Why are old people so stupid about modern music? I swear they can't actually listen to music, they just read articles that say music after the 90s is all bad and they believe it.
I was talking to this guy who kept going on about how new music is terrible because it has no dynamic range. He asked me to show him some modern songs and explain what they mean to me, because modern songs also don't have meaning. I showed him I Want to be Well by Sufjan, thinking he'd like it because of it's large dynamic range and non-love song lyrics (he said not to show any love songs).
He then went on about how the song was terrible because it stayed at the same volume throughout and it caused it to be dull and emotionless because the lack of dynamic range. He tried to explain to me what dynamic range meant as if I didn't know, then told me to check out the song "Hello" by Adele, one of the only modern songs he likes because it's meaningful and the dynamic range gives it emotion. I even loaded the songs into audacity to check the dynamic range in case my ears were broken, and sure enough, the Adele song had much less range than the Sufjan song.
I'm convinced this guy was serious. Do old classic rock dads even have the ability to listen to music or do they just regurgitate whatever they heard about modern music without a second thought?

Dynamic range is just something retards say to pretend they know about music. He has confirmed shit taste, so why do you care? I don't think age matters, this same conversation could be had with anyone else.
Jason Ramirez
I care because I have a really hard time backing out of things when I get curious.
I've seen this argument made almost exclusively by older people and 12-16 year olds who only listen to the music their dad showed them
Brody Collins
Some(most) people are just not interested in music. These old dudes just listened to whatever was popular at the time (dad rock music)
they are exactly the same as modern pop and indie heads who only listen to the radio or pitchfork BNM. Actively listening to new music and searching for it is not a hobby for 90% of the population. Even if >70% of people say they are into music
old dad rockers are just popheads of their old dying generation
Christopher Adams
Normie here, what is dynamic range and why does it matter?
Kevin Bailey
He must have been interested in music or else he wouldn't have spent a long time arguing his point about modern music
Samuel Cruz
It's the difference between the quiet and loud parts in songs
Ian Harris
Music is effective contrasts. If the bass is blaring at 150db incessantly, congratulations, you've made 150 the new 0 and now you have nowhere to go.
Jordan Wood
>150db that's sure realistic
Andrew Brown
Modernity ended 100 years ago. Modern music would be dadrock to you grandparents.
Bentley Wood
Trap and metal is for people of inferior intellect. Stop coddling them, you racist condescending kike.

Why does the OP go and browse Steve Hoffman Forum anyway?
Christian Parker
Yeh the old faggot who listens to REO Speedwagon on repeat just likes it because he lost his virginity to that music.
Grayson Taylor
this conversation was on youtube, you spooked me for a second though because I was just browsing that forum
Camden Peterson
