Your daily reminder that delegate participation has been dropping every presidential year. Notice how many delegates there are in 2016 compared to 2012, 2008, 2004 and 2000.
Also understand that unlike Republican and Democratic primaries, Libertarians across the country do not have a vote to influence the delegates. Only in two to three states do people actually vote for the presidential nominee. It's all based on delegates who are selected by each state party committee.
It could be said the Libertarian Party is less democratic than either the Republican or Democratic party, but that would be missing the bigger picture. A more simple answer is that the Libertarian Party doesn't attract the most brightest bunch. It is true that Libertarians tend to be the most intelligent, more logical people, but they fail in emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationships. They don't know how to work together. Further, I doubt the Libertarian Party consists of even a quarter of the Ayn Rand ideal: an attractive, intelligent, charming individual who is a capitalist, a producer who brings wealth to others as much as to themselves. I wouldn't be surprise if the Libertarian Party mainly consist of lower middle class people. The wealthiest and most successful of Libertarians tend to be part of the Libertarian intelligentsia (e.g., Tom Woods).
