What are the most genuinely great Christian artists...

What are the most genuinely great Christian artists? Id prefer artists who have actually made songs about Christian subjects, not just artists who happen to be Christian.

Jars of Clay's self-titled debut is GOAT.

here's one of my favorite songs from it:

>Mass in B minor
A fine piece, but look beyond the meme and embrace the St. Matthew Passion.

who says you can't enjoy both?

I LOVE YOU JESUS CHRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIST

JEESUS CHRIST I LOVE YOU YES I DO

Certainly not me. I only ever see the fugues and mass in b minor posted, however.

John tavener makes some of the most transcendental music out there!

fleet foxes

Andy Hull (his band is Manchester Orchestra, but most of his religious-themed stuff is under his name or Right Away, Great Captain!)

Are you okay with spiritual jazz, in that case listen to some Coltrane?

Daniel Johnston

Neal Morse
Sufjan Stevens

The only Christian artists worth anything are classical composers--the rest should be drawn and quartered.

why are you so fucking annoying?

Anything this guy did with 16HP/Wovenhand. Music so good even Mortuus from Marduk, one of the most blasphemous and anti-christian black metal bands, admits to loving them (Marduk even covered one of their songs)

Bob Dyldan

Burzum

fire

Bach = GOAT

Albini is an atheist.

Correct. It's not pretentious to say that no musician in 20th century comes close.

>The Trees Community - The Christ Tree

Kanye West

What the fuck I thought this was just a meme, its actually pretty good

Posting best track.

Either MOST composers, or Otherwise, 95% of Christian Artists are shit.
Brand New sings a lot about God and Christianity, and it might be that Jesse Lacey himself is Christian, but he's usually very critical of the religion.

Check out these songs and lemme know what you think

Right? I thought that it was going to be abject shit based on the cover. Turns out it's a REALLY good indie rock album. I think it's satyrical.

Brian Wilson mentions god enough that it's safe to say he's a comfortable American protestant.

youtube.com/watch?v=y7u_ZkA7GUY

>I think it's satyrical.
Are you referring to cover or the music?

The cover. It looks like a Memphis rap album

It's just following the proud Texan tradition. Nothing satirical about it.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pen_&_Pixel

literally all their songs are directly or indirectly about faith, or addressing other issues through the prism of faith

sufjan is all you need

>wah!

...

Olivier Messiaen

Why black people dont sing to God anymore?
Are they the epitome of Nu male of black people?
Is this the obviously correlation with talent and christianity?

He is gay, tho.

"40" my man.

>implying

>Guy Penrod of the Gaither Vocal Band
seriously, he has an amazing voice, is a baptist & genuinely appears to be a really nice guy

for real though

Bach, Handel, Mozart

My nigga sufjan and most European classical composers, as well as 60's america black jazz musicians

Never listened to them, but some of Stryper's albums (especially live) are approaching 3.6-3.7 on RYM

Current 93

>60's america black jazz musicians
didn't they worship Ra or Satan
you mistake them for gospel stars?

Starflyer 59. He has an amazing shoegaze album, "Gold". Highly recommend it.

Bob Dylan, kanye west, kendrick lamar, johnny, Sufjan Stevens, Megadeth

...

Blackhouse

A shame what happened to Ira.

Psalters is one my favorite bands ever and all they do is play reworked versions of hymns and Christian folk songs.

David Eugene Edwards is a beautiful man who makes fantastic music.

He quotes the bible a lot.

In How Much a Dollar Cost he talks about the book of Exodus and its meaning.

In Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst there is about 3 minutes of prayer.

In all of DAMN., he talks of the Israelites and tests of faith.

>the remaster features an even more obnoxious cover, complete with cross/star of David/crescent bling
Always makes me laugh

Neal Morse

st john passion > st matthew passion

no way, Who We Are Instead is their underrated best

although Good Monsters is a strong contender

"Oh My God" + "Mirrors & Smoke" + "Water Under the Bridge" make that album 5/5
praise His Holy Name
They weren't christians. They were up to their rectum in drugs and that's part of a hallucination

The real answer is pic related, or....

...this
