Is modern GBV anywhere as good as 90s-00s GBV?

ariel pink's worn copy/lover boy/house arrest is better than all of gbv lo-fi stuff. all of ariel's recent album are better than any of gbv hi-fi stuff.
bob really isn't a talent or a genius at all if he has 3000 songs under his belt and most of his albums are given mediocre reviews. he either has shit taste in choosing what songs to use from his catalog or he's a hack. ariel has like 700 songs, and only about 15% of what he has put on his albums is what i consider bad or annoying.
>he either has shit taste in choosing what songs to use from his catalog or he's a hack
That's his approach. He does it on purpose. It's a giant collage.
I never understood people that think that's a mark against him anyhow. So what if he releases every tiny idea that crosses his mind.... there's still hundreds of great songs in there, more than any one else has released. Hell, any other songwriter would totally crap out and have nothing left to give whereas Bob can always produce material.
i love bob and ariel
my bob playlist (songs i like by him) is literally 708 songs. all the others i dont "hate" just not worthy of my playlist
my ariel playlist is around 100
bob is the greatest songwriter of all time. no one else so effortlessly puts out at least 10 great songs a year for over 30 fucking years now
if you dont hear the genius in a song like this, i cant help you
>most of his albums are given medicore reviews
who is ariel pink pre before today for $1000
ariel pink makes commerical jingle tier shit
robert pollard writes anthems
I haven't listened to much GBV but some of my favorites are Jar of Cardinals and Time Machines (Different Version)
It saddens me that GBV/Pollard have like 3 god-tier releases and then god knows how many 5/10'ss
Every time I feel like listening to them I get through Bee Thousand then just get overwhelmed when trying to decide where to go next
This Pollard song from last year sounds like a classic song from the early 2000s hifi era
you need to download his discography, which is 3 full days worth of music.
take 2 months to go through it, hell just throw on in background
i guarantee youll come out of it wirh literally HUNDREDS of new songs you love, you have to commit to it though.
That's the thing, I know he's done a lot of good stuff but I'm overwhelmed by having that much to go through. I honestly only listen to like an hour of music a day, I can't commit that hard to go through his discography.
litetally every GBV album from propeller to half smiles is worth listening to in full
Fair enough, at the very least it's definitely on my bucket list to go through all of it a couple of times
what are you listening to instead?
take the pollardpill bro
>album: Under the bushes under the stars
>streak: B1000 - Under the bushes under the stars
>is modern GBV as good as 90s? Absolutely not
this modern GBV song is bee thousand worthy
Can we all agree #2 in model home series is their magnum opus?
a true classic

Alien Lanes > Bee Thousand

Yes but b1000 had the better songs it's a worse album
Currently listening to Eintsurzende Neubauten and Ty Segall, if that changes anything
Downloading "Back to Saturn X" right now, is it any good?
You need to just jump in man. GBV is an entire universe and being a fan means exploring it. No matter where you go, you'll always be turning up gems. They're everywhere.
If none of you have heard Devil Between my Toes you need to get the fuck out of here. It's their second best album.
Isn't that the album immediately following the band's first and worst release which they themselves hated?
Ehhh nah.
Their first four albums are all of a set in my mind. They all have that same gray mid-fi sound, more or less. But out of those, I like Sandbox the best. Same Place the Fly Got Smashed is too much of a dirge for me, but it does have Bob's own favorite song of his PENDULUM
nobody?
are there any good albums besides alien lanes and bee thousand?
under the bushes under the stars really bored me
