Lyricist Rappers?

Anyone know of any good rappers that have decent lyrics? I'm running low on options...

Flatbush zombies

Never heard of them, I'll check them out ;)

mf doom

Milo
Earl Sweatshirt
A Tribe Called Quests

the underachievers

Going to need some examples of what you consider decent lyricism. Flatbush are great but they are a relatively low bar.

Joanna Newsom

I just want something that I can understand and isn't all about fucking whores and smoking weed.

Mac miller, Joey BadA$$, Pusha T, Kendrick, any A$ap, and NF.

They're raw, and now they're on my playlist. Thanks for the recommendation.

Flatbush zombies fucking suck. Erick is the only good member

Just going to list off a bunch of names here.

Mos Def, Black Thought, Nas, Tupac, Biggie, Jay Z, Andre 3k, Big Boi, Pusha T, GZA, Ghostface Killah, Big Pun, Ice Cube, Del the Funky Homosapien, Guru, A Tribe Called Quest, Common, MF DOOM. A bunch of "old school" MC's with lots of stuff to say, interesting ways to say it, and were generally innovative at the time they were making music. The production might hold you back from enjoying it but all of these guys have made great albums and are great lyricists. If you need any specific album rec's you can ask.

For more modern rappers, we've got Vince Staples, Earl Sweatshirt, Ka, Lupe Fiasco, Kendrick, ScHoolboy Q, JID, Big KRIT, Tee Grizzly, Freddie Gibbs, Kemba, clipping, Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, and Maxo Kream. Some of these guys are on totally opposite ends of the spectrum (Ka and Maxo) but all of them constantly write strong bars.

Appreciate it user, I'll check em' out!

Glad to hear it. I know it's a very sizable list so if you need to know which albums or songs to check out first I'd be happy to recommend some stuff.

I looked forward to looking at the next artist every time, you have great taste man, appreciate you sharing. My playlist just gained 20+ songs, Thanks again.

If nothing, at least a little bit less normie than some of the guys i see posted in threads like this and this thread.

Ahead of his time by almost a decade, he's not the most lyrical, his 2008-2011 run is still one of the greatest displays of diversity of styles, showing complete mastery of every aspect that had plagued mainstream hip hop in the previous decade, from the braggadocious post-bad boy records to the emotional introspection and battlerap punchlines reminiscent of a young eminem plastered over his own production which sounds like a mixture of madlib, 9th wonder, j dilla and kanye.

If you're wondering where to start I'd suggest starting with Crash Landed which is basically just a delusional statement to his arrival in the hip hop scene, if you really like freestyling and fringe music anything beyond 2011 is just that, freestyling and a slow descent into madness all told through music

And just to mention some other greats which have been forgotten by others, check out Slick Rick, Pharoahe Monch, Warren G, Masta Ace, Qwel, Rob Sonic and Bigg Jus as well

Why only em’s first album?
