Why did it take 50+ years for rock music to be more than pop music?
I'm serious. Call me bait or not. Fuck off. I want an interesting thread about modern rock music.

*blocks your path*
Rock has gone through an interesting transition. It's lost a lot of it's pop sensibilities and themes. Sex, drugs, rock and roll...where did it all go?
I prefer the brooding angst and introspection that a lot of rock music nowadays brings to the table (a good example might be Brand New's new record), but I won't deny that rock has changed.
The death of the record label certainly helped

rock has never come close to achieving the heights of classical and the closest it DID come was in 1970
what album?
Marquee Moon
Dude, most of that album is a piss-take on the pop end of rock/rhythm & blues. It doesn't really stop being a pop album until Trouble Every Day.
No
Faust s/t
What about Who are the Brain Police?

>no
You're not a musician I assume
I am, you clearly are not if you think a punk album is the peak of rock
You can hardly get a better example than Zappa. Pierre Boulez conducted his works and his music continues to be performed by modern orchestras.
i don't even get the elitism of classical as a genre. some beethoven stuff would sound like indie rock if it was made with guitars
...
>some beethoven stuff would sound like indie rock if it was made with guitars
haha you are completely deluded
Oh Jesus it's you again
This,in my opinion,is still the best album in pop music of all time, call me a Scaruffidrone or whatever but I liked this shit way before I knew of that pedo and it's brilliant
>literally every remix of moonlight sonata ever is a sped up 4/4 trip hop shitshow
I barely even see genre anymore, I only see music in terms of basic shit that normalfags cling on to like a life preserver in a turbulent scary sea, and the handful of worthwhile people face down in that sea and happy about it
Listen to the full album faggot
Edgy comment but with a shard of truth
"I'm a nu-male"
yeah because when people remix it they turn it into something completely different retard
>where did it all go?
hiphop and digital hardcore. with a brief detour into edm before realizing it was shit.
EDM was shit because Big Room exploded and could not go anywhere. Big Room was so simple you couldnt move it anywhere
You shouldn't take Sup Forums that seriously.
The term you wanted to use is popular music.
Does anybody except Fagtano say that rock is dead? Where did that meme come from?
I used the term 'pop music',is that not the same?
It took a bunch of disillusioned Canadian hippies?
The GYBE song "Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls" uses the core progressions of moonlight sonata and that's a good song
i'm defending the fact that a lot of chord progressions from classical sound good as rock songs sped up. they were good ideas then, they're good ideas now. that's what music theory is all about
hahahah yeah it's so different, it only has the same exact notes.
This is amongmy favourites images
Canada has the best hippies
