. If you really want to be smart youll also set aside a small amount each paycheck for an "oh fuck fund." car accident, the occasional random thing that costs $100 to fix etc.

If I'm deployed to a combat zone I have to pay rent? Seriously?

nah on deployments you'll make bank. thats different. but once youre out there and you get some time off, your not thinking "man i am saving so much money, I better not spend anything." usually the thought goes a little more like " HOLY SHIT I HAVE SO MUCH MONEY LETS DRINK AND EAT!"

See, that's the plan. Just deploy constantly. Sure, it'll be hard to have a family life like that, but I'm alone anyways.

I consider myself to be fairly smart with my finances. I think I've got about $16k saved up so far, rarely do I dip into it for spending money. Maybe I'll get irrationally impulsive after a deployment or two but I guess we'll have to see

ayyy

you'll see what i mean man. Life is way more complicated than it seems like in highschool. shit happens you cant plan for and just gotta roll with it. my biggest piece of advice is always be ready to get fucked over. This is best mitigated by havin a sizeable "of fuck fund." If you can live off this fund for about 3 months, its big enough.

>be a fat fuck 19yo M (350 lbs 6'1")
>tried to lose weight at least 5 different times a year
>inevitably fail every god damn time
>all but lost hope
How do i get out of this shit. I try thinking about the pong term but in the end i always cave into the cravings
What do? Has anyone here ever lost 100+ pounds? Im running out of faith

Can I join a reserves or national guard and still work? I have a bachelors degree

Yes

>Source: Am in the national guard

Bonus points: No civilian employer can fire you for missing work due to going to drill weekends. That is a law that affects all 50 states. If your employer does that or tries to do that, the National Guard will represent you in court at no cost to you.

I actually forgot to mention this: If you have a degree and enlist, you'll immediately be an E4 Specialist, you'll never be a private. You'll also have an easier time making E5 Sergeant with a degree, too.

Get a few tech certs. 500$ a piece and they’ll se you up for a 45k$ a year job which you can use to pay for school and more certs. Like venture capitalism but with school and technology instead. Plus IT is easy as fuck, 80% of all support tickets are people not knowing how to configure printers or not knowing how to turn a computer on.

stop drinking sugar drinks and soda/pop its that easy america

Litteraly almost never drink soda maybe once every 6 months. Try again

>

I had a very similar situation. Drink a gallon of water a day. After 10 days this will cause a significant reduction in water retention.
2nd figure out your BMR. lots of websites will do this, but there are a few different equations used. google it and use the top 3 results, use the lowest figure. Start counting calories. Consume less than your BMR. A deficit of 3500 calories = 1 lb of fat lost.
In the beginning it will happen fast because youre BMR will be huge. as you lose weight this number goes down so the overall process takes longer. rinse and repeat until you are satisfied with your weight.
Pro tip: steam vegetables. can eat as much of that as you need to get rid of hunger.
2 lbs a week is bout average. if you wanna lose 50 lbs its gonna take 6 months. Be aware of this. its a marathon, not a sprint.

I want to make one ammendment to this. That gallon of water will reduce weight IF your salt intake is low. cut out salty food.

Ive tried a method like this before minus the gallon of water and salt cutout sofar its been the most successful i like being able to record my progress and calorie intake and im aware that eating "calorie free" junk food doesent work with this. I think ill try and start this back up again.. yeah. Thanks for the advice Sup Forumsro

What branch do I join if I was going to kms anyways? (19 here)

Isis

what about the national guard? thats what i've been thinking about the last couple months

Why would I want to be around dirty dune coons?

I'm currently 19. I'll graduate with a law degree when I'm 20. (I'm doing a fast track 2 yr law degree). My current struggle is getting a first class. I think about it all the time. I'm also obese but I fantasize going out with a gorgeous blond. I feel lost in life. I don't know what I'm doing and what to do. I have big goals but I fear failure. Nor do I belive I'm smart enough to reach them. I work like a dog in my study 24/7. I'm working towards going to Oxford or Cambridge to do my masters.

Anyou advise B?

>Do some exercise
I know is more easy say it than do it, but i play soccer with my friends 4 times per week, we are fucking bad at it but we have fun and meet new people. It's not like a GYM but it's a fun way to do something

>Do not eat too much
You don't have to eat until you explode, you have to know when you are satisfied

>Make your own food
I love burgers, but McDonalds is trash, i make my own burgers, it's easy and you can put meat without so much fat, do this with your favorite food, avoid shit condiments like mayo, eat sweet things once a week for combat the anxiety, when you eat shitty food, do it in the morning not at night.

I don't know how much weight i lose, but now im not that fat, and this routine is sustainable for me, try it user

Okay so I did some research on the air national guard because they have a big base where I live. So even if I have a technical background they can't make me work a full time job for them and I can keep my day job? Does the time off rule apply for going to basic? What are your feelings on the 8 year obligation?

Bump
