i like the desert music by steve reich

i prefer his analysis videos

> post 1 (One) composer who's still alive and post your favorite piece by them
Nothing about this implied it had to be from the classical era or style.

link me up some

they're on the same channel

youtube.com/user/temporalfissure/videos

"/classical/" pretty much clearly expressed it. And the "still alive" pretty much cleared that it meant contemporary era

Classical in this case is just being used as a catch-all term because it's what most people know it as

I like short ride in a fast machine that ones by john Adams. Probably my favorite for wind ensemble of all time. I'm assuming it falls under classical although your post is confusing since classical is typically defined as like Bach stuff, and if you just mean all orchestra stuff it can get confusing what counts as classical. But harmonically I guess this piece comes from western classical tradition

He means western art music. Stop pretending you don't know what he means.

I'm not trying to be pretentious but since the one I picked is for wind ensemble it is debatable I was preemptively defending myself

John Adams is an art music composer. It was a good pick.

what would happen if steve reich and steve roach collaborated

All good non jazz/vidya music in the 20th century was made in the USSR. Prove me wrong.

Any good antifascist /classical/ we can use to smash racism?

>vidya

I would rather listen to Koji Kondo than shitty dadrock, thanks

he is dadrock

huh

worsst classical thread ever

youtube.com/watch?v=rR8sfINxVe4

>muh Shostakovich

There's tons of good American and European composers of the 20th century and the USSR stopped having good composers (except Part) after Shostakovich died.

user better have meant prokofiev

more like this guy

not soviet

>not even the best composer of the 20th century
lmfao

Who is the best composer of the 20th century? It has to be between Mahler, Debussy, Strauss, Schoenberg, Bartok, Stravinsky, and Messiaen, but which one?

Wind ensemble is considered classical but no one talks about it here because 85-90% of its music isn't worth talking about

Of those i prefer mahler and bartok

I guess you could add a few others like Ravel, Webern and Berg, but that's about it

ravel goat

but prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune is by debussy

Penderecki is bretty good

but string quartet in f is by ravel

Not him but

I recently discovered Liszt and I have to say that I've really been missing out

youtube.com/watch?v=tYKl41e_hoU

Are there other composers who master this dark style?

Lemonade > The Rite Of Spring

How have you not heard Liszt's Liebestraum no. 3, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 or Un sospiro? He's also known for being GOAT piano virtuoso

>That really good composer from your hometown that there are no recordings online of whatsoever
What's her name, Sup Forums?

I know Liszt mainly for being a piano virtuoso. And yeah I checked those out. You should check out his piano translation for Danse Macarbe too. Very dark too.

Looking for music of the Victorian era to the early 20th century. Also, can anyone recommend the best performances of some Wagner?

Literally noone. My town is US and actually younger than I am.
Here's the best online recording of Lohengrin desu.

youtube.com/watch?v=VN83SBGSAWg

So your town is US? Cool, my city is England!

petzold

is the "its never too late to begin learning an instrument:)" meme true?

Yes, you may never be good, but it is never too late to learn. Think of it like cooking; you may never be a Master chef, but you can learn recipes and improve your whole life.

So if I didn't start playing trombone at age 2 I'll never be good?

If you're old enough to speak a language it's too late for you to git gud

I can speak 3
:'(

I learned in piano the minuet of petzold, can I join your club now?

Is the relation of the human ear and the tones the exact same as the relation of the human eye and the colours? Think about it. Only reason we're better at recognizing colours is because we were forced to learn them when we were young.

>tfw retarded
what piece was this again?

that guy's a retard, you can become a guitar or bass or whatever god in a few years if you practice for hours

The first movement of Mozart's 40th symphony.

Thanks for believing in me user
(If there's a famous trombone player in a few years whose name's Brekke, I'll shout you out

Further proof that Schoenberg is underrated

youtube.com/watch?v=8HON4AswPVk

why do so many problematic operas continue to get staged? Why is Western Art Music so racist?

Yes.
Everyone knows by now that at Haydn's time he used to play in noisy environments.
Classical performers, especially the big names, I think, are just self-important assholes.

why are there no big name Indian classical musicians who are non-Indian? Why is it so racist

But literally no one is composing what can be considered classical except people playing old songs. The only original music is either too modernist for classical or just pop music derivative of soundtracks.

Mozart - turk march

Bach wasnt classical at all.

same but tabula rasa
