Trump said that either Bernie's campaign or a network would have to front the money. Only outside CEOs and companies did (who would then be able to decide many of the the factors and questions asked). That does not meet the criteria for the deal he proposed.
Pretty sure Trump realized he had way more to lose than he could ever possible gain from that debate.
